Ibn al Qayyim رحمه الله said:

The origin of all good and evil that is found in the servant and all that is praised or dispraised, are from Allah, the Donator and the Preventer. He, the Exalted manages His servants according to these two attributes. The true and sincere worshiper will praise Allah when He gives to him and will turn to Allah when He prevents him from something. Allah, the Exalted gives to him in order to be praised and prevents him in order to be asked. The sincere servant will always praise Allah and ask Him.

[Al Fawaid, p. 121]
Ibn al-Qayyim — may Allah have mercy on him — said:

“Describing fasting: It is the restraint of the righteous, the shield of the warriors, and the garden of the virtuous and those brought near (to Allah). It is for the Lord of the worlds among all other deeds.”

📚 | Zad al-Ma'ad (2/34).

Fasting is a secret between the servant and his Lord that no one else can perceive, because it is composed of an inward intention that none knows except Allah, and refraining from indulging in desires which are usually done in private. Therefore, it has been said that the recording angels do not write it down. And it has also been said that there is no showing off in it.

A very important reminder to not be negligent during this season of obedience

“By Allah, a servant is not afflicted with any calamity greater than the calamity of heedlessness during the seasons of worship; and no one is forsaken in this world and the Hereafter like the one who wastes the opportunities to draw near to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, when the doors have been opened for him.”

The previous Ummah were given very long lifespans, and they had a lot of time to perform good deeds. But the lifespan of this Ummah is generally between fifty to sixty years. But Allah blessed this Ummah with special times in which small deeds bring very great rewards.

For example, the month of Ramadan where even saying Subhan Allah once carries immense reward, far greater than normal days. And this month there is one night, Laylatul Qadr, which is better than a thousand months.

So we must truly value these opportunities. Allah Himself described Ramadan as أياما معدودات meaning only a few counted days. Allah did not say many long days. And from these counted days, ten fasts have already passed, and only twenty remain.

Fasting is a great act of worship, but it is also very delicate. Because of our small carelessness and mistakes, the reward of it can decrease. We must protect our fast from every قول الزور (false or bad speech) and.  فعل الزور (wrong actions). We should protect it from bad talk, useless matters, and every sinful action done by our tongue, hands, feet, or eyes. Otherwise, a person may lose the reward of his fasting

Whoever does not leave false speech and acting upon it, Allah has no need for him leaving his food and drink
[Bukhari 1903]

Many who fast gain nothing from their fast except hunger.
[Ibn e majah 1690]

Therefore, we must be very careful about this. If we strive sincerely and protect our fasting properly, then In sha Allah, on the Day of Judgment we will meet Allah and receive the complete reward of our fast.

There is no sin upon you for what you do by mistake, but the sin is in what your hearts deliberately intend. And Allah is Ever Forgiving and Most Merciful.

Rasoolullah ﷺ said that Allah has forgiven my Ummah for their mistakes, forgetfulness, and for the things they are forced to do. However, a person will be accountable for what he intentionally does with the intention of his heart.

[Ibn e Majah 2045]
If you read the Qur’an with joy, it increases it; and if you read it with sorrow, it removes it. If you reflect deeply upon its majesty and beauty, its warnings and its promises, your fear will grow, your hope will be refined, and your love will be strengthened.

Through it, you are secure without guards, and rich without wealth.

You rise above every arrogant person and grow gentle with every humble one.

Its people are the People of Allah, and glad tidings to the one who befriends it.

So stir your hearts toward it, and gather your souls around it—seeking profit and reviving your spirits through its recitation, memorization, understanding, and study:
“This is a spring of water to wash in, cool and a (refreshing) drink.”

Shaykh Dr. Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUṣaymī
Abundant Recitation of the Qur’an in Ramadan

The practice of the Salaf – may Allah have mercy on them – was to strive in completing the recitation of the Qur’an many times during the month of Ramadan. Among them were those who completed it every ten days, some every seven days, and some every three days.

It is mentioned in the biography of Imam al-Shafi‘i – may Allah have mercy on him – that he would have sixty completions of the Qur’an in Ramadan.

This is something that those with strong souls, who turn wholeheartedly to Allah can comprehend and achieve. As for those whose strength is weak and whose turning to their Lord is little, they find this far-fetched and consider it a kind of imagination.

It has been authentically reported from ‘Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) that he recited the entire Qur’an in a single rak‘ah.

He was able to do so because of the perfection of his devotion to his Lord, and his absorption in the delight of reciting the Qur’an. It has been narrated from him, with a weak chain, that he said: “If our hearts were pure, they would never tire of the words of our Lord.”

So, when the heart is pure, its delight in the speech of the Lord is greater than its delight in anything else, and this drives one to increase in completing the recitation of the Qur’an.

A believer never settles into stagnation, every day should bring some form of improvement in character, faith, knowledge or action. Al-Hasan al-Basrī (d.110H) said:

"If today is no better than yesterday, you're losing out. If today is worse than yesterday, you're truly deprived. And if you're not moving forward (in progress), you're quietly falling behind (in regress)."

"I completed Umrah.”
“I finished reciting the Quran.”
“I performed Tarāwīh prayers.”

“I did this and did that...”

Where is the hidden deed?!
Where is the sincerity?!

Muhammad ibn Aslam said: “If I were able to perform a voluntary act of worship where my two angels don't see me, I would do it, out of fear of showing off.”
From a Khutbah at the Grand Mosque in Mecca:

“How swiftly the nights and days pass, and how quickly the months and times slip away. The month of Ramadan has already passed its midpoint. The successful one is the person who has rolled up their sleeves and is marked by seriousness and determination, resolved to make the most of what remains. So be mindful of your month, for most of it has already gone, and what remains is its crown and its jewel.

Now the last ten nights have arrived, bringing their goodness and blessings—ten nights of forgiveness, gentle breezes of mercy, freedom from the Fire, compassion and mercy, answered prayers, multiplied good deeds, and the wiping away of sins. How great is the success of the one who catches them with righteous actions and makes up for whatever shortcomings or deficiencies may have occurred earlier.

The punishment for a bad deed is a bad deed equal to it. But whoever forgives and makes peace, his reward is with Allah. Indeed, Allah does not like the wrongdoers

Just like the reward of fasting and patience is without measure, in the same way forgiving and overlooking others is also a very great deed whose reward Allah has not set any limit for.
The meaning of this verse is that a person is allowed to take equal revenge. However, what is better and more virtuous is to forgive and overlook.

This means that even if someone has the right to take revenge for an injury, if he forgives, it becomes a means of forgiveness for his own sins. That is why Allah says that whoever forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is with Allah.

It is also mentioned in a hadith that when a person forgives others, Allah increases him in honor and respect. But if someone takes revenge greater than the original wrongdoing, then he becomes a wrongdoer, and the blame will return to him.
Increase in dua and continue knocking on the door

It is reported that Abu al-Darda' said:

“Increase in Du’a, for indeed, whoever knocks on the door frequently will soon have it opened for him.”

During these blessed nights, several virtues gather for the believer within a single night: the hour in which supplication is answered, the divine descent, the state of prostration, and the honor of the time, which is Ramadan.

The righteous predecessors of this nation used to regularly perform night prayer, especially in the month of Ramadan, following the example of their Prophet ﷺ.

On the authority of Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Indeed in the night there is an hour during which no Muslim asks Allah for good in this world or the Hereafter except that Allah gives it to him, and that occurs every night.”

Therefore, the believer should be eager to perform tahajjud prayer and should strive to realize the causes of answered supplication: sincerity to Allah, presence of the heart, strong hope in Him, and drawing near to Allah through righteous deeds and voluntary acts of worship.

Allah knows best.
Ibn al Jawzi

I think part of the test is when a believer supplicates and receives no response, and he repeats the Dua for a long time and sees no sign of a response. He should realise that this is a test and needs patience.
