All unpatched switches will be exploitable at the hardware level forever, but patched switches and users who want a software exploit require vulnerabilities only present on lower firmwares (lower than 8.0) as per this twitter thread.It is important to note that by staying on a firmware that is lower then the latest, you're locked out of online functionality, no way around it.Switches being produced/sold past July 2018 are no longer vulnerable to the BootROM exploit currently relied upon.
