Type of Aircraft Wings ( part 3 )
7. Swept Back Wings
●These types of wings are mainly used by commercial aeroplanes..
●The main advantage is better performance at transonic speed(speed near to the speed of sound)
8. Forward-Swept Wings
◆Forward-swept wings make an aircraft harder to fly, but the advantages are mainly down to manoeuvrability
◆They maintain airflow over their surfaces at steeper climb angles than conventional planes, which means the nose can point higher without the aircraft going into a dangerous stall
◆Ability to fly at Transonic flight
9. Variable Sweep Wings
●This type of wing is a combination of both swept wing and unswept wing. Where Swept wings are mostly suitable for high speeds, like supersonic and transonic, while unswept wings work best for low speeds( subsonic).

Aerofoils and the Forces of Flying:
-Humans have learned flying from birds The wing shape of birds and planes is called an aerofoil shape.
•The aerofoil helps Planes to overcome weight which is the effect of gravity.
•The upward force is also known as the lift. The aerofoil produces it. This is the upward force required to overcome gravity, being produced by a wing as it moves through the air. This action allows the object to lift and push forward
•Drag is the force which slows down the plane, which is the resistance to airflow and consequently slows the progress of an aircraft through the air, arising from disturbing the air as it moves through it, and from the skin friction due to the viscosity or 'stickiness of the air. The drag force is opposite to the flight path
•Thrust is the forward force required to move an aircraft through the air, overcoming drag (and providing sufficient speed for a wing to develop enough lift to fly). This must be provided by an engine, by gravity (glider, sailplane)

How do we control the flight?
-Control of an aircraft is on three axes: yaw, pitch and roll.
●Rudder controls Yawing (left/right)
●Elevators control pitching (nose up/down)
●Ailerons control rolling
Bernoulli's principle:
-Air, like water, is a fluid; however, unlike water, which is a liquid, the air is a gaseous substance. Air is considered a fluid because it flows and can take on different shapes.
-Bernoulli said that it is the shape of the wings which helps aircraft to achieve lift. They are shaped so that that air flows faster over the top of the wing and slower underneath. Fast-moving air equals the low air pressure, while slow-moving air equals high air pressure. The high air pressure underneath the wings will, therefore, push the aircraft up through the lower air pressure.

Why the Suez Canal is very Important?
◆The construction of Suez canal was began in 1859 and it took 10 years and 1.5 million laborers. One ship blocked the canal now. The tremors can be felt all over the world's maritime commerce.
✔️Suez Canal Blockade
●Ever Given (container of ship of Japanese Shipping company Evergreen)—a container ship with 400 meter long, which is longer than the Eiffel Tower — has been grounded sideways in Egypt’s Suez Canal, where it is blocking all other ships from passing through the canal resulting in delays in shipment and huge loss to global trade.
✔️About Suez Canal and its Importance
●The canal is in Egypt, that connects Port Said on the Mediterranean Sea to the Indian Ocean via the Egyptian city of Suez on the Red Sea. The passage allows for more direct shipping between Europe and Asia, without having to circumnavigate Africa and shortening the journey time by days or weeks.
●It is strategic to global trade especially trade between Europe and Asia.
●Although the canal was designed to handle much smaller vessels at first, its channels have been widened and deepened several times.
✔️Impact of Suez canal Blockade
◆The blockade is estimated a global loss of about $ 9 Billion dollars every day. Because, 80% of global trade works on hub-and-spoke model, i.e. “actually are routed via other countries hub ports".
◆It reduces the transportation cost and oil cost etc.
◆Costs for companies shipping goods will also rise.
◆Loss to businesses due to delays caused in shipping (cancel some shipments etc.).
◆Salvagers have already tried a number of remedies to pull the ship out with tugboats, dredging underneath the hull and using a front-end loader to excavate the eastern embankment, where the ship is stuck. But all their efforts to pull the ship has failed.
◆Expert believed that a seasonal high tide on Sunday or Monday could add approximately 18 inches of depth to the canal, which would potentially help float the ship.

An antidote to Islamophobia, within and beyond
✔️Context
●Islamist terror is a major international issue today.
●UN ‘Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief’ flagged the “epidemic proportions” of anti-Muslim hatred and the member states responded by adopting measures which disproportionately targeted Muslims and thus they were at risk of radicalization”.
✔️Exploring the reasons
◆Over the last couple of years, the spread of Islamophobia across the globe has been so rampant that Springer, one of the world’s leading scientific publishers, published a volume in 2019 titled Islamophobia and Psychiatry: Recognition, Prevention, and Treatment.
◆Islamophobia is defined as an “unreasonable dislike or fear of, and prejudice against, Muslims or Islam.”
◆However, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on British Muslims (APPG) equates Islamophobia with racism that targets expressions of Muslimness or perceived Muslimness.
◆APPG has views similar to those of Frantz Fanon, an anti-colonial writer and psychoanalyst, who mentioned Islamophobia as an expression of religious racism of the colonising West.
✔️The West’s fear
●In reality, the West’s fear of Islam or Muslims has nothing to do with religion and instead it's based on cultural frictions and political rivalries.
●Even in India, the tussle for power made people like Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, Chandranath Basu, Lala Lajpat Rai, and Bhai Parmanand suspect the Muslims.
●It was Bankim Chandra Chatterjee who fictionalised Hindu nationalistic sentiments in Anandmath by exaggerating how “everyone was angry with the Muslims for the anarchy and lawlessness of their reign”, in the early 1900s.
●Similarly, Rai and Parmanand spread the idea of territorially separating Hindus and Muslims even before Jinnah imagined Pakistan.
●Even B.R. Ambedkar was not sure of the political stability of an undivided India. He was in favour of a separate Muslim state, as undivided India would have to contend with 65 million Muslims, while after its creation, this number would fall to 20 million, which would help in reducing the proportion of Muslim to Hindu seats in central and provincial legislatures and the seats shall be further reduced once weightage was cancelled.
●Thus it’s the fear of Muslim numbers due to which various Indian states have enacted laws against “love-jihad” and are taking raucous calls for a population regulation law to “tackle the problem of declining Hindu population and to stop the rise of non-Hindu population, i.e Muslims.
✔️The Muslim contribution
◆Even after seven decades of Partition, anti-Muslim sentiments instead of vanishing continues to surge in India.
◆Though the Indian Modi government is of the view that Indian Muslims will live and die for India. They will not want anything bad for India.” Anti-Muslim sentiments are still high in the country.
◆One of the reasons for such sentiments may be no action taken by Muslim religious leaders to encourage the community to win the trust of other people, for peaceful coexistence.
◆Unlike a political trust, which is formed on the suspicion that the powerful will be tempted to abuse power, social trust is based on the optimistic thinking that although people may follow different religions or secular ideologies, they have common fundamental values.
◆However, the Muslim population failed to build social trust.
◆The Muslim population condemned the illegal demolition of the Babri Masjid as an act of religious extremism but remained a silent spectator when a Hindu temple was burnt down in Pakistan, and when Pakistan’s Supreme Court ordered its reconstruction, it was opposed by Muslim religious organization.
◆Even in the West, The unIslamic conversion of the Hagia Sophia in Islamabad into a mosque was greeted with support.
