From October 1, 2024, the government has reduced the Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) rates for certain types of payments. Here’s what’s changed:

1. Life Insurance Payouts (Section 194DA): If you receive a payment from a life insurance policy, the TDS rate has dropped from 5% to 2%.

2. Lottery Ticket Commissions (Section 194G): For commissions on the sale of lottery tickets, TDS is now 2%, down from 5%.

3. Commissions and Brokerage (Section 194H): If you earn income through commissions or as a broker, the TDS rate has reduced from 5% to 2%.

4. Rent Payments (Section 194-IB): If you are an individual or part of a Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) paying rent, the TDS on rent is now 2%, down from 5%.

5. Certain Payments by Individuals or HUF (Section 194M): When individuals or HUFs make certain payments, such as to contractors, the TDS rate has dropped from 5% to 2%.

6. Payments by E-commerce Platforms (Section 194-O): For payments made by e-commerce operators to sellers on their platform, TDS is now 0.1%, reduced from 1%.

In simple terms, TDS rates on these payments have been cut, meaning less tax will be deducted upfront in these cases.
