"It is a well known fact that the majority of men today are relatively weak, whereas the struggle for existence demands now more than at any previous epoch that we should all be strong!"

- George Hackenschmidt -
If you're not keeping up with Garage Gym Laird Ross on Facebook, you're missing out.
My older boys are growing towards young teenagers, and parenting gets more challenging.  Gone are the days of - if you do this, you'll get that - type of parenting.

Now we dig into the deeper soil of our children’s hearts -  talking, praying, and teaching more important life lessons.

These are often days of self-reflection.  How are our children mirroring our own character -  or lack thereof?
We should never dwell too much on the things in life we can't control.  It's a great way to miss out on solving the problems that are within our reach.

The last few years have been very hard on my land.  Drought, floods, and freezes back to back have destroyed my once green pasture and turned it to mud.  Because of this and soaring feed and hay prices we've had to come up with new solutions in our ever changing environment.

Our farm is probably the most rewarding now despite the hardships.  We stopped focusing on the things we couldn't control and are making the best out of the rest.

When hard times create strong people, what are the things you can change?  It's all in your hands.
I often think about the Lord’s warning against false shepherds, which He does by making contrasts between the true or good shepherd and the imposter, who He describes as a stranger, a thief, a robber and a  hireling. The true shepherd enters by the door of the sheepfold, which the gatekeeper opens for him, he knows his sheep by name and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. The false shepherd, by contrast, β€œclimbs in by another way”, and the sheep, rather than follow, will flee from him.

Guard yourself against the false promises of the world.  Be a good shepherd of the ones around you that need you the most.  The world is full of ill willed people that seek to lead the ones you love astray.  Educate your children on the harmful ideologies of this age so that they will flee from the false shepherd.  It is your duty to protect your flock.
My wife and I were talking recently about how important my strength/size are to our boys. And I could tell she thought I was exaggerating a bit, putting more emphasis on it than needed, in order to further my β€œhobby”. LOL. So she talked to the boys the other day when I was at work about it, and they totally confirmed it. Which didn’t surprise me, but caught her off guard a bit. The 10-year old said, β€œit’s the shame of a boy to have a weak dad.” Hilarious. Stay strong brothers.
