How much do we really know about bees, so often when we talk with people about bees, the bee that comes to mind is the honey bee or sometimes the bumble bee, but yet rarely are any solitary bees like simple Masons or Leafcutters even mentioned. It's truly amazing how vast the bee species is. Here is a insert from the book The Solitary Bees, that we love & find so very fascinating:
‘Diversified into a group of seven families, 28 subfamilies, 67 tribes, 529 genera, and over 20,000 described species. There are five times as many bee species as mammal species, and bees outnumber birds three to one. Fish are the only vertebrate group that is comparable in size to bees." (B.Danforth, R. Minckley, J.
