Israel military admits it uses armed drones
Israel's military censors have lifted a ban on reporting the country's use of armed drones, an official said on Wednesday, ending an open secret by admitting that the armed forces have unmanned attack aircraft and have used them. Palestinians have accused Israel of using armed drones in targeted killings in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, something never confirmed by Israel, which had previously barred all publication of news on the issue. There have also been numerous international news reports of Israeli drones attacking targets in Lebanon and Iran, which have never been confirmed officially by Israel. A statement from the military censor said that after consideration of the issue, "it was found that there was no impediment to publishing the IDF's use of armed UAVs as part of its operational activities."

Border Patrol pushes back on Mayorkas claim that southern border is secure: 'They are liars'
Multiple Border Patrol agents are pushing back against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas' claim that the southern border is "secure" -- just as agents on the frontlines of the historic migrant crisis are struggling to cope with the overwhelming numbers facing them. There were more than 207,000 migrant encounters in June alone, the fourth month in a row where the number of encounters breached the 200,000 mark. But Mayorkas, speaking at the Aspen Security Forum on Tuesday, dismissed claims about the border not being secure. "Look, the border is secure," he said. "We are working to make the border more secure. That has been a historic challenge." He then faulted lawmakers who have said they won't commit to broad immigration legislation until the situation is addressed.

Australia now selling its iron ore to China in yuan, not dollars
A ship carrying Australian iron ore docked in China's Shandong province last week. As Australia's biggest buyer, there's nothing unusual about that. What was remarkable was how that iron had been paid for. The transaction had been in Chinese yuan. Not US dollars. The Beijing-controlled Global Times saw this as a small - but significant - victory.

No energy security without Russia, 'like it or not' - Hungary's FM visits Moscow to seal gas purchase
Hungary needs to buy an extra 700 million cubic meters of natural gas this year to ensure its energy safety and this is "simply impossible" to do without Russia, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Thursday. Speaking in Moscow at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, the Hungarian minister said that "some may sell empty promises and chase dreams," but the "physical realities cannot be changed." "Like it or not," in his opinion, "it is currently simply impossible to buy this much extra natural gas in Europe without Russian sources." Szijjarto stressed that while his country's storage facilities were full enough "for normal times," since these are not normal times Hungary needs more gas to feel secure. The minister stressed that negotiations with Russia should conclude as soon as possible as the heating season officially starts on October 15. Comment: Indeed; officials across the planet have warned times are due to get unimaginably more...

HRW warns Russia, Ukraine against placing military bases in civilian areas
Human Rights Watch (HRW) says both Russia and Ukraine must avoid placing military bases in civilian areas during combat operations without relocating the residents first. The New York-based rights group said in a report on July 21 that both sides in the war in Ukraine have put civilians at unnecessary risk by basing their forces in populated areas without removing civilians to safer areas despite international humanitarian law obligating parties to the conflict to take all feasible precautions to protect civilians. HRW documented four cases of Russian forces establishing military bases in populated areas and three instances of the Ukrainian military taking similar action without moving civilians to safer areas. Subsequent attacks on these bases killed and wounded civilians, the watchdog said.

'Unscientific, unconstitutional, and discriminatory': Viva Frei on Canada's travel restrictions
It all started with the complications at the airports. With the increased lack of personnel due to the pandemic, the airports became a real nightmare. Cancelled or delayed flights were common. Then the passport offices got out of control, causing Canadian citizens to lose many travel opportunities. Now, it is the ArriveCAN application that is mandatory to enter Canada, regardless of citizenship. The application sometimes does not work, creating delays and flight cancellations. A hefty fine of $5,750 is given to people who refuse to comply with the application. You've probably heard horror stories of Canadians trying to get back into the country, only to have a quarantine imposed on them due to difficulties with the application. Tickets of $5000 and more are given for not complying with border requirements, even for travellers who are quadruple vaccinated! David Freiheit, also known as Viva Frei, speaks out about the forced quarantine on his 12-year-old daughter, as well as problems...

What do TikTok, Bunnings, eBay and Netflix have in common? They're all hyper-collectors
You walk into a shopping centre to buy some groceries. Without your knowledge, an electronic scan of your face is taken by in-store surveillance cameras and stored in an online database. Each time you return to that store, your "faceprint" is compared with those of people wanted for shoplifting or violence. This might sound like science fiction but it's the reality for many of us. By failing to take our digital privacy seriously - as former human rights commissioner Ed Santow has warned - Australia is "sleepwalking" its way into mass surveillance. Privacy and the digital environment Of course, companies have been collecting personal information for decades. If you've ever signed up to a loyalty program like FlyBuys then you've performed what marketing agencies call a "value exchange". In return for benefits from the company (like discounted prices or special offers), you've handed over details of who you are, what you buy, and how often you buy it. Consumer data is big business. Why did Anthony Fauci suddenly switch one day from promoting calm to promoting lockdown?
I've been looking again at Covid's origins and the start of the pandemic. Last time I wrote on it I argued that Italy brought in China-style lockdowns on March 8th and 10th 2020 mainly as a result of panic owing to the leap in the death rate, with it being clear from the hospital situation there were many more deaths to come. I still believe that that was the immediate trigger for imposing lockdowns at the time. However, I now recognise that that is far from the full story. What it leaves out is the backdrop of who was pushing for lockdowns throughout the preceding two months, and why. Two key pieces of data have emerged in the last few months that help to bring the picture into clearer focus. The first is that with the arrival of Omicron the Chinese have continued fanatically to pursue lockdowns, crippling their economy as they do it. To my mind, this is convincing evidence that the Chinese are sincere about their belief in the radical new disease management strategy they...

For those about to rock, NAM 2.0 salutes you
NAM 2.0 drive - of which China is a key player - stands in stark opposition to how the Empire of Chaos - and Lies - wove its toxic net, via the war on terror, since the start of the millennium. Those were the days, in 1955, at the legendary Bandung conference in Indonesia, when the newly emancipated Global South started dreaming of building a new world, via what became configured later in 1961 in Belgrade as the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). The Empire of Chaos - and Lies - would never allow a starring role for NAM. So it played dirty: everything from hardcore subversion and bribing to military coups and proto-color revolutions. Yet now, the Spirit of Bandung lives again, via a sort of NAM 2.0 on steroids: a Newly Aligned Movement, with the leaders of Eurasian integration at the vanguard. We just had a taste of which way the geopolitical wind is blowing at the gathering of a new power troika in Tehran. Unlike Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill in 1943, Putin, Raisi and Erdogan did not...

Watershed moment for sceptics as Prime Minister candidate Rishi Sunak makes election pitch saying "I stopped lockdown"
In a watershed moment for lockdown sceptics, Prime Minister candidate Rishi Sunak has said his opposition to lockdown is a reason that Conservative members should vote for him to lead the country. In an interview with Andrew Marr on LBC, the former Chancellor said that last December he cut short an overseas trip and flew back to London to intervene and "stop us sleepwalking into a national lockdown". "We were hours away from a press conference that was going to lock this country down again because of Omicron," he said. "And I came back and fought very hard against the system, because I believe that would be the wrong thing for this country, with all the damage it would have done to businesses, to children's education, to people's lives."
