Q1/ he syllable has a center
which has little or no obstruction to airflow, and which is comparatively
loud. It is preceded and/or followed by greater obstruction to airflow (i.e.
there are consonants).

Phonologically, (distribution of consonants and vowels) syllables
have possible combinations of phonemes. The study of possible
combinations of phonemes is called phonotactics.

Types of syllables (4)
1- Minimal syllable ( a single vowel) V
e.g. I (one vowel) (contains only a vowel)
2- Has an onset CV
e.g. Too / tu: / (one syllable) (one vowel) (starts with a consonant)
3- Has a coda VC
e.g. At /æt/ (one syllable) (one vowel) (ends with a consonant)
4- Some syllables have both onset and coda CVC
e.g. Cat /k æ t / (one syllable) (one vowel) (starts and ends with
consonants)
