On the 32nd anniversary celebration of the Constitution Day,  I would like to share my Op-Ed Article on the Influence of Buddhist thought on the Cambodian constitution. Since the 13th century, Buddhist teachings have been strongly connected with the social, political, economic, cultural, and environmental domains of Cambodian governance in almost every era throughout history, except the Khmer Rouge era, under the leadership of Pol Pot. Simultaneously, the 1993 constitutional monarchy of the Kingdom of Cambodia was a hybrid legal document, including the 1947 national constitution, the constitution of the State of Cambodia, and the spirit of the 1991 Paris Peace Agreement. This new constitution has revitalized the Khmer indigenous religion and the traditional political system of monarchy by recognizing Buddhism as a state religion and appointing the King as the head of state.
