VISIT OF H.E. MR SUH WOOK, MINISTER OF NATIONAL DEFENCE, REPUBLIC OF KOREA TO INDIA

◆As part of increasing bilateral defence cooperation between India and the Republic of Korea, Mr Suh Wook, the Hon'ble Minister of National Defence, Republic of Korea, will be visiting India from 25 to 27 March 2021.

◆The Hon'ble Minister will interact with a number of senior Indian dignitaries over the course of his visit and discuss issues of strategic nature.

◆Mr Suh Wook will pay his respects at the National War Memorial on 26 March 2021, which will be followed by his inauguration of the Indo-Korean Bilateral Friendship Park in Delhi Cantonment.

◆The Park commemorates the contribution of Indian peacekeepers during the Korean War and is a testament to the strong relations between the two countries. The Hon'ble Minister will be accorded a Tri Services Guard of Honour at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan followed by interaction with the Hon'ble Raksha Mantri.

◆The Hon'ble Minister will proceed to Agra on 27 March 2021 and witness the operational capabilities of the Parachute Brigade at Agra. The Hon'ble Minister will also visit and interact with personnel of 60 Para Field Hospital, which was actively involved in providing medical aid to United Nations and South Korean personnel during the Korean War. The actions of these Maroon Angels cemented Indo-Korean friendship further. The Hon'ble Minister is scheduled to return later in the evening.

❗️Meditation as a Hobby

◆Meditation has no universal definition as such. Different practitioners preach different ways. Meditation is practiced in following forms:

✔️by paying attention to the breath, to an idea or feeling (such as loving-kindness), to a kōan, or to a mantra (like transcendental meditation), and
✔️single point meditation
✔️vipasana method (no-thoughts)
✔️mindfulness method etc.

●It is mainly to train attention and awareness, and attain a mentally clear, emotionally calm and stable state of mind (i.e. an altered state of consciousness).

●It is claimed to be very powerful in realizing one's aspirations and achieving great things that are otherwise not possible for a normal human being.

●Meditation is also known as Dhyana. The earliest records of meditation were found in the Vedas, the ancient Hindu text. Buddhism and Jainism are also popular for meditation. 

●Meditation on health (psychological, neurological, and cardiovascular) and other areas.

●Meditation may significantly reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and pain, and enhance peace, perception, self-concept, and well-being. Studies are ongoing to better understand the impact of meditation on health (psychological, neurological, and cardiovascular) and other areas.

●An officer, who practice meditation daily will balance work life and personal life happily and contribute to social development.

❗️Yoga as a Hobby

◆Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines. It is originated in ancient India.

◆Yoga is one of the six philosophical schools of Hinduism.

◆Yoga is mentioned in the Rigveda and Katho upanishads and Bhagavad Gita as well.

◆There is different schools of practices of yoga in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.

◆The earliest text was by the Pathanjali (Yoga sutras)

Why Turkey Separated from the Istanbul Convention?

✔️Context

◆Recently Turkish President Rechap Tayyip Ergoan has taken his country out of the "Istanbul Convention" related to women safety. Since then, a series of protests have started in Turkey, ranging from ordinary women to human rights organizations.

✔️Major Issues

●In favour of the exit from the Istanbul Convention, Turkish President Rechap Tayyip Ergoan has argued that such an agreement is going to break the house and increase the divorce case. It may be noted that Turkey has witnessed an increase in the cases of murder and divorce of women in the last year.

●The same Turkish family and labour minister Zahra Zamrut said that "the rights of women are guaranteed in our laws, especially in our constitution. Our judicial system is dynamic and strong in terms of enforcing the rules and regulations made when required "|

●The government's decision by Turkish civil society is seen as succumbing to radical pressure as conservative fundamentalists believe that the compromise undermines family structures, while radicals oppose gender equality.

●Social activists are considering this agreement as important to deal with the increasing domestic violence in Turkey and are demanding to keep up with it.

●In addition, the Convention calls for the LGBT community to demand equal rights and wider acceptance in society, which has become a major concern for the Turkish conservative government.

❗️What is the Istanbul Convention?

◆The Istanbul Convention is an international agreement that was held in the Turkish capital of Istanbul in the year 2011. It is known that this agreement was implemented in the year 2014.

◆In this agreement, in 2011, 47 countries including Turkey signed an agreement.

◆Under this agreement, all member countries had to ensure that women do not become second class citizens in their country and women have equal rights to men.

◆The Istanbul Convention entrusts government officials with the responsibility of taking steps to prevent sexual violence against women, protect victims and prosecute criminals.
