Colorado weather: Storm dumps 3.5 inches in less than 2 hours in Broomfield
Rain storms are soaking the Denver metro area for the second day in a row, causing flash flooding and temporary road closures. In Broomfield, the National Weather Service recorded more than 3.5 inches of rain in less than two hours at one of its monitors. The rain has already had an impact, with a flash flood shutting down a community park and closing Spader Way from 1st Ave to DesCombes Drive for several hours. Local authorities have reported no injuries so far. A flash flood warning for Broomfield lifted at 11 a.m. and no evacuations have been ordered. Weather forecasters warn storms will move through the south-central metro area this afternoon and evening, which could lead to more flash flooding in communities around Denver.

A deeper dive into the CDC reversal
It was a good but bizarre day when the CDC finally reversed itself fundamentally on its messaging for two-and-a-half years. The source is the MMWR report of August 11, 2022. The title alone shows just how deeply the about-face was buried: Summary of Guidance for Minimizing the Impact of COVID-19 on Individual Persons, Communities, and Health Care Systems — United States, August 2022. The authors: "the CDC Emergency Response Team" consisting of "Greta M. Massetti, PhD; Brendan R. Jackson, MD; John T. Brooks, MD; Cria G. Perrine, PhD; Erica Reott, MPH; Aron J. Hall, DVM; Debra Lubar, PhD;; Ian T. Williams, PhD; Matthew D. Ritchey, DPT; Pragna Patel, MD; Leandris C. Liburd, PhD; Barbara E. Mahon, MD." It would have been fascinating to be a fly on the wall in the brainstorming sessions that led to this little treatise. The wording was chosen very carefully, not to say anything false outright, much less admit any errors of the past, but to imply that it was only possible to say these...

Russia proposes new precious metals market to compete with RIGGED bullion market in London - analyst
I've just finished a report on this (if you are a Capitalist Exploits subscriber then it will be in your hands shortly), but I'll touch on this here. Russia proposes a new international standard for trading in precious metals: the Moscow World Standard (MWS) which will become an alternative to the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) which systematically manipulates precious metals markets to depress prices. According to Russia's Finance Ministry, this new, independent international structure is necessary for "normalizing the functioning of the precious metals sector" and its creation is "critically important." "The basis of this new structure will be a new, specialized international precious metals brokerage headquartered in Moscow, which will rely on the MWS. Also proposed is a committee for fixing precious metals prices composed of central banks and largest banks of countries that are members of the Eurasian Economic Union (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and...

New research on the emergence of the first complex cells challenges orthodoxy
In the beginning, there was boredom. Following the emergence of cellular life on earth, some 3.5 billion years ago, simple cells lacking a nucleus and other detailed internal structure dominated the planet. Matters would remain largely unchanged in terms of evolutionary development in these so-called prokaryotic cells -- the bacteria and archaea -- for another billion and a half years. Then, something remarkable and unprecedented took place. A new type of cell, known as a eukaryote, emerged. The eukaryotes would evolve many complex internal modules or organelles, including the endoplasmic reticulum, the Golgi apparatus and the mitochondria, forming wildly diverse cell types -- precursors to all subsequent plant and animal life on earth. Prokaryotic cells, which include bacteria and archaea, are structurally simple organisms, lacking the complex internal structure found in eukaryotes. All living plant and animal species today have their origins in the Last Eukaryotic Common Ancestor...

Border crisis hits home in DC, so Mayor Bowser finally cares
For the past 18 months, our nation has experienced a historic crisis at the southern border fueled by the Biden administration's immigration policies allowing millions of illegal aliens into the country. Texas and Arizona are ground zero for this border crisis and, over the past 17 months, have been pleading with the federal government to address the record number of illegal aliens and amounts of deadly fentanyl flooding into their communities. The federal government's response has been derelict. President Joe Biden and his supposed border czar Vice President Kamala Harris have refused to visit the border. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas continues a deliberate disinformation campaign by stating that the "border is closed, the border is secure." Apparently, Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser didn't get the party line memo, as even she recently begged the Department of Defense to deploy the National Guard to address the "humanitarian crisis" in her city...

After initially blaming Palestinians, Israel admits to airstrike that killed 5 children in Gaza
The Israeli army has admitted to conducting the airstrike that killed five Palestinian children in the northern Gaza Strip earlier this month, after initially blaming their deaths on a misfire from a Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket. The airstrike occurred on August 7th, the last day of a three-day Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip, dubbed by the Israeli military as "Operation Breaking Dawn." The strike targeted the al-Faluja cemetery in the town of Jabalia, and struck five children while they were visiting the grave of their grandfather. The youngest victim of the strike was just three-years-old. Nathmi Karsh, 15, Hamed Nejm, 16, Mohammad Nejm, 16, Jamil Ihab Nejm, 13, and Jamil Najim al-Din Nejm, 3, were all killed in the strike. The Nejm boys were all cousins, and Nathmi Karsh was their close family friend and neighbor.

When Israeli politicians can't get their Hasbara straight
Israeli leaders are now working out their takeaways for the recent Gaza onslaught titled "Breaking Dawn" - which killed 49 Palestinians (including 17 children) and wounded 460 others, with hardly a scratch on the Israeli side. It has apparently been a boon for interim Prime Minister Yair Lapid for the upcoming upcoming elections: in the immediate wake of the onslaught (which was 5-7 August), the Maariv poll of August 11 gave Lapid's Yesh Atid party the highest poll count ever — 25 seats (it has already normalized down to about 22-23 seats since). He's now beating his chest with "deterrence" talk, as he said in a televised statement alongside Defense Minister Benny Gantz last week: "Operation Breaking Dawn brought back the initiative and deterrence. Whoever tries to harm us will pay with their life." Gantz was more specific about when and where: "In the future, if necessary, we will carry out preemptive strikes to protect the citizens of Israel, its sovereignty and infrastructure....

Trump calls for release of full affidavit used for FBI's Mar-a-Lago raid
Former President Trump is calling for the full release of the affidavit submitted with the warrant allowing the FBI to raid his Mar-a-Lago estate - after the Justice Department asked the document to remain sealed. Trump wrote late Monday evening on his platform Truth Social: "There is no way to justify the unannounced RAID of Mar-a-Lago, the home of the 45th President of the United States ... by a very large number of gun toting FBI Agents, and the Department of 'Justice' but, in the interest of TRANSPARENCY, I call for the immediate release of the completely Unredacted Affidavit pertaining to this horrible and shocking BREAK-IN. Also, the Judge on this case should recuse!" The federal attorneys argued Monday in front of Florida Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart Monday that publicly releasing the affidavit would compromise their agency's probe of the former president. A state of emergency has been declared in Nelson as residents have been told to evacuate their homes immediately after the Maitai River breached its banks. Some 223 homes in Nelson have already been evacuated. Nelson Mayor Rachel Reese said the river, which runs through the city and out to Tasman Bay, breached its banks as heavy rain continues to sweep across the South Island. Flood waters are encroaching on the city centre, a video from the Collingwood St bridge shows, while search and rescue teams are now looking for people who need help in the flooded streets and suburbs.

Lies, damned lies, statistics - and computer models
The current eco craze du jour is all about 'tipping points'. Take any weather event - a nice English summer for instance - catastrophise temperature, rainfall, drought and flood and suggest it is an awesome portent of certain climate Armageddon. Elite groupthink is flooding the market with such hysteria. In an excoriating article in the Telegraph, Jordan Peterson writes of a "cabal of utopians operating in the media, corporate and government fronts, wielding a nightmarish vision of environmental apocalypse". Let us update Mark Twain, suggested the Canadian sage: "There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and computer models." Net Zero is an "utterly preposterous and inexcusable goal, both practically and conceptually". Let's look at some of these 'tipping points' that have come to dominate the public debate, and examine how much actual science intrudes on the product of computer models, and the wishful 'Day After Tomorrow' thinking of green, politicised activists.

An attorney for former President Trump said on Monday he and his legal team aren't sure precisely what items were seized by the FBI during a search of Mar-a-Lago last week, saying that an inventory list provided to them was "worthless." Lindsey Halligan, a Florida-based lawyer who was at the estate during the search, told Fox News's Sean Hannity that details of what the FBI took remain scant to them and questioned whether some of the material was appropriate for the agency to obtain. The city of Charleston recorded 112.8 mm (4.44 inches) of rain in 24 hours on 15 August, with over 42 mm (1.7 inches) of that falling in 1 hour. Flooding caused damaged to dozens of homes in Fayette and Kanawha counties. Some residents had to be rescued and evacuated from flooded premises. Roads and bridges were also damaged. In a statement of 15 August, Governor Jim Justice said he declared the state of emergency "due to excessive rainfall that occurred overnight on Monday, August 15, 2022, which caused significant flooding that damaged over 100 homes, bridges, and roads throughout the counties. The storm also resulted in downed trees, power outages, and disruption to potable water systems. Over 20 people had to be rescued from their homes."

While temporary, the move would mark the first departure from a policy initiated in the early 2000s to phase out nuclear energy in Germany and which had over time become enshrined in political consensus. The decision has yet to be formally adopted by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's cabinet and would likely require a vote in Parliament. Some details are still under discussion, three senior government officials said. A cabinet decision would also need to wait on the outcome of an assessment of Germany's energy needs that will be concluded in the coming weeks but which the officials said was a foregone conclusion.

US military expert says Ukraine could be put on 'ammo diet'
Michael Kofman says Europe may already have given Kiev most of the weapons it's willing to provide Ukraine's European backers may be about to put the country on an "ammunition diet", an American military analyst has claimed in an interview with Germany's Der Spiegel. Michael Kofman said these nations may already have reached their limit in terms of weapons supplies to Kiev. In an article published on Tuesday, Kofman was quoted as saying it is not in the Ukrainian military's best interests to bide its time, as the weather will soon begin to worsen, making any counteroffensive more difficult to pull off. On top of that, according to the US expert, Russian troops could use a hiatus to regroup and "solve some of their personnel problems."

Hubris: 'Delusional', defeated Liz Cheney ripped for likening herself to Lincoln in concession speech
Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney was blasted by Republicans and conservatives after she compared herself to Abraham Lincoln in her concession speech following Tuesday's primary loss. "Abraham Lincoln was defeated in elections for the Senate and the House before he won the most important election of all," Cheney said of the 16th president after she was soundly beaten by Trump-backed challenger Harriet Hageman. "Lincoln ultimately prevailed," Cheney went on. "He saved our union and he defined our obligation as Americans for all of history. Speaking at Gettysburg of the great task remaining before us, Lincoln said, 'That we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain. That this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom and a government of the people, by the people and for the people shall not perish from this Earth.'

A Eurasian jigsaw: BRI and INSTC interconnectivity will complete the puzzle
Shrugging off western obstacles, Eurasia's ambitious connectivity projects helmed by China and Russia are now progressing deep into Asia's Heartland. SAMARKAND - Interconnecting Inner Eurasia is an exercise in Taoist equilibrium: adding piece by piece, patiently, to a gigantic jigsaw puzzle. It takes time, skill, vision, and of course major breakthroughs. A key piece was added to the puzzle recently in Uzbekistan, bolstering the links between the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the International North South Transportation Corridor (INSTC). The Mirzoyoyev government in Tashkent is deeply engaged in turbo-driving yet another Central Asian transportation corridor: a China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan railway. That was at the center of a meeting between the chairman of the board of Temir Yullari - the Uzbek national railways - and his counterparts in Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan, as well as managers of the Chinese Wakhan Corridor logistics company. In terms of the complex...

World order looks different from Moscow, Beijing
The Chinese Defence Ministry announced today its participation in the Vostok 2022 strategic command and staff exercise in Russia, which is slated for August 30-September 5. The low-key statement in Beijing said China will send some troops and the participation is within the framework of the two countries' annual cooperation plan. The statement mentioned that "India, Belarus, Tajikistan, Mongolia and other countries will also participate." It said the Chinese participation "aims to deepen pragmatic and friendly cooperation with the militaries of the participating countries, enhance the level of strategic coordination among all participating parties, and enhance the ability to deal with various security threats." In what can be construed as an oblique reference to the conflict in Ukraine and the big power tensions in general, Beijing stated that the exercise is "unrelated to the current international and regional situation." Vostok is one of the capstone events of the Russian Armed...
