11,000 year old mounds identified as oldest man-made structures in North America
Mounds located on the Louisiana State University (LSU) campus have been identified as the oldest known man-made structures in North America. The two mounds stand 20 feet tall and are coordinated in an alignment toward one of the brightest stars in the night sky. They are among more than 800 man-made structures built by indigenous people across Louisiana. Many of these mounds have been destroyed over the centuries, while the LSU campus mounds have remained preserved, listed on the National Register for Historic Places. Researchers from the University collected sediment core samples, revealing layers of ash from burned reed and cane plants, as well as remains of burned osteons that indicates that the mounds were likely used for ceremonial purposes. Comment: Wikipedia: 'osteon (plural osteons or ostea) 1. (anatomy) Any of the central canals, and surrounding bony layers, found in compact bone.'

Day-long queues for coal in Poland as soaring energy prices cause people to panic buy ahead of winter
Several weeks ago we reported that amid Europe's mindblowing gas and electricity prices, Deutsche Bank predicted that a growing number of German households will be using firewood for heating, a forecast which appears to have become self-fulfilling as German google searches for firewood ("brennholz") had since exploded off the charts: But while Germans are still "searching" merely in the virtual realm, for countless Poles the search is all too real.

This man lobbied the US to invade Iraq over 'WMDs', but had the courage to admit his mistake
Known for his aggressive inspection style and strong views regarding Iraqi compliance with their disarmament obligations, at the end of the day, David Kay showed his true grit by standing up to the world and confronting them with the fact that they all got it wrong on Iraq. By the time I arrived in New York, in mid-September 1991, weapons inspectors from the United Nations Special Commission, or UNSCOM, had been on the ground in Iraq on 16 separate occasions, starting in May. Most of the inspections had been conducted in accordance with the on-site inspection template born of the American experience in implementing the intermediate nuclear forces (INF) treaty, which had entered into force in July 1988 and represented the world's first foray into on-site inspection as a means of arms control compliance verification.

Next PM could face £23bn autumn spend to cover £900 rise in energy bills
Ministers could face an additional £23bn price tag for covering extra household energy costs of £900 this autumn, rising to £90bn next year, a new paper by the Institute for Government has found. The paper, looking at the options for Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak in No 10, also warned the government should plan for prolonged rises in energy bills by going a lot further in making public appeals to use less gas - for example by informing consumers about the cost savings from turning down thermostats - and in committing to building more energy efficient homes to help protect consumers. No 10 and Kwasi Kwarteng, the business secretary and close ally of Truss, have been resisting appeals to the public to use less energy. However, the next prime minister, likely to be Truss, faces some very difficult choices on entering office on how far to subsidise energy bills. Boris Johnson's government has already spent £33bn on covering 90% of the then predicted increase in energy bills but soaring...

Hungary approves construction of two Russian-built nuclear reactors
Hungary has announced that the €12.5bn (£10.6bn) construction of two nuclear reactors by Russia's Rosatom will begin in the coming weeks after regulators approved the project. The war in Ukraine has not deterred Hungary's interest in the project to add to the four reactors already operating at the Paks plant outside Budapest. The fact it is moving forward is another indication of the close ties between Hungary's nationalist prime minister, Viktor Orbán, and the Russian president, Vladimir Putin. "This is a big step, an important milestone," the Hungarian foreign minister, Péter Szijjártó, said on Facebook after the national regulator issued a permit on Thursday after numerous delays. "We can now move from planning stage to construction. You'll see that at the Paks site in the coming weeks." He added it was "realistic" the reactors could enter service by 2030.

Heavily redacted affidavit says 184 classified docs found at Trump residence
A redacted FBI affidavit used to convince a judge to approve a search warrant for former President Trump's Florida home noted that authorities found 184 classified documents in their initial review of recovered boxes in an effort that began just a few months after he left office. Authorities' concern that Trump may have additional national security information at his private residence was spurred by a review of the 15 boxes recovered by the National Archives in January. The affidavit indicates that among the 184 documents were 25 that contained top secret information, including those gained from "clandestine human sources," information prohibited from being shared with foreign governments, and information obtained by monitoring "foreign communications signals." The 28-page affidavit contains numerous redactions but indicates authorities believed "evidence, contraband, fruits of crime, or other items illegally possessed" would be found at Mar-a-Lago. Entirely redacted is a provision...

SOTT FOCUS: A nuclear showdown? One of the greatest 'realist' fears about the Russia-Ukraine conflict is actually groundless, and here's why
The US will not intervene directly, because it's not an existential crisis for Washington - it stands to lose little from Kiev's inevitable defeat. Fears that the Ukraine conflict is now bogged down into some sort of stalemate which risks dangerous escalation from the parties involved in order to achieve victory are misplaced. There is only one victor in the Ukraine conflict, and that is Russia. Nothing can change this reality. Renowned American intellectual John Mearsheimer has written an important article about the conflict, entitled: 'Playing with Fire in Ukraine: The Underappreciated Risks of Catastrophic Escalation'. The article paints a dark picture about both the nature of the war in Ukraine (prolonged stalemate) and probable outcome (decisive escalation by the parties involved to stave off defeat). Mearsheimer's underpinning premises, however, are fundamentally flawed. Russia possesses the strategic initiative - militarily, politically, and economically - when it comes to...

Diplomatic Immunity, American-Style - The rule of law has disappeared in the US
In a recent podcast, Kevin Barrett stated that the rule of law has disappeared in the US. This is so obviously true to outsiders looking in, and is even more true of American official conduct abroad, but I find myself wondering about the extent to which Americans generally are aware of this and how it is perceived. In days gone by, this lawlessness was usually deeply buried and obfuscated but today it seems there is no longer even a pretense of any rule of law. We see this most recently in the so-called "sanctions" the US so freely applies to countries and individuals, being no more than illegal rampaging and looting. But there is another category that may not be as visible and yet is indicative of an extreme breakdown of the rule of law, this applying to the category of "diplomatic immunity", real or imagined, where the US government absolutely treads on a one-way street. This article is only a brief introduction with a few examples of hundreds that could be cited.

China deploys ships and jets near Taiwan following provocative 'freedom of navigation' moves by the US
The US Navy has sent two warships through the Taiwan Strait on Sunday, in a significant first sail through since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's provocative visit to Taiwan early this month. The guided-missile cruisers USS Antietam and USS Chancellorsville traversed "through waters where high seas freedoms of navigation and overflight apply in accordance with international law," according to the US 7th Fleet in Japan. "These ships (are transiting) through a corridor in the strait that is beyond the territorial sea of any coastal state. The ships' transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the United States' commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. The United States military flies, sails, and operates anywhere international law allows," the 7th Fleet statement continued.

BEST OF THE WEB: How to grow your soul
Here is something all of us can do. Every day, make an effort to rejoice in the success of others: particularly success with things that you want for yourself. Think of someone and imagine him or her having a breakthrough, and find that place in yourself that makes you feel happy for that person. Pierce through the pang of jealousy. Let your love for humanity shine through and dispel the darkness of meanness: the close-mindedness, the Gollum-face, the hardened ugliness of being petty and ungrateful.

SOTT FOCUS: NewsReal: Russiagate Redux - FBI Raided Trump to Keep Him Out of White House
The release this week of a farcically redacted affidavit that granted the FBI its warrant to conduct an unprecedented raid on a former president's residence on August 8th underscores what most have intuited - that the move was politically motivated to thwart or prevent Trump from running for president again in 2024. Trump's lawyers in March this year filed a RICO 'anti-conspiracy' lawsuit against the Clinton campaign team, the Democratic Party, the Department of Justice and the FBI itself, seeking restitution for the false allegations of 'Russian collusion' made against him. Whatever information Trump has against them, the raid on Mar-a-Lago was probably intended to forcibly remove from him. This week on NewsReal, Joe and Niall discuss the likelihood of this rank 'political policing' translating into electoral success for Trump, the unravelling 'science of Covid vaccines', European leaders' warnings of 'the end of the age of abundance', and the possibility that the nuclear...

Rockefeller Foundation wants behavioral scientists to come up with more convincing covid vaxx narratives
In yet another sign that the covid vaccination agenda of globalist institutions did not do quite as well as they had originally hoped, the Rockefeller Foundation has revealed that it (along with other non-profits) has been pumping millions of dollars into a behavioral science project meant to figure out why large groups of people around the world refuse to take the jab. The "Mercury Project" is a collective of behavioral scientists formed by the Social Science Research Council (SSRC), a non-profit group which receives considerable funding from globalist organizations and governments. The stated goals of the project are rather non-specific, using ambiguous language and mission statements. However, the root intentions appear to be focused on using behavioral psychology and mass psychology elements to understand the global resistance to the recent covid compliance efforts. Mercury groups will be deployed in multiple nations and regions and will study vaccine refusal and the medical...

What will be the real world consequences of Europe's coming energy crisis?
Anyone with any sense could have seen it coming - Europe is on the precipice of an economic and social crisis not seen since World War II; and they basically did it to themselves. Ever since the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent NATO sanctions, the talking heads in the mainstream media have consistently fed the public an endless narrative on how the EU doesn't need Russian natural gas. We've heard an array of theories and chest beating from corporate journalists and lying politicians; all of them sounding so certain that Russia would be isolated and economically destroyed within no time. This has not happened, and now the reverse might soon be true for the EU and the UK. To give you a sense of the disinformation being peddled to the public on this issue, take a look at the 10 point "battle plan" put together by the International Energy Agency (IEA) back in March to cut off Russian energy imports and save the EU from a crisis: 1) Don't sign new gas supply contracts with...

Torrential rains trigger deadly floods in Freetown, Sierra Leone
At least 6 people have lost their lives after torrential rains caused floods and landslides across parts of Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone. The fatalities occurred when a mudslide destroyed two adjacent homes in an informal settlement in Looking Town, situated on a steep slope in the hills above the neighbourhood of Kissy. Freetown Mayor, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, visited areas affected by the heavy rains. "My heart goes out to the families of the six people who died in the mudslide at Looking Town today," the mayor said.

Man found dead believed to be victim of dog attack in Nassau, The Bahamas
The man found dead on a sidewalk in the capital over the weekend may have been attacked by dogs, according to police. Officers found a man believed to be in his late 50s to early 60s lying on the sidewalk on the southern side of Palm Tree Avenue around 4:00 am on Saturday. The victim's body reportedly had severe injuries to his lower extremities that appear to be consistent with bite marks. Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings said: "Police are actively investigating and encouraging members of the public who have overly aggressive or uncontrollable dogs that they cannot restrain in aggressive situations or circumstances, consistently bark, are always agitated, fight, create disturbances with other animals, or try to attack people, to ensure their yards are properly secured and enclosed to prevent their animals escaping.

Top Bulgarian tennis player Dimitrov forced to retire mid-way through match due to shortness of breath and dizziness
Grigor Dimitrov came out strong but faded fast as the Winston-Salem Open's top seed was forced to retire from his match against Dominic Thiem, sending the Austrian into the Round of 16. With less than a week to go before the start of the U.S. Open, Dimitrov came out sharp, unleashing a torrent of backhanded slices to keep Thiem off balance as the Bulgarian raced through the surprisingly one-sided first set 6-0.
