An Rh-positive male marries an Rh-negative female. The first Rh-positive child is alive but the second child who is also Rh-positive did not survive. Why?
👶👧🤰
First Child:
- antigen D is produced during the last month of pregnancy
- concentration of antibodies is not enough to affect the foetus
= too few & too late
Second Child:
- already has antigen D from first pregnancy
- "prepared for attack"
- destroy foetus' red blood cells
- foetus may die if blood isnt replaced with Rh-negative blood
