something cool: Yantai University apparently has a thing with China Mobile where students/staff can use their own 5G connections to access the school intranet (without a separate VPN)

and it's really stupid that they're still so AC-averse, because they can install balcony solar easily, AND their electricity prices go negative precisely when the sun is shining the brightest and the weather is the hottest
i wish i could install balcony solar easily, then my 500W of servers would hurt a lot less lmfao
tp-link offering 40% off on wifi 7 APs and multi-gig/PoE switches if you send in a picture of your old networking gear with serial numbers
tempting...
(also free 8-port unmanaged GbE switch if you buy more than $299 USD of crap)

decided to vibe code some bullshit today (a wysiwyg receipt editor that also gives you the ESC/POS bytes to print on a receipt printer)
i gotta say, this is very impressive for a single prompt on a model that runs locally (*), it's generally functional and i see no major issues

PTM7950 phase-change thermal pads for the GB10 and the ConnectX-7 NIC, they're supposed to liquefy above 45 degrees
Upsiren UTP-8 thermal putty for the VRAM... I guess it's just a squishy thermal pad alternative. LPDDR5x ain't getting that hot anyway
previously, I would have the CPU hitting 96 degrees while the GPU eats 60W. now the CPU stays at 90 degrees even when the GPU is pulling 100W, so I guess it's working great (even though I'm supposed to thermal cycle it a few times first)
now i probably won't have overheat shutdowns when my room hits 38 degrees ambient

used deepseek-v4-flash-0731 to write an app for my camera (to basically sync photos to my server) and it basically worked on the first try
you can use this model for FREE btw. why would you even bother using sonnet or gemini (or some dude off fiverr) at this point
