Meteor fireball over the SW of Spain (April 26)
This bolide was spotted over Spain on April 26, at 3:39 local time (equivalent to 1:39 universal time). The event was generated by a rock (a meteoroid) from an asteroid that hit the atmosphere at about 74,000 km/h. The fireball overflew South of Spain. It began at an altitude of about 87 km over Huelva, moved northeast, and ended at a height of around 50 km over Nerva (Huelva). This bright meteor was recorded in the framework of the SMART project, operated by the Southwestern Europe Meteor Network (SWEMN) from the meteor-observing stations located at Sierra Nevada, Sevilla, La Sagra (Granada), Huelva, El Aljarafe, and La Hita (Toledo). The event has been analyzed by the principal investigator of the SMART project: Dr. Jose M. Madiedo, from the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC).

Ontario university research positions restricted to those who are women, transgender, non-binary or two spirit
'Somehow, we've embraced this false notion that discrimination can be good and it simply cannot' The University of Waterloo has restricted hiring for at least three top-tier research positions to certain demographic groups, in two instances excluding applications from all cisgender men — whether they are white or people of colour — and in another refusing applications from anyone who doesn't identify as Indigenous. The restrictions are aimed at addressing a lack of diversity among Canada Research Chairs — 2,285 prestigious positions funded by the federal government and based at postsecondary institutions across the country. But some argue excluding people from the hiring process is not the best way to eliminate discrimination.

At least 42 injured as violent clashes in Jerusalem mark end of Ramadan
Violence has erupted for the second Friday in a row at Jerusalem's al-Aqsa Mosque which sits atop Temple Mount. At least 42 Palestinians have been reported injured after severe clashes with Israeli police, after reports of youths hurling rocks and fireworks at Jewish worshippers gathered at the Western Wall below. Tensions were already high throughout this month given the overlap of Ramadan and the Jewish celebration of Passover this year, which meant huge throngs of Jews and Muslims converging on the walled old city at the same time. Israeli media says at least 160,000 people attended Friday's Ramadan prayer at al-Aqsa, which is considered Islam's third holiest site after Mecca and Medina. Haaretz writes of the fresh violence that "Hundreds of young Palestinians fired fireworks and threw rocks within the compound, with some also hurling rocks towards the Western Wall and Mughrabi Bridge. One fell in the Western Wall plaza, though no one was reported injured." Israeli police...

'A downpayment on WWIII': Peace advocates blast Biden's ask for more Ukraine aid
Peace advocates reacted to Thursday's request by U.S. President Joe Biden for $33 billion in additional aid to Ukraine by warning against what they called a dangerous escalation and by accusing the administration of misplaced priorities. Biden is asking Congress for additional funding for war-ravaged Ukraine, including more than $20 billion in "security and military assistance," $8.5 billion in economic aid, and $3 billion in "humanitarian assistance." Biden claimed: "It's not cheap. But caving to aggression is going to be more costly if we allow it to happen. We either back the Ukrainian people as they defend their country, or we stand by as the Russians continue their atrocities and aggression in Ukraine every day." The president's appeal for additional funds comes on top of the $4.6 billion in security assistance the U.S. has given Ukraine since January 2021, including $3.7 billion since Russian forces invaded the country in February. Medea Benjamin, co-founder of the women-led...

US weapons supply to Ukraine prepped in January
A scheme to send US weapons to Ukraine, using the "lend-lease" formula pioneered during WWII to skirt neutrality laws, was officially approved by Congress this week. However, it was put together all the way back in January - more than a month before Moscow recognized the Donbass republics as independent and sent troops into Ukraine. Republican Senator John Cornyn introduced the Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act, also known as S.3522, on January 19, 2022. This is according to the official Congress.gov page for the bill. On the same date, it was co-sponsored by senators Benjamin Cardin, Jeanne Shaheen and Roger Wicker. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Lindsey Graham endorsed it the very next day, January 20. Other endorsements trickled in over the following weeks, with a total of 14 senators on board by February 9, again according to Congress.gov. Russia did not recognize the independence of Donetsk and Lugansk until February 21. The "special military operation" to demilitarize...

Eight years later, supernova 2014C is still revealing secrets about the lives of stars
An international group of astronomers has uncovered new clues about a mysterious stellar explosion that was discovered eight years ago, but is continuing to evolve even as scientists watch. The results help astronomers better understand the process of how massive stars — giants far larger than our own sun — live and die. The study was published in The Astrophysical Journal by a group led by the University of Texas at Austin and including scientists with the University of Chicago. The lives of 2014C In 2014, astronomers saw a sudden bright spot in the sky — a sure sign that a star had exploded out in space. When an exploding star is first detected, astronomers around the world begin to follow it with telescopes as the light it gives off changes rapidly over time. By watching how it evolves, using telescopes that can see visible light and also X-rays, radio waves, and infrared light, scientists can deduce the physical characteristics of the system. By doing this many times,...

Serbia to speak on Russia sanctions in 1 week, President admits to being pressured to change neutral stance
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has said that he will issue a statement on possible anti-Russia sanctions early next month, but will be guided by "the interests of Serbia" alone. Vucic has vehemently opposed penalizing Moscow for its offensive in Ukraine, but has come under pressure from the US to change his stance. "As for us and the imposition of sanctions, I will talk about this more and more thoroughly on May 6," Vucic told reporters at a military expo near Belgrade on Saturday, according to RIA Novosti. While acknowledging that he has been under pressure from unnamed politicians to acquiesce to the West's sanctions regime, Vucic added that "our policy should be a policy of responsibility, a policy of development for Serbia, which will think about the interests of Serbia at every moment."

Russia offers India way of bypassing Western sanctions
Moscow has reportedly proposed a plan for India to pay for Russian oil in US dollars or euro, while using a rupee-ruble-denominated mechanism for other goods. The new mechanism is designed to allow more trade in local currencies as economic pressure mounts on Russia over its military operation in neighboring Ukraine, according to people with knowledge of the matter quoted by Bloomberg. The proposals were reportedly discussed between Russian central bank officials and their Indian counterparts with the participation of officials from the finance ministry.

UK Foreign Secretary's militant rhetoric is another sign that post-Brexit Britain is dangerously delusional
A fanatical Neoconservative, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss presents world affairs in an uncompromising ideological struggle between "democracy" and "authoritarianism." She also seems to be addicted to the fervour of Cold War. Her address on Wednesday night in London bordered on showing desire for war against Russia and China simultaneously. By first calling to "push Russia out of the whole of Ukraine," Truss described the conflict as "our war," then proceeded to turn to China and taunt Beijing that its rise "was not inevitable." demanding that they "play by the rules" and even arguing that NATO should defend Taiwan in a potential contingency. Truss once again called for a "a network of liberty" and urged to avoid economic dependencies on undesirable countries (again a reference to Russia and China). But, unfortunately for Truss and despite the climate we now exist in, none of this huffed-up rhetoric has any serious basis in reality. Yet, if she gets her way, the potential...

Washington Post Condemns Musk For Criticizing Twitter Employee Instead Of Publishing Her Address And Showing Up At Her Sister's House
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Washington Post has released another broadside against Elon Musk, this time condemning him for mildly criticizing a Twitter executive instead of just doxxing her and her family. "It's sickening, Elon offering a short statement of disagreement with a powerful, high-level executive — does he have no soul?!" cried editor Sal McNally. "If he had any sliver of integrity, he would do what we here at the Washington Post do: publish her home address online and then show up at her family's doorstep."

Russia reveals details of Hitler's last hours
The Federal Security Service has published top secret testimony from Nazi leader's pilot. Russia's Federal Security Service (the successor of the KGB) has declassified documents from the case file of Adolf Hitler's personal pilot on Friday, revealing details of the final hours of the Nazi dictator. Hitler committed suicide on April 30, 1945, just days before Soviet troops captured Berlin, effectively ending World War II in Europe. His body had been doused with gasoline and burned. Lieutenant General Hans Baur who worked for Hitler for more than a decade, was captured by Soviet soldiers on May 2, 1945, and faced trial in Moscow. Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) published previously classified documents from Baur's file. The papers from the FSB's Novgorod region branch include Baur's handwritten autobiography and its translation from German, as well as his testimony.

Syria grants amnesty for 'terrorist crimes'
President Bashar Assad's decree does not, however, pardon anyone involved in killings. Syrian President Bashar Assad issued a decree on Saturday granting amnesty to Syrians for terrorist crimes up to the end of April, except those leading to death. Assad has extended similar olive branches to deserters, criminals and opposition fighters before, often to the displeasure of the US. Assad's decree, first reported by Syrian state media on Saturday, "grants a general amnesty for terrorist crimes committed by Syrians before [Saturday], except for those that led to the death of a person."

'Grooming' perfectly describes 'ideological manipulation' in schools: former teacher
The former public school teacher said kids are groomed on a regular basis, regardless of whether the grooming is sexual in nature every time. A former Indianapolis curriculum coordinator and public school teacher says "grooming" is the "perfect word" to describe what happens in classrooms. Tony Kinnett, previously put on leave and then fired for exposing critical race theory in schools, explained how "grooming" occurs in classrooms. He said it can occur with both racial and sexual topics.

Vijaya Gadde in line to be booted out from Twitter; bad karma, or fair price for being Democrat foot soldier?
Vijaya Gadde, Twitter's top lawyer, may soon lose her position as is evident from the critical tweets posted by none other than Elon Musk, the company's new owner. Gadde is the second Indian after Twitter CEO Parag Agarwal to have come in the firing line of Elon Musk. Musk's tweets have kickstarted a chain reaction on social media as some of the followers are hurling racist insults at Gadde. Whereas, some of the followers have termed it as an act of "racism" on the part of Musk stating that this is blatant and in a bad taste.

Emails surface more evidence Hillary Clinton paid for anti-Trump disinformation operation
This fact highlights Democrats' outrageous exploitation of intelligence credentials and connections to launder slanders against a political enemy. Evidence continues to mount that the Hillary Clinton campaign paid former MI6 agent Christopher Steele to launder fraudulent opposition research through U.S. intelligence agencies. Newly published internal emails reveal that before Fusion GPS hired Steele on behalf of the Clinton campaign to dig up dirt on Donald Trump, the opposition-research firm began peddling several of the same Russia collusion lies that the former MI6 agent would later detail in the Steele dossier. This fact highlights a significant aspect of the Spygate scandal that deserves further focus and condemnation: Democrats' outrageous exploitation of intelligence credentials and connections to launder scurrilous accusations against a political enemy.

Ukraine crisis a result of US policy goals - Russia
Washington's concept of a US-centric world is a neocolonialist project based on racism and American exceptionalism, Moscow believes. The current conflict between Russia and Ukraine is a direct result of the West's push to create a unipolar world, one which has involved NATO's unabated eastward expansion, Moscow's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told China's Xinhua News Agency in an interview published on Saturday. "The US and NATO have always seen Ukraine as an instrument of containing Russia," the minister said, adding that the reasons that eventually prompted Moscow to launch its military operation in Ukraine stem from a years-long western policy that included stirring up anti-Russian sentiment among Ukrainians and forcing them to make a "false choice" between the West and Russia.

Homes 'completely blown away' as extreme tornado rips through parts of Kansas
A tornado that barreled through parts of Kansas destroyed or damaged dozens of homes and buildings, injured several people and left more than 6,500 without power, officials said on Saturday. Officials said the suspected twister moved though parts of south-east Wichita and Andover on Friday evening. The Andover fire chief, Chad Russell, said early on Saturday morning 50 to 100 buildings were damaged in Sedgwick county, though it was not immediately known how many buildings were damaged in Andover. Russell said in some neighborhoods homes "were completely blown away". Officials said only a few injuries had been reported. In Sedgwick county, three people were injured, including one woman who suffered serious injuries.

More than 1,000 firefighters battle 150 square mile wildfire in New Mexico
More than 1,000 firefighters backed by bulldozers and aircraft battled the largest active wildfire in the US on Saturday after strong winds pushed it across some containment lines and closer to a town in northern New Mexico. Preliminary overnight mapping imagery indicated that the fire that has burned at least 166 homes grew in size from 103 square miles on Friday to 152 square miles by early Saturday, officials said. Ash carried seven miles through the air fell on Las Vegas, population about 13,000, and firefighters were trying to prevent the blaze from getting closer, said Mike Johnson, a spokesperson for the fire management team. Calmer winds on Saturday were aiding the firefighting effort after gusts accelerated the fire's advance to a point on Friday when "we were watching the fire march about a mile every hour", said Jayson Coil, a fire operations official.

It's About Time
Isn't it always? With the start of World War III by the United States "declaring" war against Russia by its actions in Ukraine, we have entered a time when the end of time has become very possible. I am speaking of nuclear annihilation. I look down at my great-uncle's gold Elgin pocket watch from the 19th century. His name was John Patrick Whalen, an Irish immigrant to the US who fled England's colonialist created famine in Ireland. It tells me it is 5:15 PM on April 21, 2022, a date, coincidentally, with a history. No doubt John looked at his watch on this date in 1898 when the United States, after the USS Maine exploded from within in Havana harbor (a possible false flag attack), declared war on Spain in order to confiscate Spanish territories - Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines. One colonial power replaced another and then proceeded over the long decades to wage war and slaughter these island peoples. Imperialism never dies. It is timeless. One hundred and twenty-four...
