Noun gender in Russian.

Russian nouns have three grammatical genders: masculine, feminine, and neuter. Each gender has its own set of inflectional endings that are used to indicate case and number.

Masculine nouns typically refer to male persons, animals, or objects, and they end in consonants (except for мягкий знак "ь") or -й.

Feminine nouns typically refer to female persons, animals, or objects, and they end in -а, -я, -ица, or -ь.

Neuter nouns typically refer to objects or concepts that are not inherently masculine or feminine, and they end in -о, -е, or -мя.

Examples 🤍:

--- Feminine - Женский род (zhénskiy rod):
- пчела (pchelá) - bee
- земля (zemlyá) - earth
- любовь (lubóv') - love

--- Masculine - Мужской род (muzhskóy rod):

We already had a post about how rearranging words in some phrases changes its meaning to the opposite.

You can read about it here - https://t.me/std_rus/180.

Let's consider a new phrase with the same property!

"Не надо меня уговаривать" and "Меня не надо уговаривать"

Let's look at the translation of these words separately:

Не (ne) - Not

Надо (náda) - Need

Меня (menyá) - Me

Уговаривать (ugavárivat') - Persuade

Try to guess in the comments which phrase means "yes" and which means "no"🤍

For example:

I will start! The first word is дерево (tree)!
