Музыка группы The Velvet Sundown — рок, вдохновлённый вайбом 70-х. Дебютировав в июне, они начали быстро завоёвывать аудиторию. Ещё большую популярность им дало попадание в чарт редакторской подборки Spotify в конце месяца.
Однако вскоре в Сети стали появляться догадки, что музыканты не настоящие. Пользователи заметили, что коллектив выпускает альбомы слишком уж часто: первый появился 7 июня, второй — спустя две недели, а третий планировался уже в июле. Дальше стало известно, что у группы нет реальных фотографий — все изображения сгенерированы с желтоватым фильтром, характерным для ChatGPT.
Из-за шумихи журнал Rolling Stone связался с Эндрю Фрелоном, представлявшимся менеджером группы. Однако выяснилось, что он самозванец, а кто по-настоящему стоит за группой — неизвестно.
