What do TikTok, Bunnings, eBay and Netflix have in common? They're all hyper-collectors
You walk into a shopping centre to buy some groceries. Without your knowledge, an electronic scan of your face is taken by in-store surveillance cameras and stored in an online database. Each time you return to that store, your "faceprint" is compared with those of people wanted for shoplifting or violence. This might sound like science fiction but it's the reality for many of us. By failing to take our digital privacy seriously - as former human rights commissioner Ed Santow has warned - Australia is "sleepwalking" its way into mass surveillance. Privacy and the digital environment Of course, companies have been collecting personal information for decades. If you've ever signed up to a loyalty program like FlyBuys then you've performed what marketing agencies call a "value exchange". In return for benefits from the company (like discounted prices or special offers), you've handed over details of who you are, what you buy, and how often you buy it. Consumer data is big business. In...

Ottawa to "permanently embed" woke ideology into department
A federal "anti-racism" strategy guide details plans to "permanently embed" far-left woke ideology into Canada's immigration system. The 40-page Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada: Anti-Racism Strategy 2.0 provides a detailed update on how the department plans on combatting so-called "systemic racism" within Canada's immigration system. Buried in the middle of the report, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada propose that its proposed "anti-racist" strategy becomes a permanent feature of the government department, adding that it should be set up in such a way that it can't be overturned by future governments.

Why did Anthony Fauci suddenly switch one day from promoting calm to promoting lockdown?
I've been looking again at Covid's origins and the start of the pandemic. Last time I wrote on it I argued that Italy brought in China-style lockdowns on March 8th and 10th 2020 mainly as a result of panic owing to the leap in the death rate, with it being clear from the hospital situation there were many more deaths to come. I still believe that that was the immediate trigger for imposing lockdowns at the time. However, I now recognise that that is far from the full story. What it leaves out is the backdrop of who was pushing for lockdowns throughout the preceding two months, and why. Two key pieces of data have emerged in the last few months that help to bring the picture into clearer focus. The first is that with the arrival of Omicron the Chinese have continued fanatically to pursue lockdowns, crippling their economy as they do it. To my mind, this is convincing evidence that the Chinese are sincere about their belief in the radical new disease management strategy they...

For those about to rock, NAM 2.0 salutes you
NAM 2.0 drive - of which China is a key player - stands in stark opposition to how the Empire of Chaos - and Lies - wove its toxic net, via the war on terror, since the start of the millennium. Those were the days, in 1955, at the legendary Bandung conference in Indonesia, when the newly emancipated Global South started dreaming of building a new world, via what became configured later in 1961 in Belgrade as the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). The Empire of Chaos - and Lies - would never allow a starring role for NAM. So it played dirty: everything from hardcore subversion and bribing to military coups and proto-color revolutions. Yet now, the Spirit of Bandung lives again, via a sort of NAM 2.0 on steroids: a Newly Aligned Movement, with the leaders of Eurasian integration at the vanguard. We just had a taste of which way the geopolitical wind is blowing at the gathering of a new power troika in Tehran. Unlike Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill in 1943, Putin, Raisi and Erdogan did not...

Inside the shadowy Delaware court set to decide Musk v. Twitter fate
When Elon Musk and Twitter face off in court in October, there won't be a jury or cameras. The judge won't really be bound by the law, either. That's because Twitter brought its lawsuit against the Tesla billionaire in the Delaware Court of Chancery, where some of the world's biggest businesses often battle out their disputes in obscurity.

Watershed moment for sceptics as Prime Minister candidate Rishi Sunak makes election pitch saying "I stopped lockdown"
In a watershed moment for lockdown sceptics, Prime Minister candidate Rishi Sunak has said his opposition to lockdown is a reason that Conservative members should vote for him to lead the country. In an interview with Andrew Marr on LBC, the former Chancellor said that last December he cut short an overseas trip and flew back to London to intervene and "stop us sleepwalking into a national lockdown". "We were hours away from a press conference that was going to lock this country down again because of Omicron," he said. "And I came back and fought very hard against the system, because I believe that would be the wrong thing for this country, with all the damage it would have done to businesses, to children's education, to people's lives."

New Zealand Covid deaths soar to RECORD high as Omicron wreaks havoc: Scientists claim nation spent too long under 'hermit' eradication strategy
Covid death rates have reached pandemic highs in New Zealand as the country battles another havoc-inducing Omicron wave. Weekly virus fatalities hit 151 in the seven days ending July 16, compared to 115 in the worst week of the previous flare-up in March, according to Health Ministry data. It means the country's current mortality rate is twice as high as the UK's and four times higher than the US. In the latest 24 hours, all 26 Covid deaths occurred among over-60s — the group known to be most vulnerable to the virus.

Crocodile attacks 2 tourists swimming at resort in Mexico
A crocodile has left two American holidaymakers injured after mauling the pair at a popular Mexican resort. A 24-year-old man and his friend, 30, who were on holiday in the Puerto Vallarta area, were attacked on Monday night. Both men, thought to be from Illinois, were rushed to hospital after being attacked by the beast while in the waters off Bocanegra Beach. It's been reported that the younger tourist was attacked first, before his pal jumped into the water to save him. It comes almost a year after Kiana Hummel, 18, was dragged under the water by a 12-ft vicious crocodile while swimming off the coast of the same town. As she got herself out of the water, the beast clamped down on her ankle with its powerful jaws before dragging her back under the waves.

16-year-old Dutch tractor driver shot at by police: "I'm lucky I'm still alive"
On July 5th, Jouke, a 16-year-old farmer's son from the Dutch village of Akkrum, and his 17-year-old brother Sytse joined a group of farmers to protest at a distribution center near the Dutch city of Heerenveen. Around 10 PM they decided to go to McDonald's and then drive home in their tractors. As Jouke drove around a police barricade near highway A32 in Heerenveen, following other tractors who had done the same, his tractor was shot at by the police. According to the police, "tractor drivers tried to run into officers and service vehicles." As a 'threatening situation' arose, the police fired warning shots and also shot at a tractor - it was Jouke's. Soon after, his tractor was seized and he was arrested. A picture shows a bullet hole in the frame of his vehicle, near the cabin. Mother of the two boys, Tjitske, explains that the brothers encountered a police barrier at the start of highway A32 in Heerenveen and that Jouke did not drive towards the officers. Russophobia: History of Hate | RT Documentary
Russia has been portrayed as a 'savage and barbaric' nation, from Ivan the Terrible to Vladimir Putin. But where does the image come from? The documentary explores the creation of the anti-Russian narrative in the West and how it spread to the media and popular culture. Researchers, historians and writers in the documentary claim Russia became a convenient target after the Great Schism. Throughout history, European rulers and philosophers constructed the image of an uncivilised nation, unfit for talks. For example, French philosophers Diderot, Voltaire and Rousseau argued if Russia could become a civilised country or if it was destined to remain barbarian. The mythical ferocious Russian bear and the tale of bad Russia still feature in the media and contribute to modern russophobia. The documentary traces the origins of the anti-Russian narrative in the West and explores who benefits from it.

Israeli Supreme Court rules citizens can be stripped of status for 'breach of loyalty'
Rights groups expect the law to be used disproportionately against Palestinian citizens of Israel, who make up 20% of the state's population. Israel's Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that the state can revoke the citizenship of people on the basis of "breach of loyalty," a law that rights groups say is a dangerous and "illegitimate law." Such actions that could constitute a breach of loyalty or trust include anything the state finds as "terrorism", espionage, and treason. Adalah - The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel said the law will likely be used to disproportionately target Palestinian citizens of Israel, who make up 20% of the state's population. The ruling was made in response to two appeals filed by Adalah and Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) on behalf of Palestinian citizens of Israel who were convicted of being involved in attacks that resulted in the death of Israeli citizens.

However, she also acknowledged the vaccines were not as effective as many were led to believe and admitted health officials overplayed it.
