cable management is the biggest lie ever sold to us by the tech industry, some suit somewhere decided that if you just buy one more velcro strap, one more cable sleeve, one more set of zip ties, everything will be fine and your desk will look like a battlestation from a youtube thumbnail and you'll finally feel at peace but that's not how it works, that's NEVER how it works, because the moment you finish tidying everything up, the moment you sit back and admire your clean runs and your perfectly routed ethernet and your power cables all neatly bundled together, that is the exact moment your brain decides you need a new peripheral, a new hard drive, a new monitor, SOMETHING, and suddenly there's one rogue cable flopping out the side like it owns the place, and you think okay fine i'll just tuck that one away, but then you pull one cable and three others come loose because they were load-bearing somehow, they were structurally integral to the whole system and now everything is unraveling, and you're three zip ties deep at 1am cutting open the sleeves you spent two hours putting on last weekend because you need to re-route the usb-c that's now half an inch too short, and the worst part, the WORST part, is that cables breed, i'm convinced of it, i had five cables on this desk six months ago and now i have seventeen and i don't even know what three of them do but i'm terrified to remove them in case something stops working, in case the whole setup collapses like a jenga tower held together by prayer and cable ties, and don't even get me started on the back of a rack or a patch panel because that's a different circle of hell entirely, someone before you clearly managed cables with their eyes closed and their hands tied behind their back and left you a rat's nest that takes four hours to untangle and document and re-label, and the moment you're done with THAT, someone submits a change request, a new circuit, a new switch, and now you're pulling new cables through a path that didn't exist before and your beautiful documentation is already out of date, it's already a lie, it never ends, it has never ended, cable management is not a task you complete, it's a condition you manage forever, like a chronic illness with a velcro symptom, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.

mom says we have deepseek at home
👍2
deepseek-v4-pro 75% discount (via deepseek platform, or openrouter + deepseek provider) is here to stay

they also charge 1/10 as much as other inference providers for cached input tokens - based on my token usage for the past month or so on K2.5, cached input tokens make up for vast majority of the cost for agentic workflows, so it's really good shit

did the math and my total spend would hypothetically be 65% lower (!!!) on official API vs third party provider

only downside is that you need to be ok with deepseek training on your data
dgx spark (4TB) for $3420 + $20.63 USD (+ whatever ezbuy charges you to forward it to SG + $4 for ezbuy to take a pic of it for you)

deepseek-v4-flash on my dgx spark cluster keeps getting faster somehow, maybe i'll check back in another week and someone will have figured out how to squeeze another 20% out of it

it's already faster than, or nearly as fast as, >30% of the providers on openrouter for ds-v4-flash
the ssd abuse shall continue until morale improves :3

the connectx-7 NICs in my dgx sparks use ~20W apiece at idle, so i'm gonna try clustering them over 10G Ethernet instead of 200G Ethernet, wish me luck

recently Nvidia/Microsoft/ARM have been going on about some shit about a "new era of PC" dropping soon, and it looks like it's just Nvidia GB10 (like in the DGX Spark) for laptops

here's some free BPA. do it. just fuck your shit up. thanks pinduoduo

something cool: Yantai University apparently has a thing with China Mobile where students/staff can use their own 5G connections to access the school intranet (without a separate VPN)

it's summer, so the europeans are starting to discover air conditioners (or heat pumps, whatever you like to call it) again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
and it's really stupid that they're still so AC-averse, because they can install balcony solar easily, AND their electricity prices go negative precisely when the sun is shining the brightest and the weather is the hottest
