St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College Celebrates World Hand Hygiene Day

St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) successfully held a Hand Hygiene Campaign today in observance of World Hand Hygiene Day.

The event saw active participation from staff and leadership, and was officially opened by Dr. Sena Dugasa, Ato Jemal Shiefa, and Dr. Wuletaw Chane.

Dr. Bethelehem Tebebe, Director of Infection Prevention and Patient Safety, highlighted the crucial role of hand hygiene in preventing infections and ensuring patient safety. The campaign aligns with the national strategy to reduce disease and enhance healthcare quality.

World Hand Hygiene Day, observed globally each year, promotes hand hygiene as a simple but powerful tool in infection prevention.

SPHMMC extended its gratitude to Taza Detergent for sponsoring the campaign and supporting public health initiatives. The college also thanked all staff members for their active involvement in fostering a culture of hygiene and safety.
St. Paul Hospital to Host Ethiopia’s First-Ever National Spine Treatment Facility.

In a landmark moment for the nation's healthcare system, the Ministry of Health, in partnership with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), officially launched the construction of the National Spine Center at St. Paul Hospital Millennium Medical College.

For nearly two decades, JDC has supported Ethiopian patients with severe spinal deformities, often facilitating complex, life-changing surgeries abroad. The new center marks a transformative step—bringing that critical care home. Ethiopian spine surgeons, trained through JDC-supported programs, will lead the center, providing advanced, specialized treatment locally for the first time.

The National Spine Center is expected to serve as strengthening Ethiopia’s healthcare infrastructure and reducing the need for medical travel abroad.
