INDIAN JUDICIARY
👨‍⚖️⚖️

Structure & Role

* The Indian judiciary is organised in three primary tiers:
1. Supreme Court at the national level.
2. High Courts for each state or group of states/territories.
3. District and subordinate courts beneath the High Courts (civil courts, sessions courts, magistrates, etc).
* The Supreme Court was established on 26 January 1950 (after India’s Constitution came into force).
* Under the Constitution, the judiciary is an independent branch of government, tasked with interpreting law, safeguarding rights and resolving disputes.
* As of recent data, the sanctioned strength and actual judge-to-population ratios show large gaps. For example, in High Courts there were many vacant positions (e.g., as of August 2022, about 380 out of 1108 sanctioned High Court judge posts were vacant).

🔍 Key Facts & Indicators

* Currently, there are 25 or more High Courts in India (some states have combined jurisdictions).
* The judge-population ratio in High Courts works out to about 1 judge per 18 million people in one noted estimate.
* The Supreme Court functions not just as an appellate body, but also under its original jurisdiction has powers for writs and constitutional matters (for example, under Article 32 of the Constitution).

⚠️ Challenges & Issues

* Case backlog and delays: The system is heavily burdened; many cases wait years for resolution, which undermines the principle of “justice delayed is justice denied”.
* Vacancies: A substantial number of judge-posts in High Courts and subordinate courts remain unfilled, affecting access and speed of justice.
* Appointment process & perceived lack of transparency: The “collegium system” — wherein senior judges select new judges — has been criticised for opaque functioning, limited representation and concerns of nepotism.
* Impact on investor confidence & institutional predictability: For example, a 2025 decision by the Supreme Court to nullify a major corporate resolution deal raised concerns about legal certainty and timelines in commercial cases.

🧮 Why It Matters

* The judiciary is vital for upholding rule of law, protecting fundamental rights, and providing a check on the executive and legislature.
* Efficiency, independence and transparency of the judiciary affect not just citizen rights but also business climate, investment, dispute resolution and public trust.
* Improvement in judge-to-population ratio, reduction in vacancies, greater speed in disposal, enhanced transparency in appointments all contribute to greater access to justice.

Birthday celebration with my favourite students.

In 2021 when I started R2R, I had a lot of skepticism whether I’ll do well or what will happen in the future.

4 years later and 400 recommendations later, here we are with such priceless students.

पैसे कमाना नहीं लोग कमाने ज़रूरी है

Big thanks to Hitesh, Aryan and Pushpendra who planned this!

From a BTech graduate to JCO entry to securing AIR 9 in SCO Entry 57.

Being a BTech graduate, corporate life seemed like a lucrative option for Shyaam.
When the pandemic hit and he lost his job, he took it as an opportunity to pursue a career in the defence forces. The motivation came from his father, who served in the Army, and from his own experience as an NCC cadet.

As a fresher, R2R helped him understand every stage of the SSB process with complete guidance. Since he was already in service and had limited time, he relied on our recorded lectures and got his doubts cleared on weekends.

This clarity helped him get recommended in his first attempt, securing AIR 9 in SCO.

India’s Neighbourhood Policy
1 AFSB Dehradun

You can change friends but not neighbours.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee

1. Introduction

India’s neighbourhood policy refers to its diplomatic, economic, and security approach toward countries in its immediate region — primarily SAARC and Indian Ocean neighbours. Guided by the principle of “Neighborhood First”, India aims to promote regional stability, economic integration, and mutual development. As the largest country in South Asia, India plays a key role in shaping peace, connectivity, and cooperation in the region.

2. Key Principles of India’s Neighbourhood Policy

* Priority to Immediate Neighbours: Bilateral and regional cooperation with countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Myanmar.
* Economic and Development Partnership: Connectivity projects, energy sharing, and trade support.
* Security Cooperation: Counter-terrorism, maritime security, and defense training.
* Respect for Sovereignty: Non-interference in internal affairs and promoting peaceful dialogue.
* Humanitarian Support: Quick assistance during natural disasters and crises.

3. Major Components of the Policy

* Connectivity Projects:

* BBIN Motor Vehicle Agreement (Bangladesh–Bhutan–India–Nepal).
* Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Project (with Myanmar).
* India–Nepal cross-border railway lines.

* Energy and Power Cooperation:

* Hydropower projects with Bhutan and Nepal.
* Electricity, LNG, and petroleum supply to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

* Trade and Economic Integration:

* Bangladesh is India’s largest trading partner in South Asia.
* Expansion of border haats (markets) with Bangladesh and Nepal.
* Support through lines of credit to Sri Lanka, Maldives, and others.

* Security and Defence:

* Joint military exercises like Maitree, Surya Kiran, Mitra Shakti, and Sampriti.
* Maritime surveillance in the Indian Ocean.
* Support to Sri Lanka and Maldives for coastal security.

4. Recent Developments (2024–2025)

* India’s humanitarian support to Sri Lanka during its economic crisis strengthened goodwill.
* Maldives political tensions tested India’s “Neighbourhood First” approach.
* Expanding cooperation with Bangladesh in digital governance and connectivity.
* India’s involvement in Myanmar limited due to its internal conflict, but border security coordination continues.
* Strengthened ties with Bhutan through hydropower and digital payment systems (UPI integration).

5. Challenges

* China’s Growing Influence: Infrastructure investments in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Maldives through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) challenge India’s strategic space.
* Political Instability: Frequent government changes in neighbourhood countries impact bilateral policies.
* Border Issues: Occasional tensions with Nepal and Bangladesh regarding demarcation.
* Terrorism and Cross-Border Security Issues: Particularly from Pakistan.
* Economic Competition: Smaller nations sometimes seek balance by engaging both India and China.

6. Way Forward

* Strengthen regional connectivity through roads, railways, and digital links.
* Deepen economic integration with free trade agreements and cross-border energy grids.
* Promote people-to-people ties through education, tourism, and healthcare partnerships.
* Enhance maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean.
* Counter China’s influence through sustainable, transparent, and people-centric development projects.

7. Conclusion

India’s neighbourhood policy aims at building a peaceful, prosperous, and cooperative South Asia. A stable neighbourhood is essential for India’s growth and global aspirations. By promoting connectivity, development, and mutual trust, India seeks to lead the region toward shared progress and long-term stability.

According to your opinion, what's the best way to improve the Indian judiciary system?

1. Reforms
2. Technology
3. Infrastructure

Introduction:

The Indian judiciary, though one of the oldest and most respected institutions, suffers from a huge pendency of cases (over 4.5 crore as of 2024), delayed justice, and accessibility issues. While all three measures are essential, the most impactful and urgent need is judicial reforms — as they directly address procedural inefficiencies, outdated systems, and structural gaps.

1) Reforms

* Case Backlog Crisis: As per the National Judicial Data Grid, over 4.5 crore cases are pending, including more than ...

113+ recommended in 2025.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RyB6atgInVOp_4rbR3VaeSPttYiqhF1scE5qQ7tVFMM/edit?usp=sharing

Back in 2021, we had just 12 recommendations in a year. Today, in 2025, that number has jumped to 113+.

Jaha doosri coaching institutes abhi tak 100+ recommendations tak nahi pahunch paayi, waha R2R ne sirf 2025 me hi 113+ recommendations diye hai.

Our growth has been possible because our motto has always been simple —
1. Small batches
2. Individual attention

We take the time to understand every student, their behaviour, and the way they think, and we guide them to connect with their true personality. And most importantly, we value every doubt, no matter how small. This personalised approach is the reason why almost 40% of students from every batch end up getting recommended.

GD Topic: With the AQI continuously rising in Delhi and surrounding regions, what is the most effective solution?
Leads:
1️⃣ Strict Law Enforcement & Regulation
2️⃣ Public Awareness & Behavioural Change
3️⃣ Technological & Policy Interventions

Lead A: Strict Law Enforcement & Regulation
📌 Key Arguments:

1. Industrial & Vehicular Control: Many industries continue to violate emission norms; enforcing tighter monitoring and penalties can significantly reduce PM2.5 and PM10 levels.
2. Construction Dust: Nearly 30% of Delhi’s pollution during winter comes from construction dust; strict site monitoring and real-time surveillance is essential.
3. Crop Burning Enforcement: Stubble burning in Punjab–Haryana contributes up to 40% of Delhi’s pollution on peak days; enforcing penalties and supporting alternatives is crucial.
4. Transport Restrictions: Odd–Even, GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan), and truck-entry bans work only when strictly monitored.
5. Corruption & Loopholes: Many violations go unchecked; improving enforcement capacity makes regulations meaningful.

🧠 Supporting Example:
During the 2020 lockdown, strict restrictions reduced Delhi’s AQI from 300+ to under 50 in many regions—showing the immediate impact of enforcement.

Lead B: Public Awareness & Behavioural Change
📌 Key Arguments:

1. Lifestyle Emissions: Household waste burning, firecrackers, and private vehicle use directly add to particulate levels.
2. Shared Responsibility: Citizens need awareness of how daily choices—idling vehicles, biomass burning, waste mismanagement—affect AQI.
3. Sustained Pressure: Public awareness campaigns push governments and industries to enforce cleaner norms.
4. Mass Adoption: Carpooling, using public transport, electric vehicles, and avoiding crackers require widespread behavioural change.
5. Children & Schools: School-based campaigns lead to long-term behavioural transformation in families.

🧠 Supporting Example:
After large-scale awareness drives, cities like Bengaluru and Pune saw 20–30% increase in public transport adoption over the years.

Lead C: Technological & Policy Interventions
📌 Key Arguments:

1. Smog Towers & Air Purifiers: Though temporary, these reduce pollution hotspots in dense areas.
2. EV Transition & Cleaner Fuel: Delhi’s EV policy led to 16% of all new vehicles being electric in 2023—the highest among Indian states.
3. Crop Stubble Solutions: Machines like Happy Seeder, bio-decomposers, and crop diversification policies reduce farm fires significantly.
4. Green Infrastructure: Urban forests, green rooftops, and carbon capture technologies offer long-term structural reduction in emissions.
5. Policy Roadmaps: Long-term air quality plans like the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) aim for a 20–30% reduction in PM levels across major cities.

🧠 Supporting Example:
Delhi’s introduction of BS-VI fuel in 2019 cut vehicular SO2 and NOx emissions drastically compared to BS-IV norms.

Conclusion (Opinion):
Although public awareness and law enforcement are essential, the most effective and sustainable solution is Technological & Policy Interventions. They provide structural, scalable, and long-term improvements—addressing root causes like fuel quality, agricultural practices, mobility patterns, and industrial emissions. With consistent enforcement and citizen support, technology-driven policies can transform Delhi’s air quality for future generations.
