Western supply lines in Ukraine destroyed - Russia
Russian troops have destroyed six traction substations, - units that power the railways - which are being used for delivery of "foreign weapons and military hardware to the Ukrainian forces in the Donbass," Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov announced on Monday. He added that the stations were located at the Krasnoye, Zdolbunov, Zhmerinka, Berdichev, Kovel, and Korosten railway hubs, all in western Ukraine. According to Konashenkov, 27 military targets were also destroyed by airstrikes, including four command centers. Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said last month that pushing Ukrainian troops from the territory of the Donbass republics had become Moscow's top priority at this stage of the campaign. Ukraine's Western backers have not disclosed the exact routes they use to ship weapons to Kiev, but reports said that many of them are being delivered through neighboring Poland.

US meeting with arms manufacturers to replenish stocks depleted by Ukraine proxy-war on Russia
The U.S. has been sending its Stingers to Ukrainian forces battling Russia. It will be years before Raytheon Technologies can build new Stinger shoulder-fired missiles due to a dwindling supply of weapons parts, the company's CEO said Tuesday. The U.S. has shipped Stingers to Ukraine's military, which has used them to shoot down Russian aircraft. But there's only a finite supply as Raytheon has not made Stinger missiles for the U.S. military in nearly two decades.

Putin reminds UN chief Kosovo set precedent for Donbass republic
Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in the Kremlin on Tuesday for talks revolving around the Ukrainian crisis. The two discussed the situation on the ground, with Putin explaining to the UN chief Russia's reasons for launching its military operation against the neighboring country in late February. Moscow's move to recognize the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Lugansk was based on the Kosovo precedent, set up by a UN-backed court, Putin told Guterres. The republics emerged after people living in Ukraine's east rejected the Western-backed 2014 Maidan, he explained. Putin added that the post-coup Kiev government opted for a military solution that led to the eight-year standoff in the Donbass.

'Something is rotten in the state of Pakistan': How Islamabad's stance shapes the region
Pakistan's traditionally complex and intricate domestic political environment has just experienced another reshuffling. With the government headed by Imran Khan determined to salvage its position, even by dissolving the National Assembly (the lower chamber of the parliament), the joint opposition led by Shehbaz Sharif proved its resolve to oust the prime minister by appealing to the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, another powerful un-elected institution - the army - waited in the wings to come on stage. However, the play's outcome turned out to be less dramatic than some may have expected: parliamentarism, at the time empowered by the Supreme Court's interpretation of constitutionalism, prevailed over the controversial 'doctrine of necessity.' The reconvened National Assembly eventually voted in favor of the no-confidence motion that ended up forcing Khan from his post.

Species pairs: Presenting a new challenge to Darwinists
In the many years of vehement debate between proponents of unguided evolution and intelligent design, it sometimes may look like all has already been said and there are no new arguments on either side. However, this is not the case at all. Intelligent design theory has greatly developed since its early beginnings and many new arguments have been added in support of the design inference. Here, I want to introduce another new argument and formulate a challenge to my Darwinist colleagues. This challenge is by no means rhetorical and could be easily met with simple research in publicly available data bases. Here it is. As I have laid out in various publications (e.g., Bechly & Meyer 2017) and lectures, the fossil record demonstrates that the history of life was not a series of gradual transformations by an accumulation of small changes over long periods of time. Instead of conforming to this gradualist prediction of Darwin's theory of evolution, the fossil record consistently...

Violence spreading: Shots and drones from Ukraine reported near huge arms depot in Transnistria
The region's interior ministry has said "shots were fired from Ukraine" in the direction of the depot, and two drones were sighted Several shots were fired from across Ukraine's border with Transnistria into the territory of the self-proclaimed republic and in the direction of a huge arms depot, its interior ministry said on Wednesday. Two drones were also sighted in the area. "At 8:45 in the morning on April 27, shots were fired from Ukrainian territory in the direction of Kolbasna village," the ministry's statement reads. Transnistrian officials said that no casualties had been reported as a result. In a separate incident preceding the alleged shooting on Wednesday, "several drones were spotted over the village of Kolbasna" overnight, according to the ministry. The Transnistrian authorities also claim that the drones "had been launched into Transnistrian territory from Ukraine."

An intellectual no-fly zone: Online censorship of Ukraine dissent is becoming the new norm
Google has sent a warning shot across the world, ominously informing media outlets, bloggers, and content creators that it will no longer tolerate certain opinions when it comes to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Earlier this month, Google AdSense sent a message to a myriad of publishers, including MintPress News, informing us that, "Due to the war in Ukraine, we will pause monetization of content that exploits, dismisses, or condones the war." This content, it went on to say, "includes, but is not limited to, claims that imply victims are responsible for their own tragedy or similar instances of victim-blaming, such as claims that Ukraine is committing genocide or deliberately attacking its own citizens." This builds on a similar message Google's subsidiary YouTube released last month, stating, "Our Community Guidelines prohibit content denying, minimizing or trivializing well-documented violent events. We are now removing content about Russia's invasion in Ukraine that violates...

The psychology of manipulation: 6 lessons from the master of propaganda
Edward L. Bernays was an American business consultant who is widely recognized as the father of public relations. Bernays was one of the men responsible for "selling" World War 1 to the American public by branding it as a war that was necessary to "make the world safe for democracy". During the 1920s, Bernays consulted for a number of major corporations, helping to boost their business through expertly crafted marketing campaigns aimed at influencing public opinion. In 1928, Edward Bernays published his famous book, Propaganda, in which he outlined the theories behind his successful "public relations" endeavours. The book provides insights into the phenomenon of crowd psychology and outlines effective methods for manipulating people's habits and opinions. For a book that's almost 100 years old, Propaganda could not be more relevant today. In fact, its relevance is a testament to the unchanging nature of human psychology. One of the key takeaways of the book is that mind control is...

Nearly 60% of US population had COVID by February: CDC
By February of this year, 58 percent of the US population — more than 190 million people — had been infected with COVID, according to an antibody survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published Tuesday. The figure is far higher than the 80 million officially recorded cases, with the majority of infections undiagnosed, asymptomatic or unreported. Roughly 75 percent of people under 18 had been infected, according to a paper based on a nationally representative study of antibody levels. There was a huge surge during the winter Omicron wave, particularly among children. Each month from September 2021 to January 2022, the study examined some 75,000 blood specimens taken from across the country, as well as 45,000 samples in February. The study examined only antibodies created in response to prior infection, not vaccination.

Clinical psychologist tells defamation trial that Amber Heard suffers two personality disorders and 'grossly exaggerated her PTSD' after split from Johnny Depp
A clinical psychologist hired to review Amber Heard and Johnny Depp's turbulent relationship told jurors the actress suffers from two personality disorders and 'grossly exaggerated' her PTSD after the couple's bitter split. Depp's legal team called expert witness Dr. Shannon Curry to the stand on Tuesday as the Hollywood star's highly publicized defamation trial against his ex-wife entered its ninth day. The clinical and forensic psychologist told the court she concluded Heard had traits consistent with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Histrionic Personality Disorder (HPD) - two conditions found in people with patterns of emotional instability and attention-seeking behavior.

'Thoughtful moderation': Leaked audio reportedly from Twitter board meeting released by Project Veritas
Project Veritas released leaked audio Tuesday reportedly from a company-wide meeting at Twitter to address Elon Musk's takeover of the platform. The audio contains statements reportedly made by Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal and CMO Leslie Berland on April 25, 2022. Agrawal essentially admits in the audio that Twitter was "able to make the conversation" on the platform using "tools, processes" and that the company plans to continue these practices through "thoughtful moderation." "Elon made it clear in public that a large part of the reason he bought the platform was because of our moderation policies and disagreements in how we deal with health," Berland reportedly says in the clip. "This puts Twitter service and trust and safety as well as anybody who cares about health on the platform in a very difficult position."

BEST OF THE WEB: Twitter offers explanation for why conservatives are mysteriously gaining followers. Does it add up?
Twitter is claiming the recent surge in followers experienced by right-wing accounts since Elon Musk's takeover appears to be organic, but the picture may be more complicated. Republican Twitter accounts saw a massive surge in followers after reports Monday that Twitter was on the verge of selling itself to Elon Musk, while the accounts of Democratic lawmakers shrank considerably, according to an analysis Tuesday by USA Today. Twitter claimed the wild swings in follower counts are organic and simply the result of new accounts being created and existing accounts being deactivated. "We've been looking into recent fluctuations in follower counts. While we continue to take action on accounts that violate our spam policy which can affect follower counts, these fluctuations appear to largely have been a result of an increase in new account creation and deactivation," the company said in a statement Wednesday to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Financial records reveal Joe Biden had $5.2million in unexplained income
Joe Biden agreed to pay son Hunter's legal fees for his deal with a Chinese government-controlled company, emails reveal. The revelation ties the president even closer to Hunter's overseas business dealings - and makes his previous claims that he never discussed them with his son, even less plausible. Joe was able to pay the bills after earning millions of dollars through his and his wife's companies after he left office as vice president.

Fauci: US is 'certainly' out of pandemic stage of COVID-19
Fauci noted that many Americans may have to receive vaccines every year in order to keep case numbers low. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country's top infectious disease expert, says the United States is "certainly" past the pandemic stage of fighting the coronavirus, though he acknowledges it continues in other countries around the world. "We are certainly right now in this country out of the pandemic phase," he told PBS NewsHour host Judy Woodruff on Tuesday. "We don't have 900,000 new infections a day and tens and tens and tens of thousands of hospitalizations and thousands of deaths. We are at a low level right now. So, if you're saying, are we out of the pandemic phase in this country, we are."

Derek Chauvin seeking new trial after conviction in George Floyd death
Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted in the death of George Floyd, is seeking a new trial. In an 82-page brief filed Monday, Chauvin's attorney, William Mohrman, argued that it was impossible for his client to get a fair trial in Minneapolis amid the tense climate surrounding the proceedings and the pre-trial publicity. He said the media coverage of the case "glorified Floyd and demonized Chauvin."

Ukraine could dissolve into several states - Moscow
The policy pursued by the West and the "Kiev regime" it controls may ultimately result in Ukraine falling apart and ceasing to exist as a unified state, the secretary of Russia's Security Council, Nikolay Patrushev, has predicted. "Finding no positive ways to win Ukrainians over to its side, Washington, long before the 2014 coup d'etat, has been persuading Ukrainians of the supremacy of their nation and hatred toward everything Russian," Patrushev told the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper in an exclusive interview, excerpts from which were published Tuesday. Today, the peoples living in Ukraine are held together only by fear of nationalist battalions. Such a policy of the West and the Kiev regime it controls can result only in disintegration of Ukraine into several states.
