Land portions from 10 cantonment boards to be merged with concerned State local bodies
► Military areas within cantonments will be converted into "exclusive military stations with complete army control.
Reasons for Move:
1. Undo the colonial legacy, and usher in governance reforms.
2. Civilians living in cantonments will get access to more welfare schemes of the respective state governments.
3. Help defence forces focus on strengthening their security, simplifying their land management, and preventing encroachments.
4. Reduce the strain on the annual defence budget.
~ About Cantonments
An area where military troops are garrisoned and is primarily dedicated to housing soldiers. However, civilian populations are also present.
Genesis: Established by East India Company after the battle of Plassey in 1757.
Barrackpore (Calcutta) was first Cantonment established in 1765.
✔️Currently , there are 61 cantonments in India (6 established after independence).
Administration: Local self-government of the cantonments is the subject matter of the Union Government (Entry 3 of Union List)
Cantonments are administered under the Cantonments Act, 2006 in accordance with the 74th Constitutional Amendment Act.
• Cantonments are administered by Cantonment Boards, which perform civic duties such as providing public health, water supply, primary education, etc.
• Under administrative control of the Ministry of Defence.
• Cantonment's Station Commander is the Board's ex-officio President.

Tips to Write a Good Story:
👉As the photo is hazy, try to concentrate on two things - Background and the number of characters. The background would help you give an idea about the characters like if the background is rural, then you can identify the majority of characters as villagers or if the background is urban then you can identify the majority of characters living in urban areas.
👉The character which you see first should be identified as the central character and the story should be weaved around it.
👉When the number of characters is huge, then identify 2-3 prominent characters and choose a central character amongst them.
👉Before starting with the story take some time to frame the action of the story. It is basically the theme of the story which is seen by you in the picture.
👉Divide your story into 3 parts - The background explaining details of central character, what led to the picture, what is the possible outcome. These 3 parts should have 4 lines each. Keeping these 3 parts will help you in framing a better story within the given time frame.
👉After seeing the picture, take 30 seconds extra instead of starting immediately writing the story. Arrange your ideas, theme and after framing a sequence you can jot them down in story form.
👉Make sure that, the story which you write should inculcate the picture shown. This means that the story should be relevant to the picture shown.
👉The central character of your story should have a name and should portray traits which would be shown by you.
👉The story should be realistic and possible for a normal person to perform that are mentioned by you in the story.
👉Write the story in past tense. It should be short, crisp and to the point.

Things to take care in PPDT:
👉Don’t write any preconceived story that you read in various books. The assessors will easily come to know about these kinds of the story because they are not relevant from the picture shown and lack originality.
👉Do not write impractical stories like a person who is practicing for school tournaments suddenly wins the Olympics later.
👉Many students have ideas that if they write positive stories then they will definitely get recommended, it is not true as the assessors test the candidate on the basis of the picture. If the picture is depicting negative trait then this means the assessors have put it on purpose.
👉It is also highly recommended to adopt a logical order, as it would show Organising ability.
👉Ensure that whatever you write should be neat, legible and without any cuts or mistakes. It shows the clarity of thoughts.
👉Listen to the instructions which are given by the assessors as sometimes they check whether a student has gone to coaching and reproducing the same or not. It is highly recommended to pay attention and follow the instructions accordingly.

Role of Sports in Aspirational India[1/2]
✓A sound mind lies in a sound body. There is growing evidence that sports act as a catalyst for the development of personal and social skills among youngsters.
✓The potential of sports to be considered as a career option gives rise to the question of its position and preference compared to other conventional career alternatives.
✓Pursuing sports as a career face numerous obstacles in India, including socioeconomic, linguistic, cultural, dietary habits, societal taboos, and gender bias that hinder a huge chunk of India’s young aspiring population to continue their passion for sports.
✓There is a need to reshape sports governance in India and look forwards towards democratisation of sports culture.
‼️What are the Current Challenges Related to the Sports Sector in India?
🔹Lack of Parental Push: In India most families pressurise their children to outshine in academics and work hard towards becoming an Engineer, Doctors or successful entrepreneur.
✓The underlying feeling is that sports do not fetch a decent livelihood or make one wealthy.
🔹Social and Economic Inequalities: Social and economic inequalities have a negative impact on Indian sport.
✓Denial of access to sports infrastructure due to poverty, concentration of stadiums and other sports avenues only in cities, lack of encouragement to girls to participate in sports, etc, have impaired the development of a positive sports culture in the country.
🔹Policy Lacunae: For the development of any sector, formulation and execution of an effective policy is a sine qua non.
This is true for sports also.
✓Till date, the sports policy planning and implementation is centralised in the country due to the paucity of resources, this has led to many incidents like IPL Spot Fixing, Olympic Games bidding scam, Sexual harassment incidents in women’s hockey teams.
🔹Corruption and Mismanagement of Sports Authorities: Corruption has become synonymous with sports administration in India.
✓Whether it is the most popular cricket or hockey or weightlifting, most of the sports authorities in India have come under attack due to corruption charges.
✓Besides, the involvement of politicians in the administration of sports bodies for a very long period and controversies surrounding the 2010 Commonwealth Games, dented the image of sports administrators in India.
🔹Use of Performance Enhancing Drugs: Use of performance enhancing drugs is still a major problem in the sports sector. India ranks first when it comes to Anti-Doping Rule Violations or the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Adverse Analytical Findings.
✓This problem still needs to be addressed effectively, despite the creation of the National Anti Doping Agency in the country.
🔹Empty Playgrounds: Modern technology and video games have distracted children from playing physical games. Today many children are on their mobile phones instead of playing with their friends on the playground.
✓Due to this the young children are becoming susceptible to many diseases at an early age, like diabetes and hypertension.
