There were certain people the Prophet forgave but he then requested them to keep their distance. Forgiving people doesn't equal that you are cool with what they did to you, or that you have to be best friends, or that you have to put yourself through the same treatment and situation again and again. It just means that you no longer want to carry hatred, beef, grudges and any unnecessary baggage around with you for the rest of your life.
