Forwarded from Preeti Kumari: UPSC CSE & Beyond
A note for the month of December:
1. Wrap up your preparation for Mains. Especially focus on optional and those subjects that you won’t touch in the next few months starting Jan, for eg- Internal Security/ World History/ Disaster Management etc.
2. Make notes for them, write a test for a sense of finality.
3. Those in North India, it’s the time of extreme winters. I remember most friends would complain how much they struggled to study in the winters. Complacency and laziness sets in, both in equal measures.
4. I used to do a few things to keep myself active and productive, which are:
a. Get some exercise, early morning.
b. Eat healthy, no sugar. Stay hydrated.
c. Wear socks and shoes throughout the day. Will keep you warm, active, away from the bed of comfort.
d. Invest in a heater. Don’t try and save money over a heater while splurging somewhere else and wasting the precious few months that are infront of you.
e. Wrap yourself in a thinner blanket but sit on your chair and table when it gets too cold. (I would do it for early morning slots)
Further,
5. Mission mode me finish things.
6. Make time for friends and family but it shouldn’t become weeklong celebrations.
7. Take a day off on Christmas and one on 31st.
End the year content, determined and focused. Count your blessings, send notes of gratitude to those who made the year worth it for you.
And this winter study so hard and prepare so well that when the ‘summer of prelims’ arrives, you’re ready! So ready that there’s no force stopping you.
Love & Best wishes

💣 Dirty Bomb:
▫️A “dirty bomb” is a dispersion device containing radioactive material – possibly uranium, but more likely low-grade materials such as caesium-137 or other radioactive materials in common use.
☢️ It doesn't need to contain highly refined radioactive material, as is used in a nuclear bomb. Instead, it could use radioactive materials from hospitals, nuclear power stations or research laboratories.
This makes them much cheaper and quicker to make than nuclear weapons.
☢️ For Example: They can also be carried in the back of a vehicle.
💣 Concerns:
☢️ The immediate health impact would probably be limited, since most people in an affected area would be able to escape before experiencing lethal doses of radiation.
☢️ However, the radioactive dust and smoke spread farther away could be dangerous to health if it is inhaled. Because people cannot see, smell, feel, or taste radiation.
☢️ The economic damage could be massive from having to evacuate urban areas or even abandon whole cities.
