Heavy snowfall in Free State, South Africa
Heavy snow has been confirmed in the Free State between Van Reenen and Harrismith on the N3 highway. This comes after the South African Weather Service (SAWS) warned of disruptive snow for the southern Drakensberg region. While many will be ecstatic with the snow, motorists have been warned to be extra cautious on the N3 highway. The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) said snowfall had blanketed the N3 route between Free State and KwaZulu-Natal.

Why is geostrategist Edward Luttwak banned in Ukraine?
Last year a "Center for Countering Disinformation," headed by former lawyer Polina Lysenko, was established within Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council under the authority of President Volodymyr Zelensky. Its stated aims were to detect and counter "propaganda" and "destructive disinformation" and prevent the "manipulation of public opinion." On July 14, 2022, it published on its website a list of politicians, academics, and activists accused of "promoting Russian propaganda," including me. Two specific reasons were given for my inclusion on this list. The first one was that I said or wrote that "Putin has been provoked to start a war against Ukraine." This is an easy one to dispense with: I never said or wrote or thought that. Either Polina Lysenko or one of her staff confused me with somebody else, or else they cut short a longer phrase of mine, such as "Putin's agents claim that he was provoked ..." The other reason given is that I've supposedly proposed holding...

1 in every 482 vaccinated people died within 1 month of Covid-19 vaccination in England according to the UK Government
For months on end, Government institutions have claimed they do not hold any data on deaths by vaccination status. But they have been lying to you. On the 6th July, a UK Government institution known as the Office for National Statistics, published a dataset on deaths by vaccination status in England between 1st January 2021 and 31st May 2022, which can be found here, and it makes for horrific reading. Table 9 of the dataset contains figures on 'Whole period counts of all registered deaths grouped by how many weeks after vaccination the deaths occurred; for deaths involving COVID-19 and deaths not involving COVID-19, deaths occurring between 1 January 2021 and 31 May 2022, England'. Here's a snapshot of how the ONS presents the data - Source As you can see, the ONS still don't make it easy for us by revealing the overall number of deaths, but with some patience and simple maths we can easily find this out ourselves.

China jails billionaire for 12 years, slaps him with unprecedented $8.1 billion fine
In the most glaring lesson yet to the country's upstart nouveau-riche oligarchs, a Chinese court has sentenced Xiao Jianhua, the billionaire founder of Tomorrow Group known for managing assets for descendants of prominent Chinese leaders, to 13 years in prison, and slapped the conglomerate with an unprecedented fine of 55 billion yuan ($8.1 billion), culminating the dramatic break-up of China's largest privately owned financial empire after a five-year investigation. The Canadian-Chinese tycoon, who disappeared from a luxury hotel in Hong Kong in 2017, was found guilty of illegally collecting public deposits, using entrusted assets in breach of trust, illegally using funds and bribery, according to a statement by the Shanghai No 1 Intermediate People's Court on Friday, the SCMP reported. Russian defense firm working on new 'enemy harassing, humane' drone
The Promkompozit tech firm is creating a 'humane' version of its Lisa (Fox) strike drone intended to harass the enemy round the clock by dropping grenades nearby, a company representative told TASS at the Army 2022 international military-technical forum on Friday. "Now, we are working on a complete control-panel-free, self-sustained flight. Coordinates are simply entered into the drone, and it takes off. It will use a night flight strategy to harass the enemy," the company representative said. That being said, the drone will not be assigned the task of eliminating the enemy, he said.

Ukraine war veterans on how Kiev plundered US aid, wasted soldiers, endangered civilians, and lost the war
"The weapons are stolen, the humanitarian aid is stolen, and we have no idea where the billions sent to this country have gone," a Ukrainian complained to The Grayzone. In a video sent via Facebook messenger in July, Ivan* can be seen standing next to his car, an early 2010s model Mitsubishi SUV. Smoke is pouring out of the rear window. Ivan laughs and pans his phone's camera across the length of the vehicle, pointing out bullet holes. "The turbocharger died in my car," he said, panning his phone toward the front of the vehicle. "My commander says I should pay to repair it myself. So to use my own car in the war, I need to buy a new turbocharger with my own money." Ivan flipped the camera toward his face. "Well, you fucking motherfucker members of parliament, I hope you fuck each other. Devils. I wish you were in our place," he said. Last month, Ukraine's parliamentarians voted to give themselves a 70% salary increase. Filings indicate the raise was enabled and encouraged by the...

The Gospel of Mark Antony - 3 - Jesus, Caesar, and Paul
In Chapter 1 of this series, I started with the question of whether Jesus of Nazareth existed, proceeded from the assumption that the correct answer is 'no', and introduced the hypothesis that Gaius Julius Caesar was the model used to build the literary character of Jesus. I also gave a quick overview of Caesar's personality and other characteristics, in order to demonstrate just how remarkable he was, and to point out a couple of key correspondences - namely, that he was known for placing heavy emphasis on the virtue of mercy, and for practising a charitable outlook towards the common man. Chapter 2 outlined the numerous correspondences between Caesar's life and the Jesus story, which encompass both specific events, similar names and roles in the dramatis personae, and common themes. I also spent some time in Chapter 2 looking at the details of Caesar's assassination, his funeral, and the cult of Divus Julius that was established after his death, all of which also show striking...

Meta and TikTok can track everything you type on in-app browsers: researcher
Facebook, Instagram and TikTok's iPhone apps are capable of tracking everything users type in their in-app internet browsers, according to warnings from a security researcher. All three popular social media apps say they don't track sensitive user data like credit card information, passwords and addresses that is entered through in-app browsers — but it would be extremely easy for them to do so if they wanted to, researcher and developer Felix Krause wrote this week. For example, imagine an Instagram user's friend sent them a direct message with a link to a product for sale. If the Instagram user clicks on the link using their iPhone, it will open within the in-app browser rather than redirecting to Safari. If the user then decides they want to purchase the product, they will have to enter their credit card information, shipping address and other details — all of which can be tracked by Instagram, according to Krause. The same process would occur if they were buying a product from...

Europe storms: Children among dead in France, Austria and Italy
Powerful storms have battered areas of central and southern Europe, killing at least 12 people including three children. The deaths, most from falling trees, were reported in Italy and Austria, and on the French island of Corsica. Heavy rain and winds wrecked campsites on the island, while in Venice, Italy, masonry was blown off the belltower of St Mark's Basilica. The storms follow weeks of heatwave and drought across much of the continent. In Corsica, winds gusting up to 224 km/h (140mph) uprooted trees and damaged mobile homes. Authorities there said a 13-year-old girl was killed by a falling tree on a campsite.

Bella Hadid says her vocal support for Palestine has lost her jobs
But it's not about to stop her from speaking out. Bella Hadid's personal brand may not be especially political, but there is one stance that she refuses to stop speaking out about — no matter how many brand sponsorships or friends she loses, or how many full-page New York Times ads she's targeted by. And that's her support for Palestine, where her father was born. In an interview for the Rep podcast, Hadid said her outspoken advocacy for Palestine has cost her career opportunities and even relationships. "I had so many companies that stopped working with me," she said. "I have friends that completely dropped me." Even though she described a feeling of "anxiety" about saying or doing the "right thing," Hadid said she believes she has all the personal experience and knowledge she needs to stand by her convictions. "I know my family enough, I know my own history enough. And that should be enough," she said on the podcast.

North Korea's Kim Yo Jong tells South Korean president to 'shut his mouth' after offer of aid
North Korea's Kim Yo Jong, the powerful sister of leader Kim Jong Un, said on Friday South Korea's president should "shut his mouth" after he reiterated that his country was willing to provide economic aid in return for nuclear disarmament. Her comments mark the first time a senior North Korean official has commented directly on what South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has called an "audacious" plan - first proposed in May and which he talked about again on Wednesday at a news conference to mark his first 100 days in office. "It would have been more favorable for his image to shut his mouth, rather than talking nonsense as he had nothing better to say," Kim Yo Jong said in a statement released by state news agency KCNA, calling Yoon "really simple and still childish" to think that he could trade economic cooperation for the North's honor and nuclear weapons.

Footage shows 'flash mob' of looters ransack 7-Eleven in Los Angeles
A "flash mob" of looters were caught on camera ransacking a 7-Eleven in Los Angeles earlier this week — making off with handfuls of cigarettes, snacks and other goods, authorities said. Video clips released by Los Angeles police show dozens of people, many of them not bothering to hide their faces, grabbing various items as they swarmed the chain store Monday shortly after midnight in the Harbor Gateway section of the city. Part of the footage even shows the rowdy bunch going behind the counter that was apparently vacated by 7-Eleven employees and flinging items toward a pack of people on the other side.

'Fire tornado' kills 38 at wildlife park in Algeria
A horror 'fire tornado' has killed at least 38 people in Algeria after it ripped through a wildlife park and incinerated 12 people trying to escape the flames in a bus. Fanned by drought and a blistering heatwave, the blazes have left massive destruction in their wake, mostly in the El Tarf region near the eastern border with Tunisia that was baking in 48C heat. A family of five was among the dead and at least 200 more people have suffered burns or respiratory problems from the smoke, according to various Algerian media. A journalist in El Tarf described 'scenes of devastation' on the road to El Kala in the country's far northeast. 'A tornado of fire swept everything away in seconds,' he told AFP by telephone. Bank Australia to ban loans on petrol vehicles as government crafts policy for complete ban by 2030
An Australian bank will stop offering loans for new fossil fuel cars from 2025 in a step it says will encourage more people to buy electric vehicles. The customer-owned Bank Australia will announce the self-imposed ban at a national EV summit in Canberra on Friday, arguing it is a responsible step to ensure its lending practices did not "lock our customers into higher carbon emissions and increasingly expensive running costs". The bank's chief impact officer, Sasha Courville, said the bank, which has 185,000 customers, would continue to fund loans for second-hand cars with internal combustion engines as it recognised not everyone would be able to afford an EV in three years. But she said the announcement would send a message that "if you're considering buying a new car you should think seriously about an electric vehicle, both for its impact on the climate and for its lifetime cost savings".
