EU's top diplomat hits back at Hungary over claims Russia sanctions 'will destroy Europe's economy'
Josep Borrell insisted the restrictions are not a mistake, after Hungarian PM Viktor Orban called them "miscalculated" The EU's top diplomat has hit back at those who criticize the Western sanctions slapped on Russia, saying on Monday that he does not believe them to be a mistake, and adding that the bloc will continue to stand by its policies. "There is a big debate about 'are the sanctions effective? Are the sanctions affecting us more than Russia?' Some European leaders have been saying that the sanctions were an error, were a mistake. Well, I do not think they were a mistake, it is what we had to do and we will continue doing," Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, told reporters prior to the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels.

Fields of crops burn in 10 locations across the UK in just one day
Farmers have been rocked by burning crops, while grass is on fire in locations around Britain. Emergency services have warned of wildfires, advising the public not to use barbeques or leave litter which could spark fires in the countryside. Meanwhile, open leisure areas, including zoos and wildlife parks, are closed to protect animals, staff and visitors. Fires are currently burning in:

Imran Khan rewrites Pakistan's political history
Against the odds and powerful rivals pitted against him, former PM Khan's win in Punjab elections is a victory for democracy and Pakistan's sovereignty. It is an unsavoury proposition always, be it in India or Pakistan, when political power is usurped by fly-by-night operators who engineer defections from a ruling party, and an established government gets overthrown despite its mandate to govern. In India — so far, at least — such shenanigans leading to regime change at the federal or state level have not been manipulated by foreign powers — except, perhaps, in the ouster of the first communist government in the southern state of Kerala, way back in 1959. In South Asian politics, Nepal, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Maldives have been chronic cases where foreign interference in their domestic politics has become endemic. But they are either small countries or weak states, vulnerable to external pressure.

Lawsuit alleges famed candy Skittles is 'unsafe for human consumption'
A California man is suing the candy maker Mars, alleging Skittles contains a "known toxin," making the popular candy "unfit for human consumption." On Thursday, San Leandro resident Jenile Thames filed a lawsuit seeking class-action status in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Attorneys for Thames said Skittles were unsafe for consumers because they contain "heightened levels" of titanium dioxide. Mars Inc. uses titanium dioxide to produce Skittles' rainbow of artificial colors. In 2016, the Mars publicly stated its intention to remove additive from its products. However, the Thursday complaint noted it is still used in products like Skittles today. In a statement sent by Mars to several other news outlets, the company said: "While we do not comment on pending litigation, our use of titanium dioxide complies with FDA regulations."

ArriveCan 'glitch' ordering vaccinated Canadians into quarantine without reason
According to the government of Canada's ArriveCan app, David Crouch should be at home, avoiding all contact, quarantining, to protect others from the COVID-19 there is absolutely no indication he has. Crouch is quadruple vaccinated, has not tested positive for COVID-19 and is showing no symptoms. The border guard who waved him back into Canada last week said nothing about getting a COVID test, or quarantine, but when he got home he found an email and a notification in his ArriveCan app, telling him to stay home for two weeks. Crouch lives in Ridgeway, Ont., a 15-minute drive from the Canada-U.S. border and like many living in border communities, he has American friends he visits regularly. He also picks up groceries on the other side of the border. He said there was no hint of an issue at the border, so the email hit him like a ton of bricks. "I checked my email and there's an email from ArriveCan, saying you are quarantined. This is your second day of quarantine," he said.

Another glorious day for the climate alarmists to scare us all to death
Already the official forecasts of temperatures reaching over 40°C have started to drop. The forecasts are the work of super computers and climate models, and their work is done. Population scared and headlines of imminent climate Thermageddon written. But let us now return to Planet Reality. The temperature might top 40°C somewhere this Monday or Tuesday. No doubt some thermometer blasted by jet exhaust, or conveniently sited in an urban setting with lots of reflecting glass and stone, can be found to produce the magic number. But, as ever, the response is - so what? A hot day is a product of meteorological events. There is not one paper in the science world that has conclusively linked single weather events to long-term climate change. Climate change is like capitalism. It is the aggregation of countless events and transactions. You can pick one single capital transaction and argue capitalism is doomed or evil. You can pick one heatwave and argue, as London mayor Sadiq Khan did,...

LGBT 'propaganda' faces complete ban in Russia
The promotion of LGBT relations could be permanently banned in Russia under a bill introduced to the State Duma on Monday, which likens such messaging to war propaganda and incitement of hatred. Currently, LGBT 'propaganda' in Russia is only banned when directed at children, but some politicians have been calling for harsher restrictions and punishments for the "denial of family values" and "propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations." In an explanatory note attached to the bill, the authors argue that LGBT 'propaganda' has become widespread in Russia and is being promoted through the media, public events, streaming services and through the depiction of such relationships in films. "In Russia, at the legislative level, it is not allowed to promote suicide, drugs, extremism, criminal behavior, as they are considered negative and socially dangerous phenomena. At the same time, formally, until now, there is no ban on propaganda of the denial of family values and non-traditional...

EU's foreign policy commissar, Borrell, admits goal of anti-Russian sanctions
Brussels aims to create problems for the Russian economy, but it won't stop the fighting in Ukraine, said Josep Borrell The embargoes imposed by the European Union against Moscow are intended not to stop the fighting in Ukraine, but wreck the Russian economy, the bloc's foreign policy commissioner Josep Borrell said in Brussels on Monday. Borrell also announced an EU ban on Russian gold exports later this week. "The EU sanctions will not stop the military activities in Ukraine, but ought to create a lot of problems for the Russian economy," Borrell said, adding that the EU "cannot afford sanctions fatigue." Russian President Vladimir Putin "counts on the fatigue of democracies with sanctions," the EU high representative for foreign policy said. "It is not easy but we must continue to put pressure on the Russian economy. Our European societies must not abandon this policy," he added. Comment: It makes it clear for anyone that it was never about protecting Ukraine or EU values or...

Mass shooter at Indiana mall killed by armed "good samaritan" civilian
A man with a rifle walked into an Indiana mall and opened fire in a food court Sunday evening. A law-abiding citizen with a permit to carry a handgun responded in seconds and was able to shoot and kill the suspect, ending the rampage. The Greenwood Police Department said a lone suspect entered the food court area of the Greenwood Park Mall, located on Highway 31 on the south side of Indianapolis, around 1800 local time. The suspect was armed with a rifle and several magazines of ammunition and immediately began firing. He was identified as an adult male, and police have yet to release a motive. The suspect killed three people and injured two during the rampage but was stopped short by a 22-year-old man carrying a gun lawfully. Police have not shared the man's name, but local authorities are already calling the citizen who stopped the shooter a "real hero." "Someone we are calling the 'Good Samaritan' was able to shoot the assailant and stop further bloodshed," Mayor Mark W. Myers...

EU can no longer afford national vetoes on foreign policy, German chancellor says
The European Union can no longer afford to keep national vetoes when deciding on European Union foreign and security policy if it wants to maintain a leading role in global politics, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said. Moscow's war in Ukraine makes unity in Europe ever more urgent and increases pressure for an end to "selfish blockades" of European decisions by individual member states, Scholz said in an article published by the Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper on Sunday.

New study: Covid vaccine linked to menstrual changes
A recent study has shown that almost half of women who took the Covid vaccine have reported changes to their menstrual cycle. The journal Science Advances published the results of a study on Friday articulating links between the Covid vaccine and changes to menstruation. They found that "42% of people with regular menstrual cycles bleed more heavily than usual." The study also showed that women who were post-menopause or who use long-term contraceptives reported unexpected breakthrough bleeding after taking the vaccine. NBC reports that the survey was conducted with 39,000 participants between the ages of 18 to 80 who were vaccinated with Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and Novavax vaccines. People between 45 and 55 were excluded to avoid inclusion of body changes due to menopause.

Mismanagement or Green agenda? California's Farmland Rapidly Turns To Dust Amid Water Crisis
As much of the Western US suffers from a historic drought, all eyes have shifted to Californian farmers as hundreds of thousands of acres become fallow in a state responsible for a tremendous amount of US food production. Unprecedented cuts to water supplies are jeopardizing the future of growing for many farmers. Drought conditions are worsening, making it harder for farmers to irrigate crops.

39-foot humpback and harbor porpoise wash up dead on beaches in the San Francisco Bay Area
The carcasses of a 39-foot humpback whale and a harbor porpoise were found washed ashore on two Bay Area beaches Saturday afternoon, and experts from the California Academy of Sciences and the Marine Mammal Center say the causes of their deaths are unrelated. Over the weekend, academy scientists performed a necropsy on the subadult female humpback whale discovered on Sharp Park Beach in Pacifica. Giancarlo Rulli, a spokesperson for the Marine Mammal Center, said the whale was "in an advanced state of decomposition" when scientists first visited Saturday and difficult to get to because of the high tide. Scientists returned Sunday and were able to perform the necropsy. After collecting data, photos, measurements and samples from the carcass, they found that lacerations on her body appeared to be consistent with "an interaction with orcas," which was the likely cause of death, said Moe Flannery, the California Academy of Sciences' senior collections manager. The whale was "missing her...

Tributes to Oman flood victim as death toll rises to 19
Friends of an Indian expat who drowned during flooding in Oman have lamented his death, as the official death toll rose to 19. Raju Sampat and his brother Ravi said the last time they saw Ramesh Chowdhary, 29, was when strong currents of rainwater that had flooded Oman's Rostaq valley washed him away. The accident happened while the trio were hiking during the Eid Al Adha holidays. The siblings watched their friend waving his hands and trying to fight the strong currents that took him away from sight. "One moment he was standing on a rock above the water, laughing and dancing, and the next minute a wave pulled him into the water and he was gone seconds later," Raju Sampat told The National.

Portland Antifa to host summer camp for kids
A Portland Antifa group called "Budding Roses" will be hosting an "Antifascist" social justice summer camp beginning July 25, where kids ages 10 to 14 will be participating in activities that include learning about police abolition, how to donate to bail funds, and what to do if they come in contact with tear gas during protests. The City of Portland awarded Budding Roses with a Spirit of Portland Award and selected the left-wing extremist group as Nonprofit Initiative of the Year in 2018, according to their website. The young campers will be learning curriculum from a book titled Tear Gas for Portlanders, which emphasizes the importance of "mutual aid" and teaches campers how to donate to bail funds if their comrades get arrested by police. They will also be taught how to proceed if police deploy crowd control munitions, such as tear gas.

Unusually cold airmass blows through Bering Strait bringing July snow
An unusually frigid ball of air is spinning through the Bering Strait region, bringing rare July snowfall, high surf advisories in the Norton Sound and wind gusts up to 48 mph in Nome. "These kinds of things spin around the higher latitudes all year long," said Rick Thoman, Alaska climate specialist at the International Arctic Research Center at UAF. "Usually, this cold would stay farther north. If this was happening on the North Slope, it would be chilly but nothing particularly to write home about. The fact that it's moved so far south is really the news here." Looking through climate records, Thoman said this airmass will be the coldest one seen during the month of July in the past 70 years. "I would chalk this particular storm up to one of those random variabilities that are going to happen from time to time, even in a warming climate," he said.

"A Peasants Revolt" FDA and the CDC are on notice/ industry professionals say the casket industry is booming
Caskets I spoke to the family who owns one of the largest casket manufacturers in North America. They supply caskets to huge chains across the US and manufacture Prime Caskets, among others. It's horrific to have to report on such a thing, but the owners said that their sales of typical caskets have increased by 20%, and since Dec 2021 their sales of small-size caskets (under 5 feet, i.e, for children) have increased by 400%. He's not the only one talking about it, those in the funeral industry are well aware of the sudden change in the nature of their business.

Unexpected sea surges slam into Cook Islands and Tahiti, video shows high waves crashing over 2-storey houses in Hawaii
An unexpected weather event has damaged properties and flooded roads in the Cook Islands while French Polynesia is dealing with the aftermath of huge swells. Swells of up to 4.5 metres inundating coastal areas, driven by a high-pressure system pushing up from New Zealand have been labelled a highly unusual weather event by Cook Islands' emergency management director. John Strickland said the impacts were the most far-reaching he had seen in a decade. "It was a sudden hit at night, there was damage that took place Tuesday night local time," Strickland said. He said there was an "unexpected sea surge" in Rarotonga.
