LA Public Health Department faces backlash after offering COVID-19 test to animals, including seals
The Los Angeles Public Health Department is facing growing criticism over its decision to offer free COVID-19 testing for animals, despite there being no positive cases reported among animals in the area. LA Public Health announced the initiative on Aug. 20 and said it has received funding from the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to monitor COVID-19 in animals in Los Angeles County. "This project will help us to learn more about COVID-19 from a One Health perspective, meaning that we can learn more about the significance of COVID-19 in human, animal, and environmental relationships," the public health body said.

Navy dolphin's GoPro cameras reveal their weird and wonderful world in a way never seen before
At the risk of awarding the title prematurely, we think we've found the weirdest study published in 2022. Scientists strapped GoPro cameras to the bodies of six dolphins trained by the U.S. Navy, and recorded them hunting for food and consuming their prey in grisly detail. According to the study, there was a purpose behind this potential invasion of dolphin privacy; namely, to learn more about how the mammals hunted and ate. Scientists have previously made two competing assumptions about how dolphins ate. They engaged in either ram feeding, in which the predators swim faster than their prey and clasp the fish in their jaws as they overtake them; or suction feeding, in which predators move their tongues and expand their throats to create negative pressure and slurp up prey. The authors of the study, which was published on Wednesday in the journal PLoS ONE, set out to determine which method dolphins actually used.

Despite sanctions Moscow says Russian Arctic shipping will thrive as it plans 153 new ice-class ships & 10 icebreakers
The development plan that was adopted by the federal government on the 4th of August has grand ambitions for the Russian Arctic. Over the period until 2035, a total of 1,8 trillion rubles (€30,1 billion) is to be invested in 152 regional projects. Comment: Clearly Russia does not believe the demonstrably false claims that the arctic will be 'free of ice' due to man-made global warming; it wouldn't risk such massive investments without good reason to think otherwise: Two icebreakers sent to rescue TWENTY ice-locked ships on Northern Sea Route in the Arctic Among them is the building of 153 new ice-class ships, including ten icebreakers, twelve new seaports, twelve satellites, thirteen helicopters, several hospitals and search and rescue units. All of this will allow Russia to transport up to 100 million tons of goods per year by 2025 and 200 million tons by 2030, the federal Ministry of the Far East and Arctic informs.

MSNBC says US already in civil war; repeatedly calls GOP a "fascist" party
Remember, Fox News, OAN and Newsmax are the extremist propagandists though. MSNBC host Tiffany Cross declared that the U.S. is already in a civil war, and blamed conservative news organisations for stoking violence, then in a subsequent broadcast brought on a guest who repeatedly claimed that the Republican Party is "fascist." Cross made the comments while filling in for race baiter Joy Reid last week, stating "At this point, I do think we have to have serious conversations around preparing for actual violence. People keep saying a civil war is coming. I would say a civil war is here. And I don't mean to be hyperbolic."

Texas builds 600 miles of border wall using U-Haul trucks from California
Discarded U-Haul trucks abandoned by Californians immigrating to Texas have been repurposed as over 600 miles of new border wall along the America/Mexico border. Governor Greg Abbott confirmed that the wall is already cutting down on illegal immigration and California immigration since they've refused to send trucks back to California. "The state has been inundated with an influx of U-Hauls because of all the Californians leaving their state," said Henry Gugelface, lead engineer of the Texas border wall project. "We were hesitant to send the trucks back to California because we are so tired of Californians. Utilizing the excess U-Haul trucks for the border wall killed two birds with one stone!" The new stretch of border wall fills in gaps east of El Paso where migrants have been traveling into the country by the thousands. Now, though Hispanics have been braving an unforgiving desert landscape and river water to reach America, they are finding themselves stopped cold by a pile of...

Eavesdropping on a black hole: New NASA sonifications with a remix
Since 2003, the black hole at the center of the Perseus galaxy cluster has been associated with sound. This is because astronomers discovered that pressure waves sent out by the black hole caused ripples in the cluster's hot gas that could be translated into a note - one that humans cannot hear some 57 octaves below middle C. Now a new sonification brings more notes to this black hole sound machine. This new sonification - that is, the translation of astronomical data into sound - is being released for NASA's Black Hole Week this year. In some ways, this sonification is unlike any other done before(1, 2, 3, 4) because it revisits the actual sound waves discovered in data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory. The popular misconception that there is no sound in space originates with the fact that most of space is essentially a vacuum, providing no medium for sound waves to propagate through. A galaxy cluster, on the other hand, has copious amounts of gas that envelop the hundreds or...

Medieval map shows 'lost' islands of Cardigan Bay
A map found in the Bodleian Library shows two 'lost' islands in Cardigan Bay, possibly indicating the legendary sunken kingdom from Welsh mythology, Cantre'r Gwaelod. Cantre'r Gwaelod was a land said to be west of present-day Wales. Accounts on the legend of Cantre'r Gwaelod vary, but the earliest depiction appears during the 13th century in the Black Book of Carmarthen, describing the land as Maes Gwyddno. In this version, the land was lost to floods when a well-maiden named Mererid allowed the well to overflow. The more widely known variation is from the 17th century, where Cantre'r Gwaelod is described as being a low-lying land, protected from the sea by a dyke and a series of sluice gates.

CNN is being gutted because leftist media is not as appealing as they fantasize
One thing about leftist culture that never ceases to amaze is their ability to take a failure and pretend that it was actually a success. This attitude is perhaps an extension of their penchant for propaganda - They lie so much about everything that they end up falling victim to their own disinformation. They tell their enemies they are winning even when they are losing, and then they actually start to believe it themselves. It's a bit like the old rule for drug dealers - Everything falls apart when you start smoking the drugs you sell. For CNN and outlets like them, the problem is that you can't run from reality forever. If no one wants to watch your content then you can't force them to do so. Leftists wish they could use force, but they can't, so instead they try to use gaslighting and shame. This has translated into the typical tactics we see today from the media, which include race baiting and accusations of bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, fascism, etc. These tactics really took...

Portland church abandoned as congregation flees Antifa violence
Bishop Dave Noble said Mormons are fleeing Portland due to rioting and politics. A nearly 100-year-old Portland, Oregon church has been abandoned and is currently up for sale due to "Mormon flight" from the area, as members of the Church of Latter-day Saints are fleeing because of the city's historic crime, homelessness, and collapse of social norms. Bishop Dave Noble told the Willamette Week that attendees were scared away by rioting, politics, and are moving to Utah and Idaho. This "Mormon flight" has caused Oregon to lose 1.5 percent of its Mormon residents.

Droughts, cloud seeding and the coming water wars
Here's a puzzler for you: why is it that every time the MSM reports on cloud seeding, they treat it like some kind of crazy new invention that the world has never seen before? For the latest example of this phenomenon, check out China is seeding clouds to replenish its shrinking Yangtze River, which was posted to that bastion of truth, CNN.com, on August 18th. In this Pulitzer-worthy piece, it takes a crack squad of no less than three reporters to tell us that "Chinese planes are firing rods into the sky to bring more rainfall to its crucial Yangtze River, which has dried up in parts." Well, I never! What will they think of next, Mabel?! Of course, only a few paragraphs later they admit that this isn't some newfangled, cutting-edge technology, but a very old idea that's been in practice for nearly a century. So why, then, do they insist on reporting on cloud seeding as if weather modification has never been used before? Does it have anything to do with the fact that it isn't just...

Trump files motion seeking independent review of docs seized during FBI Mar-a-Lago raid
Trump's motion seeks a special master to review the documents Former President Trump and his legal team filed a motion Monday evening seeking an independent review of the records seized by the FBI during its "unprecedented" and "unnecessary" raid of Mar-a-Lago earlier this month, saying the decision to search his private residence just months before the 2022 midterm elections "involved political calculations aimed at diminishing the leading voice in the Republican Party, President Trump." According to the motion filed Monday evening in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Trump and his legal team are seeking an order to appoint a special master to review the records obtained during the search; blocks the further review of seized materials by the government until a special master is appointed; requires the Justice Department to provide a more detailed receipt for property and requires the government to return any item seized that was not within the scope of...

Germany plans 'climate lockdown'...Forbidden to leave doors open...Washcloths instead of showers!
The future in Germany is lockdown after lockdown. After the COVID lockdown, Germany now moving to impose a climate lockdown, says German Editor in Chief. Germany's Bild TV YouTube site here looks at the latest Socialist-Green government's initiatives to combat the country's deepening energy crisis. The latest initiatives have been drawn up by Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Green Party). Among the new rules, according to BILD TV: Shops are no longer allowed to keep the entrances continuously open (in order to prevent energy from being wasted by excess heating or air conditioning). In the video, BILD TV asks its Editor in Chief, Claus Strunz, what's behind the new regulation, commenting that essentially what we have is a government that is increasingly encroaching ever deeper into our private lives. "Something that nutty could only be conjured up by some crazy bureaucrats," Strunz comments. "That's precisely what we don't want: the government ruling the area of retail."

EU drought assessed at 'worst in 500 years'
A rainfall deficit will badly impact farming yields, the European Commission has warned Europe is experiencing what appears to be the worst drought in five centuries, the European Commission warned on Tuesday, citing a new analysis released by the EU's Joint Research Center (JRC). The August report highlighted the continued impact of extreme weather on farming. Almost half of the EU, or 47%, remains under warning conditions due to a shortage of moisture in the soil, while 17% of the EU is on alert due to the negative effects the weather has on crops. Together, they constitute 64% of the EU, the statement pointed out.

Whence Phaethon?
Where and how did the well-known Phaethon myth originate? This paper ... The Fall of Phaethon in Context: A New Synthesis of Mythological, Archaeological and Geological Evidence in: Journal of Ancient Near Eastern Religions Volume 16 Issue 1 (2016) argues that the myth known by the early classical Greek playwrights and philosophers undoubtedly originated with a cosmic impact. The parallels are very clear. In my book, I also argue this, since the description by Plato in his Timaeus is such an accurate description of the drawn-out process of near-Earth comet disintegration. There have been, and will be again, many destructions of mankind arising out of many causes; the greatest have been brought about by the agencies of fire and water, and other lesser ones by innumerable other causes. There is a story, which even you have preserved, that once upon a time Phaethon, the son of Helios, having yoked the steeds in his father's chariot, because he was not able to drive them in the path of...

Whistleblower says Twitter lied to Musk about spam bots, with possible implications for trial
A whistleblower who served as Twitter's security chief said in regulatory filings obtained by The Epoch Times that the social media company misled tech entrepreneur Elon Musk about the number of bots on the platform, with possible implications for the legal battle between the Tesla chief and Twitter. Peiter Zatko, who has publicly come forward as the whistleblower, made a series of explosive allegations regarding Twitter's cybersecurity policies in a disclosure filed in July with federal regulators (pdf), including the claim of Twitter "lying about bots to Elon Musk." Zatko's disclosure alleges that Twitter uses an "opaque metric" called monetizable daily active users (mDAU), rather than an earlier metric of total monthly users that was subject to big swings, including when spam and bot accounts were removed. "From Twitter's perspective, 'mDAU' was an improvement because it could internally define the mDAU formula, and thereby report numbers that would reassure shareholders and...

Working from home is causing worrying rise in porn addiction
Working from home, a sometimes-fad that has become a full-time lifestyle for many since the pandemic lockdowns, is fueling a worrying rise in porn addiction. The Laurel Centre in London, which treats sex and porn addiction, and is the largest of its kind in Britain, is reporting a record number of patients seeking help for their newfound addiction. Some patients, who identify themselves as working from home, report watching up to 14 hours of porn a day. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the center's clinical director, Dr. Paula Hall, said that working from home means that more and more people are spending time alone in front of their computers with no human contact. "It means you've got more opportunity, you don't have to wait until you get home at night, you can be more impulsive during the day," she said. In the first six months of 2022, the clinic administered 750 porn addicts — a steep rise from the 950 seen in the entirety of 2019. Worse still, the doctor said that patients seeking...

Borrell opposes full visa ban for Russians
Josep Borrell, the EU's most senior diplomat, has said he did not support banning all Russian citizens from visiting the bloc, an idea that some member states have supported. Speaking during a political forum in Spain on Monday, he called the proposal "controversial" and said the EU should be more targeted in its sanctions against Russia. "Forbidding entrance to all Russians would not be a good idea. We have to be more selective. Of course, we must not open the doors to the oligarchs," the official said, pointing out that wealthy Russian individuals were free to buy real estate in the EU. "But there are also many Russians who want to flee their country, because they don't want to live there. Are we going to close the door to those Russians?" The Ukrainian leadership has been vocally advocating punishing Russia by ceasing the issuance of most visas to Russian citizens. Ukraine's President Vladimir Zelensky has gone further, suggesting that Russian nationals should be expelled from...

Former President Donald Trump preparing to show FBI search footage, Report
Former President Donald Trump may be preparing to go "nuclear MAGA" against the Department of Justice and the FBI. Some people close to the former president are pushing him to release the video footage of the FBI searching his Mar-a-Lago residence, CNN reported. But some of the aides are not even certain if he has seen the video in its entirety yet. "I don't think it's been shared by anyone outside of the attorneys," a source close to the situation said. Some of Trump's aides and allies have encouraged the former President to make some of the footage available to the public, believing it could send a jolt of energy through the Republican Party's base. One person familiar with the conversations said there have been discussions about featuring the August footage in campaign-style ads, believing the footage could bolster Trump's claims of political persecution.

Declaration saying "There is no climate emergency" trends on Twitter - greenies have meltdown
Professor Dr. Knut Loschke studied crystallography, chemistry, physics, mathematics and computer science. In the course of a long career he founded an IT company, and is an honorary professor at the University of Technology, Economics and Culture in Leipzig. As part of his work at the University, he deals with the energy industry and climate change. He served the German Bundestag as an expert in 'Artificial Intelligence'. But Professor Loschke is annoyed, very annoyed, as he demonstrated in this recent Facebook post: I'm sick. Or, to put it even more clearly: I'm fed up with permanent and increasingly religious climate ramblings, fantasies about the energy transition, worship of electric cars, horror stories and doomsday scenarios from Corona to conflagrations and weather disasters. I can't stand the people who shout into microphones and cameras, or print it in newspapers every day. I suffer from having to see how science is turned into a whore of politics.
