🇨🇳 International students in China are allowed to work part-time

Up until now, foreign students have not legally been allowed to work while studying in China.

🔖 The relevant decree was published on the official website of China's Ministry of Education. According to the document, foreign students get the right to work during extracurricular time to "improve their learning and living conditions. At the same time, universities, together with local authorities, will have to coordinate the official employment of students: informing them about new job opportunities, issuing them official work permits, and monitoring their compliance with all requirements, as well as fixing their place of employment. According to the new rules, working hours for international students may not exceed eight hours a week and 40 hours a month. Students must not exceed 16 hours per week and 80 hours per month during summer and winter vacations. The pay for 40 working hours per month must not be lower than the cost of living.

📌 To be able to work, international students must meet the following criteria:

🔹 be over the age of 18
🔹 have a residence permit valid for more than 6 months (mandatory for foreign students after arriving in China)
🔹 have no criminal or disciplinary record and good academic record
🔹 be employed only in the administrative district where their institution is located.

❗️There may be additional criteria for a work permit depending on the university.
