• Through visions of the past within a Shadow Realm, the Traveler learns that 500 years ago, a group of researchers (including Aksinya, Alvis, and Kaschey) at the Hvergelmir Institute were performing forbidden bio-alchemy.

• They were attempting to create a "Proto-Human" (雏原人) to serve as a new ruler for the planet
• The White Tsar himself was an artificial being created by the ancient people of Hyperborea using the flesh of the Primordial Cryo Dragon in an attempt to reach the status of "Nibelung," the King of Dragons
• However, the experiment went out of control, releasing power that transformed all of Snezhnaya into a "holy land of primordial ice".
