Luc Montagnier discovered HIV. In a 2010 interview he said;
"Nobody has completely isolated the virus". He goes on to say "For us it's not important that we haven't isolated it. But some people say if we don't have a pure virus, how do we know HIV isn't caused by something else?"
Interviewer: When you are trying to purify HIV there are some challenges because the sample is contaminated with cellular debris?
Luc Montagnier: Like I said.
Interviewer: And cellular debris particles are in there that look like retroviruses but are not infective?
Luc Montagnier: Yes, like I said.
Interviewer: How do you distinguish between what particle is infective and what isn't?
Luc Montagnier: You cannot.
Interviewer: Does an electron microscope image help you distinguish between what is what?
Luc Montagnier: No.
