Open Market Operations
OMOs are activities conducted by a central bank (RBI) to control the supply of money in the economy
Central banks do this by buying and selling government bonds and securities in the open market.
OMO is usually used to control inflation.
Example: the RBI sells government bonds to banks or the public. The buyers (banks or investors) pay money to the RBI for these bonds.
This reduces the amount of cash in the banking system, which helps control inflation by reducing spending in the economy.

MCLR
MCLR is the minimum interest rate a bank is allowed to charge on loans.
It stands for Marginal Cost of Funds Based Lending Rate.
The MCLR system was introduced by the RBI to replace the base rate system.
In the base rate system, banks took time to lower interest rates even after the RBI reduced the repo rate.
Under the MCLR system, banks have to change their loan interest rates quickly whenever the RBI changes its repo rate.
It is mandatory for banks to review and declare their MCLR interest rate every month.
When MCLR changes, the interest rates on loans tied to it also change.
-Lower MCLR: leads to lower interest rates and lower EMIs.
-Higher MCLR: means higher interest rates and higher EMIs.

➣ SEBI will implement an optional T+0 settlement cycle for the top 500 stocks (by market cap as of 31 Dec). Starting on 31 Jan 2025, the rollout will begin with the bottom 100 of the top 500 stocks, adding 100 more stocks in a sequence. All stock brokers will be allowed to have different charges for T+0 and T+1 settlement cycles.
➣ China's trade surplus rose to $97.44 billion in November 2024 (vs $69.45 billion in Nov 2023). Exports rose 6.7%, and imports fell 3.9% annually.
➣ The government has approved the development of a 2,000 MW solar project in Rajasthan with 30% financial assistance from the centre: Ministry for New and Renewable Energy.
➣ Gross NPAs (non-performing assets) for public sector banks stood at Rs 3.16 lakh crore (3.09% of total loans), and for private banks, they stood at Rs 1.34 lakh crore (1.86% of total loans), as of 30 September: Minister of State for Finance.
