Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli
Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli
And indeed, We gave Luqman wisdom, saying: “Be grateful to Allah.” Whoever is grateful, he is grateful for his own benefit. And whoever is ungrateful, then surely Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy.

A man once asked Hazrat Luqman Hakeem
“What is the reason that people sit in your gatherings, come to your door, and listen to your words with interest?”
Hazrat Luqman Hakeem replied:
“Brother, if you act upon the things I tell you, you will also become like me:
– Keep your eyes away from what is forbidden
– Stop your tongue from useless and indecent speech
– Always earn and eat halal
– Protect your modesty
– Always speak the truth
– Fulfil your promises
– Honor your guests
– Care for your neighbors
– Leave useless and pointless actions
Because of these habits, I was given respect and honor.

Duaa For Someone You Have Insulted, Cursed or Harmed
O Allah, I am only human, so any Muslim whom I curse or revile, make it purification and reward for him.

An advice before Ramadan…
Whoever finds that his heart does not open, and that he does not attain the sweetness of faith or the light of guidance, then let him increase in repentance and seeking forgiveness, and let him persist in striving to the best of his ability.
For Allah says:
“And those who strive for Us—We will surely guide them to Our ways.”
And he must uphold the obligatory duties—seeking help from Allah, and fosaking all power and strength except through Him.
Majmūʿ al-Fatāwā, by Ibn Taymiyyah (11/390)

Hasan al Basri رحمه الله said:
Look for sweetness in three things:
in prayer, in reciting the Qur’an,
and in remembering Allah.
If you find this sweetness, then continue and be grateful. But if you do not find it, then know that the door is closed, so make efforts to open it.

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:
These 5 things are amongst the greatest corrupters of the heart
1. Too much socialising.
2. Wishing for things.
3. Attachment to others besides Allah.
4. Filling one's stomach.
5. Sleeping too much.

Ibn Rajab (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
The Salaf used to advise perfecting one’s deeds and doing them well, rather than doing a great deal of them.
For a small amount of work done with excellence and precision is better than a large amount done with heedlessness and lack of care.
Majmūʿ al-Rasāʾil (1/352)

“And know that Allah, the Exalted, is watching you and fully aware of you.
So say to yourself:
If a righteous man from my own people were to see me, I would feel ashamed before him—so how could I not feel ashamed before my Lord, Blessed and Exalted?
Then I cannot feel safe from the hastening of His punishment or from His removing the veil (that conceals my faults).”
Ibn Qudāmah al-Maqdisī, al-Waṣiyyah al-Mubārakah, pp. 94–95

“إِذَا مَاتَ الْعَبْدُ اِنْقَطَعَ عَنْهُ عَمَلِهُ إِلا مِنْ ثَلاثٍ: صَدَقَةِ جَارِيَةٍ، أَوْ عِلَمٍ يُنْتَفَعُ بِهِ، أَوْ وَلَدٍ صالِحِ يَدعَوْ لهَ.”

sadaqa which continues,
knowledge which benefits,

Shaitan makes every possible effort to lead us away from the straight path and make us ungrateful. And if he cannot do that, then he tries to make sure that at least we don't collect reward and good deeds for Aakhirah or even if we do, it is very little.

Why does one of us complain about not being affected by the Qur’an in the month of Ramadan?
Why does Ramadan come to him and leave — and, Allah forbid, he remains the same?
By Allah, he remains the same. He does not benefit from it. He recites but does not humble himself. He completes many recitations of the Qur’an, yet there is no change in his heart, nor in his limbs, nor in his soul.
This is because, O servants of Allah, the heart was not prepared before Ramadan.
The Qur’an does not settle in a heart that is preoccupied, nor does it enter a heart over which sin has cast a covering, veiled by disobedience.
Allah, the Exalted, says:
“No! Rather, a covering has been placed over their hearts because of what they used to earn.”
When a person sins, O servants of Allah, it forms a covering over the heart. So Sha‘ban is an opportunity to regret what has passed, to make sincere repentance, to resolve truthfully to worship Allah, to have firm intention to do good and abandon wrongdoing, to give preference to acts of nearness to Allah, and to strengthen the connection between the servant and his Lord, Glorified and Exalted.
So in these days, O beloved ones, there is a tremendous opportunity for seeking forgiveness, repentance, and reforming the hearts so that they may be prepared for the Month of the Qur’an and the gates of goodness within it.
Allah says:
“Indeed, in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart or listens attentively while being present.”
The limbs — the ears and the eyes — convey to the heart, so a Muslim should use these faculties in what pleases Allah, Glorified and Exalted.
You will be held accountable for these limbs:
“The Day when their tongues, their hands, and their feet will testify against them about what they used to do.”

“Or do you think that you will be left (without trial) while Allah has not yet made evident those among you who strive (in His cause) and do not take other than Allah, His Messenger, and the believers as intimate allies? And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.”
It is from the way (law) of Allah to test (His servants), so do not think, O believers, that Allah will leave you without trial. Rather, He tests you so that it becomes evident to people who among you are sincere in striving, and who do not take anyone other than Allah, His Messenger, and the believers as close allies. And Allah is fully aware of all your deeds and will recompense you accordingly.

Surah At-Tawbah (9:16).
Patience (الصبر) is not only when you suffer physical pain and you remain patient, or when you lose something beloved or someone passes away and you remain patient. This is patience upon Allah’s decree.
But there is an even higher level of patience, and that is patience in staying away from sins and patience in obeying Allah. Patience in avoiding sin means that when you are alone, no one is watching you, and you have all the means to commit a wrong act, but still you don't do it because you fear Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala. And also, if someone curses you or abuses you and you remain patient and don't respond, this is also a type of patience, patience in avoiding wrongdoing.
The second type of patience is to remain firm in obedience to Allah. For example, it is a very cold night, you are extremely tired, your sleep is very sweet and deep, and your heart does not feel like getting up. But when you hear the azan (حي على الصلاه) you still get up and establish the prayer despite your tiredness and Similarly, if someone treats you badly and you respond with kindness and goodness, this is also a form of patience in obedience.

Say, 'O My servants who have believed, fear your Lord. For those who do good in this world is good, and the earth of Allah is vast. Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without measure.

Signs of Ignorance
The signs of ignorance are three:
Selt-amazement.
Speaking excessively about that which does not concern a person.
Forbidding something and then doing it oneself.

'Ilm wa Fadlihi (1/569)]
