The Rights of the Father upon his Son

Shaykh Ḥammād ibn Muḥammad al-Anṣārī رحمه الله mentioned a narration in which al-Layth ibn Sa'ad - D. 175H - رحمه الله said:

The father has ten rights over his son:

1. When he needs food, he feeds him.

2. When he needs clothing, he clothes him if he is able to and this is some of the explanations of Allāh's statement:

"Behave with them kindly in the world." • [31:15]

3. When one of his parents needs his service, he serves them.

4. When he calls him, he replies and attends to him.

5. When he commands him to do an affair, he obeys him as long as it is not an act of disobedience [to Allāh] or backbiting.

6. To speak with him with kind, soft, lenient speech.

7. To not address him by his name.

8. To walk behind him.

9. To love for him what he loves for himself and dislike for him what he dislikes upon himself.

10. To supplicants for mercy for him.

abode of trials and has never been completed for anyone."

There is nothing more beneficial for the slave in this present life, nor for His returning to his Lord, nor anything more conducive to his salvation than

contemplating over the Quran

[Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah), Madaarij as-Saalikeen, 1/451]

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

"Indeed, the one who does not have the Qur'an inside him (his heart), is like the ruined house."

(at tirmidhi, 2913)
Narrated Abu Hurairah:
that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

"The one who memorized the Qur'an shall come on the Day of Judgement and (the reward for reciting the Qur'an) says:
'O Lord! Decorate him."
So he is donned with a crown of nobility.
Then it says: "O Lord! Give him more!' So he is donned with a suit of nobility.
Then it says: "O Lord! Be pleased with him.'
So He is pleased with him and says:
"Recite and rise up, and be increased in reward with every Ayah.'"

(At tirmidhi, 2915)
Narrated 'Atiyyah:
from Abu Sa'eed, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

"The Lord, Blessed and Most High is He, has said:
'Whoever is too busy with the Qur'an for remembering Me and asking Me, then I shall give him more than what I give to those who ask.'
And the virtue of Allah's Speech over the speech of others is like the virtue of Allah over His creation.

Allah has prepared some good for His believing slaves in every stage of life i.e. they are always experiencing some blessing from their Lord, whether they encounter what they like or dislike. And Allah has made His judgments and decrees which He ordains and makes possible for them like trade by which they profit from, or pathways by which they are able to reach Him; just as it is affirmed in the Sahih hadith :

"Amazing is the affair of the believer. Indeed all of his affairs are good! And that is not for anyone but the believer. If good befalls him, he is grateful and so it is good for him; and if harm befalls him, he is patient and so it is good for him."

If Allah opens the slave's heart to the doors of contemplation over the benefits of the affliction and all that it contains of favours and grace, he turns from being patient to being grateful and pleased with it.
In truth, the affliction transforms into a blessing and both his heart and tongue continue to call out: "My Lord! Help me to remember You, thank You and worship You well!

This condition is either strengthened or weakened in accordance to the strength and weakness of the slave's love for Allah.

- Principles of Patience, Ibn taymiyah

"From the evening of Thursday to the evening of Friday, every second is filled with treasures of good deeds.

So, increase your prayers upon the Prophet on Friday night. Whoever desires a heart filled with ease, forgiveness of sins, relief from distress, and removal of worries should increase their prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ."
