I DON'T TRUST THIS.
It seems like a bid for control of the Overton window surrounding this debate.
It's a good sign that they feel that they are so unable to get ahead of it that they are assimilating it into the conversation, but the assimilation of it into the overall conversation is also a bad sign because it is a bid to control the argument.
The points being made from here on out had better be solid and the people carrying this message had better on the up and up: THE WORLD IS WATCHING. AND WE DON'T TRUST YOU.

This cute little twist of the knife is to shame/dissuade anyone involved in this debate from putting skepticism forward in public.
All the more reason to put skepticism forward in public: WHERE WERE YOU THE PAST FEW YEARS?
Why are you coming forward NOW?
Because THIS IS THE TRUTH and you can't get ahead of it.
