Internet abuzz after mysterious red lights spotted in Atlantic ocean
Photos posted on Reddit claiming to be a swath of red lights seen over the Atlantic has sparked a debate over just what, exactly, is going on. "Mysterious red glow seen over the Atlantic, pilot says he's never seen anything like it," wrote redditor /mohiemen in the "Damnthatsinteresting" forum. And of course, what good would pictures of mysterious red ocean lights be without apocalyptic replies? "If I'm not wrong, the first DOOM game was set in 2022, so this is it. There comes the demons. There is the end..." -/u/ChinuCODM The jokes continued for a while...

Lawsuit: Chicago police misused ShotSpotter in murder case
A federal lawsuit filed Thursday alleges Chicago police misused "unreliable" gunshot detection technology and failed to pursue other leads in investigating a grandfather from the city's South Side who was charged with killing a neighbor. Chicago prosecutors used audio picked up by a network of sensors installed by the gunshot detection company ShotSpotter as critical evidence in charging Michael Williams with murder in 2020 for allegedly shooting the man inside his car. Williams spent nearly a year in jail, and The Associated Press reported last year that a judge dismissed his case at the request of prosecutors, who said they had insufficient evidence. The lawsuit filed by the MacArthur Justice Center at Northwestern University's law school seeks damages from the city for mental anguish, loss of income and legal bills for the 65-year-old Williams, who said he still suffers from a tremor in his hand that developed while he was locked up. It also details the case of a second...

The Psychology of Children
The transgender movement wants you to believe that young children know exactly what they want and, therefore, they should be allowed to have it. Even without the obvious guidance, nudging, and grooming from teachers, parents, and friends, some of these children want to change genders — we are told. This is bullshit only a demented person would believe. Children change their minds every day. They want to be fire fighters, doctors, football players, parents, gardeners. They want to look like THIS friend on Monday and THAT friend on Tuesday. They want straight hair, curls, long hair, short hair, no hair. Parents have the job of keeping all these flights of fancy in line. Meaning — think what you want to, Jimmy, but we're not letting you cut off all your hair or get on a boat and paddle out into the ocean looking for sharks. What parents keep in line their kids can rebel against later; much later; if they decide to. But now, no dice. Transgender guides and recruiters and groomers and...

Please God don't let you know WHO win the Nobel Peace Prize
If you thought satire died when Henry Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize, think again. According to the bookies, the favourite to win this year's Nobel Peace Prize is the WHO. Yes, that's right, the organisation that initially told us COVID-19 was nothing to worry about - the Chinese had it completely under control. Then changed tack and said, no, actually, we should be worrying about it and we should all do exactly what China had done, i.e., lock everyone in their homes, even though that hadn't actually succeeded in containing the virus. But then, this is an organisation that is so beholden to the Chinese Communist Party it refuses to recognise the existence of Taiwan. The only thing that could possibly be worse would be to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Anthony Fauci. Although it's a close call. John Tierney in City Journal has suggested a more worthy recipient.

Ukrainian governor 'suspects everybody' of helping Russia
The governor of Nikolayev wants to put the city into lockdown to hunt for alleged spies and saboteurs. The extreme measure is needed to catch alleged spies and saboteurs believed to be colluding with Russia, he told The Telegraph in an interview. So far, the city's authorities and the military have detained twelve individuals believed to be working for Russia amid the ongoing conflict, Kim revealed. Trump says he wanted to give himself Medal of Honor but was told it was 'inappropriate'
'They wouldn't let me do it' Donald Trump said he was dissuaded from awarding himself the Congressional Medal of Honor — the highest award for military valor in action — as he headlined the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit. "As President, I wanted to give myself the Congressional Medal of Honor but they wouldn't let me do it... They said that would be inappropriate," Mr Trump told a crowd of right-wing student activists in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday night. Elsewhere in his remarks, which came two days after the eighth public hearing of the January 6 committee's investigation into events before and during the Capitol riot and his central role, the former president told how a friend had described him as "the most persecuted person in the history our country".

Icelandic Study: Less than 0.06% of children experience severe Covid symptoms
Since the early days of the pandemic, evidence has consistently shown that Covid poses almost no risk to children. A major British study from last year estimated the survival rate for under 18s as 99.995%, and found that three quarters of under 18s who died from Covid had a serious underlying health condition. Deaths are (relatively) easy to count. But what about severe symptoms that don't result in death - how many children experience those? A new Icelandic study provides the answer. The study, authored by Valtyr Thors and colleagues, has one key advantage over previous studies: thanks to Iceland's small population and comprehensive record-keeping, the authors were able to identify all children infected with Covid up to August 31st 2021 (or very nearly all).

France threatens air-conditioned shops to keep doors shut under penalty of a fine
Leaving the doors open when the air conditioning is on leads to "20 percent more consumption and... it's absurd," French Minister of Ecological Transition Agnes Pannier-Runacher told RMC radio. Comment: There will be few small and medium businesses that could afford to blithely leave their doors open when energy prices have, in some cases, tripled. The only businesses that would float this logic are the super stores, and it's unlikely the government, that is usually in bed with these businesses, is going to fine them, and, even if they did, the fine would mean little to their profits. The minister said there were also plans to restrict the use of illuminated signs. "In the coming days, I will issue two decrees: the first will widen the ban on illuminated advertising, whatever the size of the city, between 1am and 6am", with the exception of airports and stations, Pannier-Runacher told the Journal du Dimanche newspaper. Comment: The energy 'crisis' apparently doesn't extend to...

Stunning meteor fireball over Spain (July 26)
This bright bolide was spotted over Spain on July 26, at 1:04 local time (equivalent to 23:04 universal time on July 25). It was almost as bright as the full Moon. The fireball was observed by casual eyewitnesses, who reported it on social networks. The event was generated by a rock (a meteoroid) from an asteroid that hit the atmosphere at about 57,000 km/h. The fireball overflew the south of Spain. It began at an altitude of about 104 km over the province of Jaén, moved southeast, and ended at a height of around 26 km over the province of Granada. This bright meteor was recorded in the framework of the SMART project, operated by the Southwestern Europe Meteor Network (SWEMN) from the meteor-observing stations located at Huelva, La Hita, CAHA, OSN, La Sagra, and Sevilla. The event has been analyzed by the principal investigator of the SMART project: Dr. Jose M. Madiedo, from the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC).

Survey: Student behavior among major reasons teachers are leaving their jobs
In a survey conducted by Chalkboard Review, it was revealed that a vast majority of midwestern teachers that are leaving their jobs are leaving because of pay, students' behavior or progressive politics in the classroom rather than reasons like Covid-19 or school shootings, amongst other reasons. The survey issued three preliminary questions and four main questions, with 615 K-12 teachers in the midwestern states of Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio responding. Of those that included salary as a main reason for leaving their position, 319 teachers listed student behavior as their biggest reason to resign from their position, followed by 138 who said progressive political activity, and 134 who said that salary is insufficient.

MI6 front Bellingcat confirms involvement in Ukrainian plot to steal Russian jets
The controversial group insists, however, that it was merely making a "documentary film" Christo Grozev, self-styled 'lead Russia investigator' with Bellingcat, confirmed on Monday his involvement in a Ukrainian intelligence plot to incite Russian military pilots to defect and hijack their planes. The senior member of the controversial Western-funded group, however, challenged the story told by the Russian side. Russia's Security Service (FSB) has presented "a traditional mix of forged 'evidence' and loosely interpreted facts" on the affair, Grozev claimed, rejecting allegations of being directly involved in the plot. According to a middleman detained by Russian intelligence, he had been receiving orders directly from Grozev on how to deliver cash to the pilots in exchange for videos proving they actually have access to warplanes.

Erdogan says West gets what it gives regarding its relationship with Putin

"You know the attitude of Western politicians towards Putin," he told state broadcaster TRT during a lengthy interview on Monday evening, calling it "unbecoming of politics."

Unsocial media monitor: Twitter censors James Lindsay's use of 'groomer' just days after Media Matters demands it do so
Dr. James Lindsay was temporarily locked out of his Twitter account this week for calling a Media Matters journalist "groomer," just two days after the outlet published a hit piece calling on Twitter to ban the use of the phrase entirely — specifically citing Lindsay as a "far-right" author who supposedly uses the term to "smear" the LGBTQ community. The piece also singled out Chaya Raichik, who runs the popular Libs of TikTok twitter account, as well as a similar account called "Gays Against Groomers." Indeed, Lindsay and the other accounts in question have popularized the use of the phrase "groomer" to refer to those who seek to condition children into certain sexualities, and indoctrinate them into radical gender ideology.
