You'll Die Between Two Good Deeds...

Muʿādh b. Jabal رضي الله عنه advised his son:

"My son! Pray the prayer of he who is just about to leave, and realise that you might not be able to pray ever again. And know, my son, that the believer dies between two good deeds; one that he performed, and one that he intended to perform later on."

The True Test Is When You Have The Desire Aswell As The Ability

Ibn al-Jawzī رحمه الله said:

"Do you know what a man is? A true man is he who finds himself alone with sins, and has the power to commit them and his lusts urges him to quench its thirst, but he thinks about Allāh looking at him, so he feels embarrassed from angering Him and thus his desire goes away.

But it seems that you only abandon things that you do not have desire for, or things that are not desirable in the first place, or even things that you are unable to have! This is your habit!"

it is upon you to be patient and make prayer (as a means to remove your sadness)."

Jābir b. ʿAbd Allah said, "The Prophet ʿalayhi al-salam went out to his companions and recited Sūrah al-Raḥmān to them from start to finish; they kept silent. The Prophet then said, ‘I had recited it to the jinn the night they met with me, and they had a better response than yours. Every time I recited His statement, ‘Which of His blessings will you both then deny?’ They would say, ‘Not a single blessing of yours, our Lord, can we deny; to You alone belongs all praise.’"

We used to count from the greatest of sins: that a man would learn the Quran and then go to sleep not having recited anything from it.

Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali (rahimahullah) wrote:

Sha’baan is like a precursor to Ramadan.

The things which are legislated in Ramadan – such as fasting and reciting the Qur’an – are also legislated in Sha’baan so that one can be prepared to meet Ramadan and accustom himself to obeying Ar-Rahman.

📖 With Ramadan coming up, it is a great time to set a daily reading goal for the Qur'an. We have translated a few articles related to Qur'an reading schedules:

📅 If you want to complete the Qur'an in a month but don't want to stop in the middle of a surah, see the first chart from ibn Taymiyah and this accompanying article:

📅 If you want to complete the Qur'an in a month but don't want to stop in the middle of a story or passage, see the second chart from sheikh 'Abd al-Muhsin al-'Abbaad and this accompanying article:

The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said:

“When Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained up.”

The channel through which the devils flow, which is the bloodstream, is restricted, and when it is restricted, people are motivated to do good deeds, because of which the gates of Paradise are opened, and they are motivated to refrain from evil deeds, because of which the gates of Hell are opened. The devils are chained up, and their strength and influence is weakened as a result of their being chained up, so they are not able to do during the month of Ramadan what they do at other times. He did not say that they are killed or that they die; rather he said that they are chained up, and the devil who is chained up can still do harm, but it is less and weaker than it may be at times other than Ramadan. It depends on how perfect or otherwise the fast is; if a person’s fast is perfect, then the Shaytaan is warded off in a manner that does not happen in the case of an imperfect fast.

End quote from Majmoo‘ al-Fataawa (25/246).

The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “When Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained up.” The channel through which the devils flow, which is the bloodstream, is…
Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

It was said: This indicates that the accountable adult has no excuse. It is as if it is said to him: The devils are restrained from you, so do not blame them for your failing to do acts of worship and obedience or for your doing acts of disobedience.

End quote from Fath al-Baari by Ibn Hajar (4/114).

Allah has assisted the believers in their fasting by commanding them to perform this acts all together and at the same time and to fulfill this obligation collectively during this month of blessings.  Performing good deeds together makes the work easy for those involved, for if every individual had to fast alone, then this would lessen their enthusiasm and accentuate the struggle for the Muslims.

Allah has assisted His slaves through instructing them to delay the suhoor and to hasten to break the fast. What’s more, He also multiplies the reward of the fasting person for their salaah, reading the Qur’an, dhikr, charity, and making istighfaar

So praise your Lord who has granted you life and health so that you could reach Ramadan, for how many people wished for it, and then their physical strength waned and so they did not reach it?
