Stride

πΏ *Stride v1.0.3 is out*
Two things in this one.
*Verdant β a new theme*
Not a recolour. Four screens were rebuilt around it: warm off-white ground,
olive-lime accents, and a dark panel that curves into the stat card. Today drops
the progress ring for a goal curve. History finally answers the question the
screen exists for β how does this stretch compare to the last one. Awards is
built on rings so it stops looking like History. Settings got quiet section
labels and theme tiles that actually render each look, so you pick by looking.
You now have three: *Classic Β· Retro Β· Verdant*.
*Stride can write to Health Connect*
It could always read. Now it can publish back, so the steps, distance and active
calories Stride counts show up in your other health apps instead of being stuck
here.
It's off by default β Settings β Health Connect β *Write steps back*. Turning it
on asks for write permission separately and backfills your last 30 days. Turning
it off asks whether to leave the shared data alone or remove it; nothing gets
deleted behind your back.
Calories go in as *active*, not total β Stride only estimates what you burned
moving, and filing that as a total would inflate every other app's numbers.
β¬οΈ *Download*
https://github.com/NikhilKain/stride/releases/tag/v1.0.3
Classic stays free and unchanged. Retro and Verdant are premium β one-time, no
subscription.

π Stride v1.0.5 is out β please update
This one fixes a real bug, and it is the kind that quietly ruins your numbers.
Accurate step filtering wasn't filtering
A user walked 15 minutes to a bus stop, rode to work, and arrived with about 17,000 steps instead of about 2,000 β with the setting switched on the whole way. He'd done nothing wrong. The switch said it was on while nothing was actually running behind it.
Four separate faults, all mine:
β’ The detector stopped after a reboot or a background kill and never restarted
β’ It could only filter Stride's own sensor β the same ride logged into Health Connect by another app came straight through
β’ Sitting still on a smooth bus counted as proof you'd got off
β’ Every failure was silent, so the switch kept looking healthy
All four are fixed. Settings now also tells you when the filter isn't running instead of pretending.
To be clear about one thing: accurate step filtering is free. It's in Settings β Tracking, and it never was a paid feature.
Stride can tell you about updates again
You're reading this because you follow the channel. That has been the only way to find out a release existed.
The in-app update checker was pulled ahead of the planned Play launch, which made sense for a Play build and no sense at all for the APK actually being handed out here. So 1.0.4 shipped with no way to announce itself.
It's back: Settings β Updates β check by hand, or automatically daily, weekly or monthly, with the release notes shown before you download anything. Set it to Never if you'd rather not.
If you skipped 1.0.4
You also get: a Step source setting so a watch or band's steps aren't thrown away in favour of your phone, Health Connect write-back so your steps reach your other health apps, a rebuilt home-screen widget in four sizes with distance and calories, and a start/stop tracking button on the home screen.

π Whatβs fixed

π§ Stride v1.0.7 β True North is out!
This one's for everyone who asked "why does my watch say one number and Stride another?" Thanks for the screenshots and comparisons. Every fix here started with one of them.
β Your watch counts again
With "Write steps back" on, Stride could ignore your watch and show the phone's count. Fixed.
π£ No more counting the same walk twice
Newer phones (Pixels included) record steps into Health Connect on their own. With a watch too, the same walk got counted twice. Now, on days your watch has steps, Stride counts the watch alone.
Your number may drop once after updating. That's the double counting coming out.
π See where your steps come from
β’ A line under your count shows the source, like "From Nothing X"
β’ New Step sources screen: every app writing steps, with its own count
β’ Pick which app Stride follows
β’ A warning when Health Connect is quietly ignoring one of your apps
β New Help screen with answers to the most common problems
π Exact steps for every hour in Insights: tap a bar, or press, hold and slide (Premium)
π¬ Weekly summary, now free, with how your week compares to the last one
π Fixes
β’ The vehicle filter no longer removes real watch steps
β’ "Open Health Connect" works on Android 14+
β’ Settings no longer shows impossible Health Connect totals
β¬οΈ Download: https://github.com/NikhilKain/stride/releases/latest
Install over your current version and don't uninstall first. Your history, settings and Premium stay.
