The feature is part of automatic attack disruption, which means Microsoft Defender XDR correlates signals from endpoints, identities, email, cloud apps, and other sources before applying containment actions. For Windows administrators, the important point is that isolation blocks most network traffic while the device remains connected to the Microsoft Defender for Endpoint service for monitoring and response. Microsoft published the feature in its May 2026 Defender for Endpoint update, so treat it as prerelease functionality that can still change.
