▫️Uruguay: Prosecutor calls Senator Penadés "one of the country's biggest sexual predators" during court hearing
Former senator Gustavo Penadés will continue to be remanded in custody until the start of his trial, scheduled for October 10, Judge Marcela Vargas ruled on Thursday. Penadés is charged with dozens of crimes related to sexual abuse and exploitation of minors, and has been detained since October 2023.
“I would dare to say that Penadés must be one of the biggest sexual predators that has ever existed in the history of our country,” the prosecutor said in an unusually blunt comment. In the same judicial instance, Fabricio Fernandez, an inmate linked to maneuvers to obtain information in the case, was also sentenced. He was convicted of bribery and was sentenced to three months imprisonment, already served on remand.

Three people have been arrested The PDI said that at this stage of the investigation the number of victims has not yet been established.
The Aysén Regional Prosecutor's Office and the Investigative Police are investigating a case of child sexual exploitation and drug trafficking. Luis Contreras, chief prosecutor (s) of the Coyhaique Prosecutor's Office acknowledged that "this is a case that is not a common occurrence in this city" and that "it is one of the first cases we have with people arrested and formalized for child sexual exploitation". Fernando Álvarez, head of the Sexual Crimes Investigation Brigade of Coyhaique of the PDI, informed that "today we cannot refer to a certain number of victims, however, the investigative process continues and as a result of the analysis that we are doing, we will be able to establish the number of victims and defendants".

Hong Kong police have arrested a 66-year-old retired pastor on suspicion of sexually assaulting a minor on two occasions more than 30 years ago, the Post has learned.
A source said on Saturday that a woman, now 44, filed a police report late last month alleging she had been sexually assaulted twice at a church in Sham Shui Po between September 1993 and March 1994. She was 13 years old at the time. The man was accused of sexually assaulting the minor while she was studying inside the church.

GEORGE TOWN: Nearly a decade after the discovery of mass graves in Wang Kelian shocked the nation, the Human Rights Commission has warned that systemic weaknesses continue to undermine the country’s anti-trafficking efforts.
Its vice-chairman Tengku Mohamed Fauzi Tengku Abdul Hamid described Malaysia’s unresolved institutional failures as a source of human suffering and urged concrete action. “The souls buried in Wang Kelian cry not just for remembrance, but also for accountability,” he said during a keynote address at the launch of Mass Graves, a book by veteran journalist Datuk Arulldas Sinnappan documenting the 2015 tragedy.
The book chronicles the discovery of 139 graves across 28 abandoned human trafficking camps near the Malaysia–Thailand border in Perlis. Each grave was believed to contain three to four bodies, many wrapped in white cloth in accordance with Muslim burial traditions. Victims were reportedly starved and tortured.

▫️Lev Tahor Leader Yoel Alter Arrested in Guatemala on Human Trafficking Charges
Interpol Operation Leads to Arrest Amid Child Abuse Allegations
GUATEMALA – Yoel Alter, a prominent leader of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish group Lev Tahor, was arrested in Guatemala following a coordinated operation led by Interpol. The arrest comes amid growing allegations of child abuse and human trafficking linked to the controversial cult.
The 35-year-old Alter was taken into custody in Guatemala after Mexico requested his extradition. He faces serious human trafficking charges in Mexico and appeared in a Guatemalan court, where he was detained. Alter is expected to be extradited to Mexico for trial in the near future.
