Etiquettes of Salaf in completing the Ramadaan - Part 2️⃣

➡️ Completing Ramadaan with Perfection and Excellence and being worried about its acceptance.

Tomorrow the souls will be repaid what they earned,
And the sowers will harvest what they sowed,

If they did well, they did well for their own selves,
And if they did poorly, then how wretched is what they did!

➡️The pious predecessors used to exert themselves in completing an action, and perfecting it, and excelling in it, and then they would be concerned about its acceptance after that, and fear that it might be rejected. And these are those who “give what they give while their hearts are fearful [because they will be returning to their Lord]” [23:60].

It is narrated from ‘Ali (raadiAllaahu ‘anhu) that he said, “Be more concerned about the acceptance of deeds than about the deeds themselves. Haven’t you heard Allah say, “Indeed, Allah only accepts from the muttaqoon” [5:27]?

And Faḍaalah ibn ‘Ubayd said, “That I would know that Allah has accepted so much as a mustard seed’s weight from me is more beloved to me than the dunya and everything in it, for Allah says, “Indeed, Allah only accepts from the muttaqoon” [5:27].

For any menstruating sisters and ill person during these final nights, don’t despair!
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

”If the Night of Qadr was some night during the entire year, I’d stand in night prayer the entire year to get it. So what do you suppose should be done for merely ten nights?.”

Making Conscious Choices

"Donating a single dirham while I'm alive is more beloved to me than having a hundred dirhams donated on my behalf after my death."

~ Maymūn ibn Mihrān (d.145H)

Imam Ahmad recorded from Zirr that he asked Ubayy bin Kab,

"O Abu Al-Mundhir! Verily, your brother Ibn Mas
ud says whoever stands for prayer (at night) the entire year, will catch the Night of Al-Qadr."

Verily, the sign of the Night of Al-Qadr is that it is pure and glowing as if there were a bright, tranquil, calm moon during it.

It is not cold, nor is it hot, and no shooting star is permitted until morning.

Its sign is that the sun appears on the morning following it smooth having no rays on it, just like the moon on a full moon night.

Shaytan is not allowed to come out with it (the sun) on that day.

ibn al-jawzī [‏رحمه الله] said:

if a muslim doesn’t finish the recitation of the qurʾān in ramaḍān, which is the month of the qurʾān, then he will not finish its recitation during the remainder of the year except if Allāh wills.

and the lack of finishing its recitation is a failure which requires consistently making duʿāʾ to hide the distress and to lift negligence away from the heart.

muḥammad b. kaʿab said:

whoever reads the qurʾān will enjoy his intellect even if he reaches 100 years of age.

the most virtuous of deeds in the last 10 nights

ibn rajab said:

the nabī ‎ﷺ would pray tahajjud in the nights of ramaḍān, and he would recite melodiously and with a measured pace.

he would not pass an āyah of mercy without asking for it, nor an āyah of punishment without seeking refuge from it.

so he would combine between prayer, recitation, supplication and contemplation, and this is the most virtuous and complete of deeds in the last 10 nights and other than it.

Make supplication seeking 'Aafiyah (well-being)!

“If I knew which night is Laylatul Qadr, I would not ask Allāh for anything except for well-being⁽¹⁾ in it.”

'Abdul 'Aziz Al-Khudhayr said:
"This was reported by Ibn Abī Shaybah and Al-Bayhaqī, in a Sahīh Kūfiy Hadīth in its essence, and in Mawqūf form."

And Khālid al-Hayek also said that the chain of this Hadīth is Sahīh.
____________________

⁽¹⁾ Al-'Āfiyah العَافِيَة is a word with a deep meaning. Henceforth, it means saving (one's) Deen from fitnah, and also (safety) from the loss of health of the body, in addition to protection of one's ahl and wealth from those calamities too.

What is the difference between seeking 'Afuw (الْعَفْوَ) and seeking 'Āfiyah (العَافِيَة)?

'Afuw (الْعَفْوَ) means waiving and erasion; this is the erasing of the Uqūbah (Punishment/Retaliation) due for the sin.

On the other hand, (المَغْفِرَة) means forgiveness in return for his Thawāb (rewards). Therefore, Maghfirah is an Attribute that is only related to Allāh and not to His slaves. So we cannot refer to anyone else with that which is smiliar to اَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّه (O Allāh, forgive me).

It is said that (الْعَفْوَ) is erasing of the Punishment and that (المَغْفِرَة) is saving one from being exposed and the humiliation/degradation thereafter, as one is only completely freed from the Punishment of Hell when one is saved from the humiliation (that stems from those sins and wrongdoings).

Hence, (الْعَفْوَ) is being rescued from the Bodily Punishment while (المَغْفِرَة) is related to the Spiritual one.

Based on this, (الْعَافِيَةَ) is completely different from the two (الْعَفْوَ and المَغْفِرَة)- it is the well-being of a slave from all ailments and calamities that they face in the dunyā and ākhirah. And the meaning is vast.

[For more details: source]

It is said in a Hadīth reported by at-Tirmithī and Ahmad:

Mu'ādh Ibn Rifā'āh narrated from his father:
Abū Bakr as-Siddīq rose to the minbar and started weeping and said:
Rasūlullah ﷺ rose to the minbar on the first year of Hijrah and wept. Then he said:
«سَلُوا اللَّهَ الْعَفْوَ وَالْعَافِيَةَ فَإِنَّ أَحَدًا لَمْ يُعْطَ بَعْدَ الْيَقِينِ خَيْرًا مِنَ الْعَافِيَةِ»
“Ask Allāh for الْعَفْوَ and الْعَافِيَةَ for indeed after the certainty (of faith), there is nothing that has been given to anyone of you which is better than الْعَافِيَةَ.”

At-Tirmithī said: This chain is Hasan Gharīb. And al-Arnaoot said in the Takhrīj of the Musnad: Its chain is Hasan.

Oh Allah
I seek refuge in You against the declining of Your Favours, passing of safety, the suddenness of Your punishment and all that which displeases You..
