59% of Americans worry student loan forgiveness will make inflation worse, CNBC survey finds
Some experts believe the Biden administration could announce a decision on whether to extend a more than two-year-long pause on federal student loan debt this week, ahead of the current Aug. 31 deadline. Many borrowers are hoping the Education Department will extend that break and announce up to $10,000 in loan forgiveness. Currently, about 44 million borrowers owe a collective $1.7 trillion in federal student loan debt. Yet, a new poll finds Americans worry that debt forgiveness could have unintended consequences.

The greatest migration on Earth happens under darkness every day
Every evening around the world trillions of zooplankton, many smaller than a grain of rice, hover hundreds of feet below the surface of the sea, waiting for their signal. Scientists long considered these tiny animals to be drifters, passive specks suspended in the ocean, moved by the whims of tides and currents. And yet, just before the sun disappears, the swarms begin to rise on a clandestine journey to the surface. As they climb, clusters of other zooplankton join in: copepods, salps, krill and fish larvae. The multitudes remain near the surface at night, but just as the first beams of morning light begin to cascade across the sea, they are already turning back down to the deep. As sunset and sunrise slide from east to west every 24 hours — across the Pacific Ocean, then the Indian, the Southern and the Atlantic — swarm after swarm make the same upward journey, retreating as daylight returns.

Six months after Canada's Freedom Convoy, Trudeau's lies and cowardice are clearer than ever
It's been six months since Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau cracked down on one of the largest labor protests in recent history. In February, thousands of Canadian truck drivers joined what became known as the Freedom Convoy, driving to Ottawa and parking their rigs in the capitol city in protest of Trudeau's vaccine mandates. I was one of them. But rather than meet with truckers, Trudeau demonized us as extremists, and then invoked the never before used Emergencies Act, meant to be used during times of war or terrorism, granting the government extraordinary powers they do not normally have. He then used the Emergencies Act to freeze the bank accounts of protest organizers and those who donated to the truckers and had Convoy organizer Tamara Lich arrested. Six months later, it's clearer than ever just how unjustifiable Trudeau's actions really were. In a recent report, the CBC, Canada's federal public broadcaster, found that at the time Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act, an...

Heavy rains and floods affect Manabao, Dominican Republic
The director of the municipal district of Manabao, in Jarabacoa, José Rafael Abreu, reported that this community is incommunicado after the floods caused by the heavy rains that have fallen in recent days. The heavy downpours also led to the Yaque del Norte River overflowing into that community. "Just be patient so as not to put our lives in danger, just wait for the river flow to drop and declare this area a state of emergency; since the downpours have been continuing for several days, but today (Tuesday) it exceeded expectations. This is a natural phenomenon that has never occurred in Manabao, it has us incommunicado; we are waiting for the flow to drop, to see if we can restore traffic," Abreu said. The Indian government has issued an advisory to all states amid the spread of a new type of influenza. Predominantly affecting minors, the viral disease results in the formation of red blisters that look like tomatoes - hence the condition's name, tomato flu. According to a statement released by India's Health Ministry on Tuesday, more than 82 cases involving children under five have been reported, with the disease prevalent in the country's southern states. The first case of the flu was reported in Kerala state on May 6. Ukraine - Europe's main supplier of human organs
Ukraine throughout its "independent" history has been the main supplier of human organs to Europe and the United States. The profitable business, which was run by entire criminal groups, was under threat after the start of the Special Military Operation: the logistics were disrupted, and the "clients" fled. But the Zelensky government came to the aid of partners. A number of Ukrainian analysts claim that it was the pharmaceutical lobby that pushed through the initiative with soldiers' wills. Recall: the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allowed the commanders of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to certify the wills of military personnel under martial law. There is information that there will be an addition to each will: in the event of death, the military will bequeath his organs to the state, well, or for good purposes. Rare colorful ruins at the Temple of Cupra in Italy illuminate 2000 years of Roman History
Located in the Marche region of Italy, Cupra Marittima was a powerful outpost of the Roman Empire in the past, unlike today. The remains of the ancient temple of Cupra have been unearthed on the Adriatic coast. In the study carried out by archaeologists, they found the frescoed walls and ceiling of the 2000-year-old temple painted in yellow, blue, red, black and green tones. Also found in the temple of Cupra, walls decorated with floral wreaths, tiny palm paintings, and candlesticks. The post, part of a series celebrating Ukraine's Independence Day, was not the first piece of Nazi iconography shared by Zelensky. Zelensky posted the image on Instagram early on Wednesday. In it, a Ukrainian soldier carrying a rifle displays the standard of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS, also known as the 1st Galician division. Comprising predominantly Ukrainian volunteers from the Galicia region (which spans what is now southwestern Poland and western Ukraine), the division is known for committing war crimes against Polish civilians during the course of World War II.
