I have been using this method for about a month now, since Sword and Shield came out. My SD card reader is ded, so all I could do was restore my NAND and accept that I'll probably won't be hacking my Switch any time soon. Still, when Pokémon came out, I decided to do some research if you could extract your save files from the NAND without Checkpoint/Edizon/CFW in general. And this is how I've been doing it. I haven't been banned since I started using it; I've hacked quite a few Pokémon for others and traded them away, in both link trades and wonder trades, so it seems like it's safe. Also, you shouldn't be afraid of bricking your Switch: in the worst-case scenario, you will corrupt your save by being and idiot and making some random changes to it, and because of that we will make a backup, don't worry.
