Ukraine latest: Biden seeks aid, power to seize Russian wealth
President Joe Biden is seeking $33 billion in additional aid to Ukraine and new authority from Congress to seize and sell property linked to wealthy allies of President Vladimir Putin, as the Russian military intensifies its offensive. Biden's proposal, however, risks getting tangled in a long-simmering partisan dispute over immigration and Covid-19 funding. NATO allies have pledged and provided more than $8 billion in military assistance to Ukraine so far, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said. A top Ukrainian negotiator said additional military success was key to negotiations with Russia. - Key Developments Biden Ukraine Aid Risks Slowing as GOP Balks at Covid Tie-In Old-Fashioned Artillery Proves a Big Plus for Ukraine's Force Germany Closer to Backing EU Push to Sanction Russia's Sberbank German Parliament Backs Heavy Weapons Supplies for Ukraine Europe Seeks to Draw Tougher Line on Russian Gas Threat

UK government acted unlawfully when it sent patients into care homes without coronavirus testing
The case was brought forward by Dr Cathy Gardner and Fay Harris whose fathers Michael Gibson and Donald Harris died after testing positive for COVID. The government acted unlawfully by discharging untested hospital patients into care homes during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, the High Court has ruled. The case was brought by Dr Cathy Gardner and Fay Harris whose fathers, Michael Gibson and Donald Harris, died after testing positive for coronavirus. In a ruling on Wednesday, Lord Justice Bean and Mr Justice Garnham concluded that policies contained in documents released in March and early April 2020 were unlawful because they failed to take into account the risk to elderly and vulnerable residents from non-symptomatic transmission of the virus.

Caesarism: The problem, the solution, a fancy dress costume, or a propaganda cartoon?
In imperial history there is nothing new in cases of dementia in rulers attracting homicidal psychopaths to replace them. It's as natural as honey attracts bees. When US President Woodrow Wilson was incapacitated by a stroke on October 19, 1919, he was partially paralysed and blinded, and was no longer able to feed himself, sign his name, or speak normally; he was not demented. While his wife and the Navy officer who was his personal physician concealed his condition, there is no evidence that either Edith Wilson or Admiral Cary Grayson were themselves clinical cases of disability, delusion, or derangement. They were simply liars driven by the ambition to hold on to the power of the president's office and deceive everyone who got in their way.

India has seen 2 months of extreme heat and this week it will only get hotter
Life-threatening heat waves arrived in India a month earlier than normal, shattering temperature records, with highs reaching over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) -- and it will only get hotter. The worst of the heat wave is expected late this week into this weekend with high temperatures approaching 10-15 degrees Fahrenheit (5-8 degrees Celsius) above normal across northern and northwestern India as well as parts of Pakistan. Over one billion people will be subjected to excessive heat -- 10% of the world's population, according to Scott Duncan, an extreme climate expert. This region, including New Delhi, could endure temperatures in the mid to upper 40s Celsius -- which means temperatures over 110 and up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit are possible. And, unfortunately, this heat wont sleep.

Psychopathy and crimes against humanity
Just a week or so after the new edition of Political Ponerology was published in March 2022, I saw this tweet: As something of a nerd, I was quite excited. Especially after I saw that Robert Hare was the lead author. Dr. Hare is the leading expert on psychopathy, developer of the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised, and this was his first foray, to my knowledge, into the explicitly political dimensions of psychopathy, something of an obsession of mine (though his work with Paul Babiak did introduce and popularize the idea of the white-collar, corporate psychopath). You can read the full paper here. I discuss it in depth here (audio), video form below.

Empire of lies eager to receive Mr. Sarmat's business card
Especially since the onset of GWOT (Global War on Terror) at the start of the millennium, no one ever lost money betting against the toxic combo of hubris, arrogance and ignorance serially deployed by the Empire of Chaos and Lies. What passes for "analysis" in the vast intellectual no-fly zone known as US Think Tankland includes wishful thinking babble such as Beijing "believing" that Moscow would play a supporting role in the Chinese century just to see Russia, now, in the geopolitical driver's seat. This is a fitting example not only of outright Russophobic/Sinophobic paranoia about the emergence of peer competitors in Eurasia - the primeval Anglo-American nightmare - but also crass ignorance about the finer points of the complex Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership. As Operation Z methodically hits Phase 2, the Americans - with a vengeance - have also embarked on their symmetrical Phase 2, which de facto translates as an outright escalation towards Totalen Krieg,...

The West has misled the public on Russia's war strategy, and the results are starting to show in Donbass
If you follow the western media's coverage of the war in Ukraine, you'll probably come to one clear conclusion: Things aren't going to plan for Russia. If you're embedded into the world of Twitter, you'll probably even think Moscow is losing. There's enough reason to believe it at face value: An apparent plan to occupy Kyiv and the North of the country seemingly failed, resulting in Russia's withdrawal, whilst Putin's forces appear to have suffered more than expected losses and the Black Sea flagship, the Moskva has been sunk. This is coupled with reporting which repeatedly assumes that Putin aspired for the war to be swift, short and painless, depicting him as miscalculating, mentally deteriorating and falling into an a quagmire of his own making. Except that isn't the case. Whilst it is true indeed that wars never do go according to plan, and always do surmount to unanticipated costs, it is nonetheless also a reality that the western media coverage of the conflict has been...

'Judge Jeanine' rips new DHS 'disinfo board': Quicker than Ukraine got weapons, more organized than Afghan exit
The Department of Homeland Security, under Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, created the "Disinformation Governance Board" faster than the administration sent weapons to Ukraine and in a more organized manner than their withdrawal from Afghanistan, Judge Jeanine Pirro said Thursday on The Five. Pirro and co-host Greg Gutfeld remarked its inception must be just a coincidence, given the approaching midterm elections and Elon Musk's Twitter purchase. DHS tapped Nina Jankowicz, a "disinformation fellow" at the Woodrow Wilson Center according to the New York Post, who previously expressed doubt over the veracity of that newspaper's Hunter Biden laptop bombshell.

Clash of Christianities: Why Europe cannot understand Russia
Western Europeans see the Orthodox and eastern Christians as satraps and a bunch of smugglers, while the Orthodox regard the Crusaders as barbarian usurpers bent on world conquest. Under an ubiquitous, toxic atmosphere of cognitive dissonance drenched in Russophobia, it's absolutely impossible to have a meaningful discussion on finer points of Russian history and culture across the NATO space - a phenomenon I'm experiencing back in Paris right now, fresh from a long stint in Istanbul. At best, in a semblance of civilized dialogue, Russia is pigeonholed in the reductionist view of a threatening, irrational, ever-expanding empire - a way more wicked version of Ancient Rome, Achaemenid Persia, Ottoman Turkey or Mughal India. The fall of the USSR a little over three decades ago did hurl Russia back three centuries - to its borders in the 17th century. Russia, historically, had been interpreted as a secular empire - immense, multiple and multinational. This is all informed by history,...

Loud meteor fireball spotted over southern Mississippi mostly heard, hardly seen
A fiery meteor streaked across the morning skies in southern Mississippi yesterday on April 27, 2022. More than 30 eyewitnesses in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi reported seeing a bright fireball at 8:03 a.m. CDT. The sighting was soon followed by numerous reports of loud booms heard in Claiborne County, Mississippi, and surrounding counties. Approximately 22,000 miles out in space, NOAA's Geostationary Lightning Mappers (GLM) onboard the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES) 16 and 17 detected several bright flashes associated with the fragmentation's of this bolide, or exceptionally bright meteor, which was first spotted 54 miles above the Mississippi River near the Mississippi town of Alcorn. "This is one of the nicer events I have seen in the GLM data," said Bill Cooke, lead of NASA's Meteoroid Environments Office at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

While fueling Ukraine proxy war, NATO and EU are militarizing the Balkans
While much of the world's attention is focused on the war in Ukraine, the NATO-affiliated European Union Force (EUFOR) mission deployed combat troops to Bosnia, to the city of Banja Luka, on April 20. These soldiers were sent to the Balkans ostensibly to monitor a peaceful protest organised by a Bosnian Serb veterans' organisation, which was supported by the Bosnian Serb ruling party and its president Milorad Dodik. The increasing visibility of EUFOR and NATO troops in Bosnia is exacerbating already high tensions in the former Yugoslav countries, following the dramatic escalation of violence in Ukraine this year. The EUFOR intervention in Banja Luka followed similar "pre-cautionary" demonstrations of force in Bosnia over the last several months, including flyovers by French fighter jets and exercises in which EUFOR troops marched down commercial streets in central Sarajevo and drove around civilian areas in armored vehicles.

EU accepts gas for rubles deal, follows Russia's halting of Bulgaria's supply over non-payment
Bulgarian businesses want Sofia "to make it possible to resume talks with Gazprom" after the Russian energy giant cut off gas supplies to the country, according to Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Kornelia Ninova. "We propose that, by then, gas prices should be frozen or capped at their level in the contract with Gazprom and the difference with the higher prices of alternative supplies be paid for by the State," she said at a press conference after meeting with the Bulgaria Professional Employer Organization (PEO). Comment: 'Paid for by the State', does she mean the taxpayer?

Ruble hits two-year high against euro, euro hovers at five-year low against dollar
The Russian ruble rose to its strongest position since March 2020 against the European single currency, paring some gains after the Bank of Russia cut interest rates. On Friday, the ruble hit over 74 to the euro, and headed towards 70 to the dollar in Moscow trade. Earlier in the day, the Russian central bank cut its key interest rate to 14% in the latest attempt to boost lending in the sanction-hit economy. Part of the divergence with the euro may be attributed to a decline in the single currency which has seen a major sell-off this week. The euro is currently hovering around a five-year low against the dollar with fears over the growth outlook for the eurozone as the impacts of Russia-Ukraine conflict begin to spill over.

US government running out of cash for Ukraine, Poland ships half its tanks, Berlin called to stop sending arms
The US government needs Congress to approve its $33 billion request as soon as possible because it only has $250 million remaining from the previous package of assistance for Ukraine, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki has disclosed. US President Joe Biden signed the request on Thursday. He admitted that $33 billion "is not cheap" but claimed that "caving to aggression is going to be more costly." Comment: Doublespeak. It's not refusing to "cave to aggression", it's doubling down on supporting a murderous regime (Kiev). During a press briefing on the same day, Psaki was asked what the deadline was for when the government "absolutely needs" the new funding. She responded that the "need is urgent, as is the need for Covid funding urgent." "As you know, we had $3.5 billion in military security assistance. We have about $250 million of that left in drawdown. So, obviously, we will work to expedite that and provide that to the Ukrainians," the spokeswoman said. Comment: Not obviously....

Sweden won't allow citizens referendum vote over NATO membership
Sweden does not plan to hold a referendum on the subject of NATO membership if its parliament approves of the measure, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson announced on Thursday, suggesting that putting the matter to a vote would be a "bad idea." "I don't think it is an issue that is suitable for a referendum," the Swedish leader told reporters, implying that Parliament's support was sufficient. "There is a lot of information about national security that is confidential, so there are important issues in such a referendum that cannot be discussed and important facts that cannot be put on the table," she explained. The Swedish parliament is conducting an overview of security policy, with plans to release a report on the subject by the middle of next month. With a majority of Parliament reportedly backing membership in NATO, Andersson's own party, the Social Democrats, is considered the primary obstacle to Stockholm signing on to the 30-country alliance. However, Ulf...

Pushback: Big banks nailed over woke agenda during annual shareholder meetings
As three of America's largest banks kicked off the US financial industry's annual gatherings this week, conservative activist investors are pummeling them over "woke" Marxist agendas, as corporate boards have become swept up in "stakeholder capitalism" - the World Economic Forum-endorsed concept that companies shouldn't just serve their shareholders, but society at large. Stakeholder capitalism runs contrary to the demands of U.S. corporate law, which holds that directors and executives have a duty to one master: shareholders. Milton Friedman worried that a shift from shareholder primacy would cause companies to operate less efficiently and be less profitable, leaving investors, workers and consumers worse off. -WSJ Perhaps most notably, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink issued an open letter in January to CEOs explaining that companies they invest with will soon have to abide by sustainability rules governing climate change, labor practices and other issues. Comment: See: Who's aiming to...

Society isn't allowed to think of Johnny Depp as the victim
Why even bother establishing guilt when men are always the abusers and never the abused, right? Much of society, infused by decades of feminist ideology, refuses to perceive Johnny Depp as a possible victim of domestic abuse. More than just a successful actor, Depp represents masculinity, which feminism views as oppression. He is the "Patriarchy" personified. In the fallout of the #MeToo movement, which saw dozens of high-profile men in every industry out of a job over accusations of sexual harassment, assault, and worse, a target has been painted on the backs of every high-status male.

People who say they aren't censoring anyone really mad they won't be able to censor anyone
Reports are flooding in that the same exact people who said that they are not censoring anybody are absolutely furious that they won't be able to censor anyone. Now that Elon Musk — who is a strong proponent of free speech — has purchased Twitter, many employees worry that their days of inappropriately censoring opposing views are numbered. "So we're just going to let people freely say whatever they want now? What if they say something we don't like?" said Eliza Stephens, a Twitter content moderator who claims to have never ever censored anyone before. "How else will we prove we are right if we can't silence the opposition entirely. If conservatives aren't handicapped at every turn their ideas may catch on or be better than ours. AHHHHH!"

Two studies on adverse cardiac events in young people following vaccination: which is more credible?
Two recent studies on cardiac events in young people following vaccination - one in Israel and one in the UK - have come to very different conclusions. This one based on Israel's National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) dataset from 2019 to 2021 showed that there was a 25% increase in volume of cardiac arrest and acute coronary syndrome emergency calls in 16-39-year-olds between Jan-May 2021 compared to the 2019-2020 baseline. This increase was significantly associated with the rates of 1st and 2nd vaccine doses administered to this age group but were not with COVID-19 infection rates. In contrast, a preprint - whose main authors are the people at the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) in the UK responsible for producing the monthly vaccine mortality surveillance reports - came to a very different conclusion about the effect of the vaccine on young people. This preprint focused on cardiac and all-cause deaths of individuals aged 12-29 occurring within 12 weeks of vaccination...
