ok it works now π after like 5 days of troubleshooting i found out that my ISP is pushing incorrect configs, and somehow the stock ONT just ignores the incorrect params
i'd like to wish whoever did this a very happy bad day or whatever
but now i no longer need any separate ONTs for my internet connections, so i'm a happy camper

honorable mention to:
- ITU-T G.988 (11/2022) ONU OMCI specification
- hack-gpon.org and random people on the internet who have poked around with this in the past
- nokia for making it so easy to root their ONT
- this nice dude on Discord wrote the 8311 community fw and helped me out with this shit
- everyone else at home for bearing with my running around the house to unplug and replug shit into my router
- ???

swapped out the ufiber-instant for the huawei MA5671A (with a funny chinese OpenWRT firmware), and now i'm able to link up to the ONU stick at 2.5Gbps well, it could be better, I guess? not sure if i'm being bottlenecked by this cheap-ass ISP, or by the ONUβ¦
they also had a scheduled maintenance event today, i guess they fixed it or something?
kind of insane how my 5G broadband is half the price of a 100mbps fiber broadband plan, except i get 800mbps over 5G (AND double the upload bandwidth i would've otherwise gotten), but i'm not going to complain

next project: porting openwrt onto a GlocalMe SIMBOX so I can avoid using their crap ass software
this thing is basically a box that takes in up to 4 SIM cards, and connects up to 2 at any time over LTE so that you can send/receive SMSes (and calls) remotely
it's got a MT7688 + some random dual-sim LTE modem, possibly connected over USB
the MT76xx SoCs are pretty well supported on OpenWrt so I'm hoping it wouldn't be too painful to get OpenWrt on it, because writing something to replace the existing functionality sounds like it might just be a bit more painful

kinda silly story about these ATAs: (they're analog telephone adapters, basically thingies that let you plug in landline phones and/or landlines, and hook it up to VoIP services/SIP servers, etc)
I bought one off eBay many years ago, and they sent me the wrong model (an OBi202, with two phone "FXS" ports)
seller sent me the correct one (an OBi212, with a line "FXO" port and a phone FXS port)
it disappeared in my house, so I had to pick another one up
ended up working on a bunch of other stupid things and forgot all about this, but found all three when i moved

spent the last 4 hours going on a wild goose chase trying to figure out what the hell is happening here, only to end up figuring out that someone submitted a patch a month ago to fix my issue lmao
