A foolish person believes that law enforcement can effectively keep the public safe. This guy called the police and the Marshalls, and it took days to get anyone to care. It was the threat of calling Fox News that changed their tune. https://fox59.com/news/national-world/how-an-evansville-car-wash-manager-helped-police-find-alabama-fugitives/?fbclid=IwAR1sqZjUM7JnNxPO4x12LJX8c8b7wsquP6keQNj5b7mI5MiLPUlbUnMa708
For over a decade, I've been telling people to go to local city or county meetings because no one else will, and change can happen easily by nicely asking. This guy illustrates that.

They'll do literally anything to not fix the problems. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/why-the-fed-wants-corporate-america-to-have-a-hiring-freeze-morning-brief-100055174.html

Why the Fed wants corporate America to have a hiring freeze
Here's what to watch in the markets on Thursday, May 12, 2022.
They'll do anything to make the problem worse for us and better for big banks and hedge fund managers. Inflation is due to over-printing money. The US Government spends too much, so it has its bank, the Fed, buy bonds to pay for it, making the dollar worth less. Instead of buying less bonds, it wants companies to pay workers less in the first positive job market most of us have seen in our careers.
Four years ago, I was speaking to college students about a career in media, and one guy asked about work/life balance in the industry. My answer was, "not for the first ten years because it is competitive." Since then, I've seen the concept advertised a lot.
The first four months of the pandemic have to be a big cause, along with the realization that you're more loyal to your company. Why kill yourself with stress, literally, for people who don't love you back at the expense of those who love you?
"50% of workers in the U.S. would prefer access to unlimited PTO to earning a higher salary, according to a new survey of 2,000 workers by the Harris Poll for Fortune. It’s a benefit only about 9% of workers currently enjoy."
But like most things in corporate America, unlimited PTO is kind of BS:

The town of Passadumkeag is effectively shut down after clerk’s resignation
Passadumkeag is effectively shut down because it does not have a town clerk, code enforcement officer, assessor or animal control officer.
I just finished one of our twice weekly direct food distributions. I’m feeling so scared and overwhelmed.
I started a food program in response to Covid. I’ve mobilized thousands of volunteers and moved over 4 million (no joke) lbs of food since May 2020.
I’m more worried now than I have been since the beginning of the pandemic.
Our numbers are growing astronomically. Our donations are dropping. And people keep coming.
We set up like an outdoor market at our local fairgrounds. I’ve got a 20’ and 40’ refrigerator plus storage containers out there. Usually 4-6 volunteers each 2 hr distribution is enough.
Today we could have used 20 volunteers. We distributed thousands of pounds of food. The line stretched about 50 families deep for over an hour.
We tried to keep people in the shade, we offered waters, we have benches to sit on. But it was 80° and we were on blacktop. So many elderly people. So many disabled people.
Working towards equitable distribution is so hard. Sometimes I feel like I’m just pouring a cup of water on a burning house, trying to put the fire out.
We ran out of diapers, out of wipes, out of masks, out of rice, out of pasta, out of tuna, out of fruit, out of beans.

“And while we’re talking about things that make us squirm but really shouldn’t, I’d like to say that I’m a big advocate for not hiding your enthusiasm for things. It seems to me that there is a false stigma around eagerness in our culture of “unbothered ambivalence.” This outlook perpetuates the idea that it’s not cool to “want it.”…..Never be ashamed of trying. Effortlessness is a myth. The people who wanted it the least were the ones I wanted to date and be friends with in high school. The people who want it most are the people I now hire to work for my company.” - Taylor Swift
Let's keep things in perspective and quit freaking parents out by repeating over-the-top takes. Data shows our kids are safer now than when we went to school. https://news.northeastern.edu/2018/02/26/schools-are-still-one-of-the-safest-places-for-children-researcher-says/

I don’t think the obsessively outraged people on my feed have any clue that I no longer trust their judgement as to what is good policy after COVID.
