السنة في العشر الأواخر أن لا ينام في ليل العشر الأواخر وأن يبقى الليل كله مستيقظا، يقرأ القرآن ، يذكر الله ويصلي!

كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا دخل العشر أحيا ليله!! .

imām al-dhahabī recorded that imām al-awzāʿī (رحمه الله) said:

من أطال قيام الليل، هون الله عليه وقوف يوم القيامة.
"whoever lengthens his standing in the night prayer, Allāh will make his standing on the day of resurrection easy for him."

[sīyar aʿlām al-nubulāʾ, 7/120]

the virtues of the last ten nights of ramaḍān


ā'isha رضي الله عنها said that when the last ten nights of ramaḍān would enter, the prophet ﷺ would “tighten his belt (i.e strive to do a lot of worship), stayed awake all night [in worship] and wakened his family.”

- ṣaḥīḥ al-bukhāri 2024

the phrase “tighten his belt” is a phrase used to indicate that the prophet ﷺ would strive hard in worship more than usual. some scholars have explained it as that the prophet ﷺ would keep away from women and from sexual relations. nonetheless, it shows that he ﷺ would worship in these nights more than any other night, so we should try to follow the footsteps of the prophet ﷺ now that the last ten nights have started.


‘ā’isha رضي الله عنها also narrated that the prophet ﷺ would “strive hard in worship during the last ten nights of ramaḍān as he never did at any other time”

- ṣaḥīḥ muslim 1175



and one of the most important merits of the last ten nights of ramaḍān is the presence of laylat al qadr, the night when the qur'ān was revealed. and the night which is better than 1000 months. as Allāh ﷻ says:

اِنَّآ اَنْزَلْنٰهُ فِيْ لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ
verily! We have sent it (this qur'ān) down in the night of al-qadr (decree)

وَمَآ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ
and what will make you know what the night of al-qadr (decree) is?

لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ ەۙ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ اَلْفِ شَهْرٍۗ
the night of al-qadr (decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allāh in that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months, (i.e. 83 years and 4 months).

تَنَزَّلُ الْمَلٰۤىِٕكَةُ وَالرُّوْحُ فِيْهَا بِاِذْنِ رَبِّهِمْۚ مِنْ كُلِّ اَمْرٍۛ
therein descend the angels and the rūh [jibrael (gabriel)] by Allāh's permission with all decrees,

سَلٰمٌ ۛهِيَ حَتّٰى مَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِ
peace! (all that night, there is peace and goodness from Allāh to His believing slaves) until the appearance of dawn.


and when the prophet ﷺ was talking about ramaḍān, he said:

“in it Allāh has a night which is better than a thousand months; whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived."

- an-nisā’ī 2106

and the prophet ﷺ also said:

“and he who observed prayer on laylat al qadr with faith and seeking reward (from Allāh), all his previous sins would be forgiven.”

- al-bukhārī 1901, muslim 760

so make sure you make use of these ten blessed nights as this could be the last ramaḍān we witness. may Allāh allow us to be of those who strive in worship in these nights.

إِنَّ الله جعل شهرَ رمضان لخلقهِ مِضمارًا يستبقونَ فيه بطاعتِه إِلىٰ مرضاته، فسبق قومٌ ففازوا، وتخلَّفَ آخرون فخابوا.

فالعَجَبُ من اللَّاعب الضَّاحِك في اليوم الَّذي يفوز فيه المحسنون ويخسر فيه المُطلبون.

لَيْلَةُ القَدْرِ تُحْسَبُ بِالعُمْر 🌌
Laylat ul-Qadr is Equivalent to a Lifetime

قال ابن رجب رحمه الله: يا مَـن ضاعَ عمرهُ في لَا شَيء
Ibn Rajab رحمه الله said, “O’ you who has wasted the years of his life,

‏ اسْتَدْرك ما فَاتَكَ في ليلة القدر
amend those lost and wasted years in the night of al-Qadr (decree),

‏فَإنَّهَا تُحْسَبُ بِالعُمر.
for verily it is equivalent to that of a lifetime.”

قال الله عز وجل: لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ.
Allah عز وجل said, “The Night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months.”

أي: العمل فيها خير من العمل في ألف شهر ليس فيها ليلة القدر.
Meaning that worshipping Allah in that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months,

وألف شهر يعادل ٨٣ سنة وأربعة أشهر.
which is equivalent to 83 years and 4 months).

قال رسول الله ﷺ: أَعْمَارُ أُمَّتِي مَا بَيْنَ السِّتِّينَ إِلَى السَّبْعِينَ وَأَقَلُّهُمْ مَنْ يَجُوزُ ذَلِكَ.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The ages of (the people in) my nation will be between sixty and seventy, and few of them will exceed that.”

اشكُر الله تعالى أن أقامَكَ في هذه الليلة بينَ يديهِ وغيركَ محروم، وإيَّاكَ والعُجب بالنفْس؛ فإنَّه خُلُقٌ مذموم!

اللهُمَّ لا تحرمني وإخواني أجر هذه الليلة، اللهُمَّ تقبَّل مِنَّا أعمالنا إنَّكَ أنت السَّميع العليم.
