🚌 Stride v1.0.5 is out — please update

This one fixes a real bug, and it is the kind that quietly ruins your numbers.

Accurate step filtering wasn't filtering

A user walked 15 minutes to a bus stop, rode to work, and arrived with about 17,000 steps instead of about 2,000 — with the setting switched on the whole way. He'd done nothing wrong. The switch said it was on while nothing was actually running behind it.

Four separate faults, all mine:

• The detector stopped after a reboot or a background kill and never restarted
• It could only filter Stride's own sensor — the same ride logged into Health Connect by another app came straight through
• Sitting still on a smooth bus counted as proof you'd got off
• Every failure was silent, so the switch kept looking healthy

All four are fixed. Settings now also tells you when the filter isn't running instead of pretending.

To be clear about one thing: accurate step filtering is free. It's in Settings → Tracking, and it never was a paid feature.

Stride can tell you about updates again

You're reading this because you follow the channel. That has been the only way to find out a release existed.

The in-app update checker was pulled ahead of the planned Play launch, which made sense for a Play build and no sense at all for the APK actually being handed out here. So 1.0.4 shipped with no way to announce itself.

It's back: Settings → Updates — check by hand, or automatically daily, weekly or monthly, with the release notes shown before you download anything. Set it to Never if you'd rather not.

You also get: a Step source setting so a watch or band's steps aren't thrown away in favour of your phone, Health Connect write-back so your steps reach your other health apps, a rebuilt home-screen widget in four sizes with distance and calories, and a start/stop tracking button on the home screen.

Steps no longer repeatedly rise and drop because of conflicting Health Connect updates.
Notifications and the Live Update pill no longer get stuck showing yesterday’s steps after midnight.
Hit 10,000+ steps? Your number now fits properly inside the progress ring.
Pull-to-refresh immediately rechecks whether your phone or watch should supply today’s count—no more waiting for the cached choice to expire.

Premium works offline for up to 30 days between successful licence checks.

🧭 Stride v1.0.7 — True North is out!

This one's for everyone who asked "why does my watch say one number and Stride another?" Thanks for the screenshots and comparisons. Every fix here started with one of them.

⌚ Your watch counts again
With "Write steps back" on, Stride could ignore your watch and show the phone's count. Fixed.

👣 No more counting the same walk twice
Newer phones (Pixels included) record steps into Health Connect on their own. With a watch too, the same walk got counted twice. Now, on days your watch has steps, Stride counts the watch alone.
Your number may drop once after updating. That's the double counting coming out.

• A line under your count shows the source, like "From Nothing X"
• New Step sources screen: every app writing steps, with its own count
• Pick which app Stride follows
• A warning when Health Connect is quietly ignoring one of your apps

🚶 Stride v1.0.8 — Kinetic Flow

Thanks to everyone who reported mismatched counts and confusing source settings.
This update focuses on those problems.

• Fixed phone counter handling for duplicate/delayed readings and reboots.
• Removed the old behavior that could keep a higher phone count above the selected
Health Connect total.
• Improved vehicle filtering, and stopped applying it to imported watch/Health
Connect steps.
• Fixed tab-switching glitches and made walk controls easier to reach, with clearer
map and location feedback.

Four new widgets: Pocket, Orbit, Daily and Week, alongside the existing
Adaptive widget. Pick a compact step-and-distance tile, a goal ring, a daily
stats card or a seven-day chart. Add several at once from **Home screen →
Widgets → Stride**. The widget pack is free.

The defaults: Health Connect, vehicle filtering ON, write-back OFF.
Synced watch/band steps take priority through Health Connect. Stride's phone
pedometer runs only when you choose This phone.

Already using Stride? Install the update, then tap **Settings → Reset step
settings** to apply these defaults. Your history, goals and Premium stay intact.
Classic, Retro and Verdant remain; there's no new theme in this release.

Sync your watch in its companion app before comparing counts. Bluetooth pairing
alone does not send its steps to Health Connect, and sync delays can still happen.

Stride 1.0.9 is almost here 🌿

A quick heads-up before it lands. Starting with this update, Stride's installable APK is registered with Google under Android's new developer verification.

Android now expects every app, including ones shared outside the Play Store, to come from a developer who has signed up with Google. Without it, Stride would eventually stop installing on most phones. Leaving you stuck was never an option, so we've done what's needed.

It isn't quite the Android we fell in love with, where you could build something, share it, and that was enough. But keeping Stride in your hands matters more to us than how we feel about the paperwork. 🙂

What this means for you: nothing changes. Same app, same privacy, no accounts, no tracking. Updates install over your current version as always.

🚀 Stride is coming to Google Play!

We’re finally preparing to launch Stride on the Google Play Store. 💚

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, we can’t publish the final public version immediately, and the full release may take around 1–2 months.

But in the meantime, you can try Stride directly from Google Play for the next 3 weeks — until 22 October 2026 while the app is in Closed Testing.

The version currently available on Google Play is Stride v1.0.9, which is a pre-release testing build. It is not the final Play Store release, so you may encounter a few bugs or unfinished changes while using it.

🚶 Stride v1.0.10 — Looking Glass is out!

This one is all about accurate counts, plus the biggest visual update yet (v1.0.9 never went out on GitHub, so you get both at once).

🎯 More accurate steps
• Watch first: wear a watch or band? Stride now counts from it on days it syncs, and from your phone's own counter otherwise. The two are never added together any more, so no more doubled walks.
• Bus, car and auto rides filtered properly: Accurate step filtering now works with Health Connect too, and catches steps the phone delivers late with the screen off.
• Tested side by side with a CMF watch: Stride matched the watch exactly ✅

✨ New look
• Liquid glass nav bar, and glass cards for Classic and Verdant (Premium)
• 6 app icons to choose from
• Rolling numbers, badge celebrations, bouncy scrolling
• Height in ft/in, weight in lb
• Widgets now use Stride's fonts
• Live Updates show your step count

After updating, check Settings → Step source shows Automatic (the new default). If you picked a source by hand before, it's kept.
