Western 'economic blitzkrieg' has failed - Putin
Western nations have failed in their attempts to destabilize the Russian economy with sanctions, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a government meeting on economic issues on Monday. "The situation is stabilizing, the ruble exchange rate has returned to the levels of the first half of February and is supported by a strong balance of payments... Foreign cash is returning to the country's banking system, and the volume of deposits by citizens is growing. As for the consumer market, after a short rush to buy a number of goods... retail demand has returned to normal. Commodity stocks in retail chains are recovering." Overall, he noted that sanctions have failed to break the country's economy: "The goal [of sanctions] was to quickly undermine the financial and economic situation in our country, provoke a panic in the markets, trigger a collapse of the banking system and a large-scale shortage of goods in stores. But this policy has failed - the economic blitzkrieg has run...

Serbia's President explains rejection of Russia sanctions, country's airports suffer false bomb threats from Kiev and 'unnamed EU state'
It has cost Serbia a lot to defy the West's push to impose sanctions on Russia over its military operation in Ukraine, President Aleksandar Vucic said on Sunday. He believes he would be celebrated by the West and hailed as a hero had Belgrade backed the economic restrictions against Moscow. "It costs us a lot not to have imposed sanctions on Russia. But if we imposed them, it would cost us our principle of not supporting sanctions against anyone, because we know from our own experience that sanctions are immoral and inefficient," Vucic told Pink TV.

Did early Greek art come from Egyptian sources?
It easily falls into the 'conspiracy' category - but that doesn't mean it isn't a fun story to tell. We are all taught that empires rise and fall and that every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end. Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt were no exception. The year was 1336 BC and the Egyptian Pharaoh, Akhenaten, had just died. Akhenaten was a strange Pharaoh who shook many of the essential foundations of Ancient Egyptian culture. For one thing, Akhenaten was a monotheist. He only believed in Aten, a Ra-like sun God, a fact that drives some scholars to debate whether he is a founding father of Judaism.

SOTT FOCUS: Objective:Health - Microplastics are Everywhere, Including in Your Body
Two recent studies have shown the microplastics, tiny pieces of plastic by definition less than 5 mm but can be microscopic, have been found deep in the tissues of most humans. One study from the Netherlands found microplastic particles in the bloodstream of 77% of healthy volunteers. Another study looked at the lung tissue of patients undergoing surgery and found 84% of the samples contained plastic. Another study by the University of Newcastle, Australia estimated that the average person is eating about 5 grams of plastic per week - that's the equivalent of one credit card. But plastic also gets into the body via the airways. Aren't you glad you've been forced to wear plastic-containing face masks over your mouth and nose for the last 2 years? Animal studies have found that inhaled plastics quickly make their way from the lungs to the heart and spleen, as well as to the deep organs of the fetus in pregnant animals, including the fetal liver, lungs, kidney and brain. It would be...

SOTT FOCUS: "One less traitor": Zelensky oversees campaign of assassination, kidnapping and torture of political opposition
While claiming to defend democracy, Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky has outlawed his opposition, ordered his rivals' arrest, and presided over the disappearance and assassination of dissidents across the country. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has framed his country's war against Russia as a battle for democracy itself. In a carefully choreographed address to US Congress on March 16, Zelensky stated, "Right now, the destiny of our country is being decided. The destiny of our people, whether Ukrainians will be free, whether they will be able to preserve their democracy." US corporate media has responded by showering Zelensky with fawning press, driving a campaign for his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize and inspiring a flamboyant musical tribute to himself and the Ukrainian military during the 2022 Grammy awards ceremony on April 3. Western media has looked the other way, however, as Zelensky and top officials in his administration have sanctioned a campaign of kidnapping,...

Officers are told to use 'gender-neutral' forms of address instead in new guidance
Police are being told not to call people 'sir' or 'ma'am', but to use 'gender-neutral' forms of address. Training for LGBT support officers advises them to 'avoid making assumptions about a person's sexual orientation or gender identity' and to use terms such as 'you', 'everyone' and 'all'. It's a far cry from the image of the traditional Bobby on the beat, represented by PC George Dixon, hero of the classic TV series Dixon Of Dock Green.

Where is Gonzalo Lira? Fears for YouTuber missing in Ukraine's Kharkov
Gonzalo Lira, a Chilean author and former film director, travelled from Kiev to Kharkov after the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine to report on the situation there. He has said that Ukrainian secret police had twice attempted to abduct him at different locations, but he escaped. Fans of a video blogger critical of anti-Russian propaganda fear for his life after contact with him was lost in the Ukrainian city of Kharkov. Gonzalo Lira, who formerly posted videos on YouTube as "Coach Red Pill", was due to appear on British dissident broadcaster George Galloway's Mother of All Talk Shows (MOATS) webcast on Sunday evening.

Biden ally floats idea of US troops in Ukraine
Senator suggests Ukraine may 'turn into Syria' unless the US and NATO 'stop Putin' US Senator Chris Coons, a politician described by media outlets as President Joe Biden's closest Senate ally, has raised the idea of deploying American troops to fight Russians in Ukraine, saying he fears the former Soviet republic will "become the Syria of Eastern Europe." "The American people cannot turn away from this tragedy in Ukraine," Coons said on Sunday in a CBS News interview. "I think the history of the 21st century turns on how fiercely we defend freedom in Ukraine and that Putin will only stop when we stop him." Asked by host Margaret Brennan about his recent comments calling for US leaders to discuss troop deployments to Ukraine, Coons said policy makers must consider the "level of brutality" exhibited by Russian forces. He credited Biden with pulling Western allies together to impose "crushing sanctions" on Russia, but suggested that more direct action may be needed as Russian...

Ex-German FM calls out Ukrainian 'conspiracy theories'
Sigmar Gabriel says Berlin has every right to refute false narratives spread by Kiev. Sigmar Gabriel, who served as Germany's top diplomat from 2017 to 2018, says the current government in Berlin can and should defend itself against "conspiracy theories" leveled at it by the likes of Ukrainian Ambassador Andrey Melnik. In an op-ed published by Der Spiegel on Sunday, Gabriel described as "dangerous" the narrative peddled by the Ukrainian representative in Berlin, according to which German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier had "for decades established a cobweb of contacts with Russia," allegedly involving members of the current German government.

Rep. Ilhan Omar: It would be 'staggeringly hypocritical' for US to support war crimes investigation into Putin without joining International Criminal Court
Rep. Ilhan Omar said it would be hypocritical for the US to support a war crimes investigation by the International Criminal Court without moving to become a member. "To me, there is staggering evidence that Putin and Russian forces have committed war crimes in Ukraine. I believe we should fully support an investigation into those crimes, and the best way to do that is to support the body that will carry out that investigation, the International Criminal Court," Omar said in a statement to Insider. "It would be staggeringly hypocritical to support an ICC investigation into Russia, while opposing the court's very existence as a non-member," she continued.

Here's why no one wants to talk about Sweden
When, the summer before last, the results of the first Covid wave began to be tallied in the media, there were different ways of measuring the devastation. One way of looking at the pandemic was to focus on how many people died — more than half a million around the world by the end of June. Another was to try assessing the complicated impacts of the various measures taken to combat the virus. When a lot of the functions in society were frozen, people struggled — especially the most vulnerable. For those who preferred the first perspective, there was plenty of data to lean on. Meticulous records of the death toll were being kept in most countries, especially the wealthy ones, and presented in stylish graphs on various sites: the Johns Hopkins University website, Worldometer, Our World in Data. It was a lot harder to measure the consequences of the lockdowns. They appeared here and there as scattered anecdotes and figures. Perhaps the most striking data point came from the US: by the...

April nor'easter drops up to 14 inches of snow, knocks power out for over 240,000 customers in New York and Pennsylvania
A spring nor'easter has already dropped at least a foot of snow on parts of New York and Pennsylvania, leading to power outages and the closure of businesses and schools. More than 240,000 customers were without power in the Northeast Tuesday morning. New York had the most outages at more than 160,000, while Pennsylvania had more than 50,000, according to PowerOutage.us. Piseco, in upstate New York, had seen the most snowfall by Tuesday morning, with 14 inches on the ground. Broome County to the south got just nearly a foot and implemented a travel ban. The heavy, wet snow was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour across upstate New York.

Basic solutions to our economic problems that establishment elites won't allow
I think one of the great misconceptions about economic crisis is that solutions are always dependent on centralized government action. In truth, most financial disasters are actually caused by too much government action and involvement. Central banks like the Federal Reserve are also primary culprits; as I outlined in last week's article their machinations, which are independent of government oversight, fall into the category of deliberate sabotage. The Fed bankrolls corruption through fiat money creation while government officials and corporations utilize that money to wreak havoc on our living standards. Ending the Fed would solve the fiat money problem, but there's still a host of agenda driven politicians and bureaucrats to deal with before our nation can right the ship. One clear way to fix our system would be to first force government to interfere less. As a point of reference, consider the common media narratives surrounding the covid pandemic. Along with the White House the...

The sphere-packing problem: Out of a magic mathematical function, one solution to rule them all
Mathematicians used "magic functions" to prove that two highly symmetric lattices solve a myriad of problems in eight- and 24-dimensional space. Three years ago, Maryna Viazovska, of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, dazzled mathematicians by identifying the densest way to pack equal-sized spheres in eight- and 24-dimensional space (the second of these in collaboration with four co-authors). Now, she and her co-authors have proved something even more remarkable: The configurations that solve the sphere-packing problem in those two dimensions also solve an infinite number of other problems about the best arrangement for points that are trying to avoid each other. The points could be an infinite collection of electrons, for example, repelling each other and trying to settle into the lowest-energy configuration. Or the points could represent the centers of long, twisty polymers in a solution, trying to position themselves so they won't bump into their neighbors....
