"While the spectacle up north draws all the attention, worth remembering that one of the country's fastest growing cities has seen construction drawn to a halt by an actual truckers strike -- one that began with a single small shop and rapidly snowballed across the metro area"
"Striking concrete workers in Seattle have shut down the city’s $23 billion construction industry. The teamsters are fighting for higher wages & better health benefits for retirees. 34 workers walked out in November. Now 300+ workers at 6 companies are on a general strike."

The photograph shows Nikita Uvarov—arrested at age 14. The prosecutor is demanding that he serve 9 years in Russian prison.
The crime? He and two other 14-year-old anarchists put posters on a building belonging to the Russian secret police.
The Russian government has been in the news for its actions in Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Ukraine. Let's also remember how they treat Russians—for example, mobilizing an entire "anti-terror" campaign to persecute Nikita and his friends.
"If they give me a real term," Nikita has declared, "I will serve it with a clear conscience and dignity."
No child should have to face such a fate, certainly not on account of his politics. This is what we mean when we say "authoritarian."
Tomorrow, on February 10, Nikita Uvarov and two other kids his age will face sentencing.
